The Vegan Cyclist hits a fast group ride and uses the go pro to get the cycling footage and uses Garmin Virb for power meter overlays. About 30 cyclists were on this group ride and I had already done two separate workouts with high intensity intervals.
My goal for this large cycling group ride was to recreate a race environment with fatigue in my legs. Got out sprinted at the end but the whole cycling workout was killer.
Is this description sound weird? Max from youtube told me make it this way...

Loved the insight into the mental side, I usually find myself just aimlessly riding on group rides no purpose and probably a reason why my progress has stagnated.

Come to the Netherlands. The whole country is basically flat, the biggest hill is near the German border and its 300 meters high. Most of the country is so flat that its under sea level.

Thanks for the video and discussion. I was on a ride mid-summer with a mix of racers and non-racers ranging up cat-2 (I'm approaching 5) on down and my plan was to sit and see how long I could hang with the lead group. I got into that same situation, I would be on a wheel and then I noticed a gap opening, so I get around and fill the gap only to repeat. I did get on the lead group but I did not last long with them. Often times I get dropped cresting hills as well. I was on another ride and I found myself pulling into a climb and I managed to hold on the first time. I sat for a while and then on my first pull through I found myself at the front again into a climb, that time I was toast. I rode solo and then broke the route off to go home (which was my plan).

Neat video. If you're a sadist, like myself, the best part of fast group rides is to purposefully open gaps (especially when it gets fast) and force others to close them. If no one is able to close the gap, snap off and bridge across as fast as possible so no one can follow. Crosswinds are the best environment for this. Happy riding!

30 dudes is a big ass group ride. The only rides in my club (which is a fairly large club near New York City) that come to that size are beginner rides to teach basic group skills, or shop rides which pull in everybody who ever got a bike or a tune up there, regardless of skills. The only time we get 30 fast guys together is for that same shop's Friday Night race series in the summer.

I live in just north of you in Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter area and see the same thing. I roll up to B+ group rides on my 2004 Specialized Roubaix (yes 2004) I bought used for $550.00 in 2017 when I started seriously riding....everyone else has 5K plus bikes and all the kit. By the end of the ride I'm right up in the front group 80% of the time depending on my energy level- and yes I take my pulls at the front. Yes the bike helps- but you still gotta mash the pedals to make it move.
