3 VS 1 Break-A-Way (Group/Race Ride Breakdown - Team Tactics & Strategy)

SO THERE I WAS....OUT-NUMBERED and OUT-GUNED... Now this was just a weekly group / race ride that I often like to use for cycling training. But I managed to find my self in a breakaway with 3 teammates and they were in it to win it.
The ride goes out, first win there wins. Then a re-group and a race back. I walk you through how I managed to not get totally destroyed and I walk you through my thought process on the tactics in a 3 vs 1 break-a-way situation.
I hope you enjoy this, I added some new graphics to help aid in the telling of this story. Penny for your thoughts?

Dude. DUUUUUUUUUDE. This is the best type of cycling video Ive ever seen on youtube, or anywhere. I was fucking ENGROSSED in what was happening here. I’ve kinda lost my ability to commit the time to serious cycling when I graduated college and started a difficult but incredible job this past June, and I almost forgot how much I loved watching your stuff to learn training tips and race tactics. I'm new to the cycling world and I gotta say this video was extremely interesting to watch. I never realized how much strategy was involved in it all. Makes total sense, but I never really thought about it. Great commentary explaining everything.

Awesome fighting, amazing edit as always, and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Which group ride is this & where? When I got into cycling I never knew there was this much tactics, I thought it was, first guy to the finish wins, what is all the fuzz about different roles etc ;-) But after riding "The Noon ride" for a while here in Palo Alto (Amazing group ride!) I know now, that this is what it´s all about. All this tactics is actually what makes the biking & training even more fun. I am in the same situation as you, in that I am on no team, but to me that kind of makes it even more challenging and fun, to see if we still can give them a fight. Keep the videos coming & good luck with the training Bruh! I so want to join you for the four day Yosemite camp.

incredibly interesting overview. My question is why cant you sit on the 'time trialist' guy's wheel and just stay there like glue no matter what. Don't be moved. If someone starts coming into you just let him hit you essentially (which hopefully they wont but nevertheless...). That way the sprinter guy wouldn't be able to keep opening gaps like that again and again.

Man, considering the configurations, you did very well in both cases ! :-O (that dude blocking you should be DQed :-D, what a lame move ! Next time he should try pushing you out of the road, or throw some pins on your path !?) But do you really have all these thoughts about tactics during the race or do you go by instinct ? With the high efforts and exhaustion, I don't think I would be able to think about anything.
