@rohandhanota9944 No, its not "always helpful". Of course people are disabled and killed wearing full gear. And you are making an irrational statement saying "full gear would have saved this guy..." A lot of irrational people and comments here. Denial is a very dangerous thing.

@rohandhanota9944 I think that’s known as a Straw man argument. It is flawed logic to think that I am opposed to wearing gear simply because I exposed the VULNERABILITIES of wearing gear.
@MrTechTime
@MrTechTime 19 күн бұрын
@rohandhanota9944 at the end of day on this particular occasion it's debatable if a strong boot would have saved his foot, this injury was more likely a crush injury due to the bike falling on his lower limb/s section , There is however NO argument that good boots (and all safety style clothing for that matter) offer BETTER protection period and should always been worn, if you care about yourself at least - keep on keeping on my guy, best of luck to you.

I was just thinking about how lazy I was getting with wearing my gear. After watching this, I jumped on Revzilla and ordered actual riding boots. A similar event happened a few years ago. I was thinking about ditching the full face for a half or open-faced helmet. I then saw my buddy after he went over the handlebars when a car cut in front of him. He had some aftermarket mirrors that had sharp angles on them. They looked cool but destroyed his face when he went over the bars. Luckily, he didn't lose an eye. I didn't want to experience sitting in the middle of the road holding half my face against my skull while waiting for a medic.

Instead of fearing injury, use this as a motivation to wear all the gear, all the time (ATGATT). I've come off the bike twice at low speed. I didn't sustain any injuries at all apart from my pride. It's thanks to my gear. Replacing my helmet was better than fixing my skull.

Walking is paramount.. you can’t worry about riding if you can’t walk to the bike to begin with. I can’t imagine what you’re going through but having mangled the same foot twice on motorcycles it definitely makes me question how much riding I’ll be doing. Everything can kill you and safety is an illusion but none of us want to end up crippled.. Hell, if after a motorcycle accident you didn’t question whether you would/should ride again (at least as a mental exercise) I’d recommend you for a concussion protocol. I’m just glad you’re alive dude. If there’s anything I can do for you, you know how to reach me. - spaz 👊🏽🍺

We tend to second guess and re-evaluate. I was wishing you'd taken my advice to have a more scenic ride from north of Paducah, crossing the Ohio River at Cave-In-Rock Illinois, and then ride down through Land Between The Lakes in western Kentucky. I thought maybe the lower speed would have made the incident more recoverable or you'd receive less injury with the much lower kinetic energy (energy increases with the square of the velocity). Then I remembered that you like to ride fast on secondary roads so the wreck probably wouldn't be significantly more avoidable or less violent... and emergency response in the middle of nowhere on the scenic route would have been much longer. Maybe I felt a tremor in The Force. I didn't mount the Givi 30 liter roll top dry bags as improvised lightweight panniers yesterday. I was concerned that, even though they're well made bags, I was using them in a manner that was inconsistent with their designed use. I knew better than to mount them using the injection molded nylon D rings. I was planning to use the nylon webbing loops that attach the D rings, but I was concerned the nylon webbing could be cut by the Spectra cord vibrating under load. I was planning to use nylon tubing to reinforce the inside of the straps to make them cut resistant, but was then concerned that the bouncing hanging weight might cause the nylon strap stitching to fail. I was pondering that potential failure as an inherent problem with no engineering solution when I got this terrible news. I'm now scrapping the entire idea. For now, I'll double down on ultralight moto camping and stick with the roll top 66 liter waterproof duffel on the pillion and rear rack. That should be enough for warm weather ultralight moto camping. I'm definitely not interested in jury rigged bags hanging near the rear wheel. I never liked stuff hanging off my backpack, bouncing around and possibly falling off so I arrive at camp without a sleeping bag. Items possibly falling off is simply not an option with a motorcycle. If I decide that I need panniers, I'll spend the $1040 and accept the added 15 pounds of the Reckless 80 panniers or something similar. I've always tried to do dangerous (aka fun) stuff as safely as possible. For the most part, that's worked out fairly well so far. Like whitewater kayaking, flying an experimental homebuilt airplane, and a few other previous passions, motorcycling requires meticulous attention to all details. There is much that can go wrong and it's difficult to avoid all of the possible pitfalls. I've been obsessed with not being able to prevent other people from doing stupid stuff. Almost every ride, some idiot is texting and pulls out in front of me or something similar. I need to ride with as much vigilance and margin of safety for other people's stupidity as possible, but I also need to be extra careful about checking tire pressure, properly securing loads, checking chain slack and condition, tire and brake condition, etc. I've caught myself riding around with my helmet on but the chin strap not secured because I allowed myself to become distracted during the ATGATT ride prep process. When I caught myself riding with a false-sense-of-security unsecured helmet, I made that an uninterruptible process. Unless I'm on fire, I'm going to fasten the helmet strap. Meticulous attention to mundane details can keep us safe. I like simple systems. Complexity is the enemy of safety. I've seen people who pack differently depending on what they're carrying, securing loads with Rok-Straps, etc. I secure the bottom of the rear rack duffel bag so the mounting doesn't loosen when the load shifts and the dry bag deflates. I don't strap loads to the outside. Everything goes in the bag. Keep it simple. After Don's crash, I'm redoubling my load safety precautions. Don has forgotten more about moto camping than I'll ever know, and this happening to him makes me very concerned for what I am probably doing that compromises my safety. In the final analysis, life is risk. Risk management is the key. Some people are happy staying home watching Jeopardy reruns. For those of us venturing into the world to experience life more fully, risk management is the name of the game. Be mindful and deliberate. Establish and practice safe habits. Ride within your limits and try to compensate for the increasing careless stupidity of others. Beyond that, we must accept the risks to reap the rewards.

Almost every time it’s been a senior that pulled out in front of me, and despite my red bike, they didn’t even see me. It that had happened on my current bike, I’d have plowed right into them. The Goldwing though has the added benefit of the DCT. If he got it, he wouldn’t have to struggle with the prosthetics to hold it up. Plus, you’re a pretty big target on a trike. MotoGiant won’t need trike. I don’t believe so. Ive only know him from a few dozen videos but I will bet all Giant needs is a rear brake mod and a new helmet. Giant, keep it pointed into the wind you will be fine soon. Looking forward to your quick recovery.
