Hey gang - just a head's up but these licks are loosely based on what Warren played during this solo, so it's not 100% exact. And there was a typo I noticed with Lick #2. I incorrectly said "two unisons" and while the video was rendering, I created the transcription/tab that goes with this lesson. It wasn't until I watched the entire video today that I noticed this typo - and hey, typos happen - so it should be a minor 2nd (b9) between the high E & B string, mixed with a unison when it dips down to the G string. Also, Lick #3 is shown/written as a basic version of what he was playing during this solo, so while I made a basic variation of what he was doing, it was honestly a little hard to understand what he was playing during that section (accurately), as you could tell he was pumped from the roar of the crowd and that entire section is a little frantic and random. Just a head's up and thanks for watching!

Aside from the 'Eat 'em and Smile' album, DeMartini and Lynch were the two most influential guitarists who inspired my playing as a new guitar player. My mullet followed suit.

Nice lesson Man, Just wanted to give a quick 2 cents.. 1) The footage of the solo is from the "Invasion Of Your Privacy" Tour, I say this because he's using the "Frenchie" Charvel which he didn't use much on the "Dancin'" tour of '86-'87. Also Bobby's kick drum heads have the confetti graphics of his "Invasion" kit. 2) The wide interval lick is one he nabbed off of Robbin Crosby, the other guitarist in Ratt. A lot of Robbin's solos had a variation on that interval lick between the 15th to 19th frets going back to the Mickey Ratt days, When Jake E. was with them. While I don't dislike Warren, He did tend to overshadow Robbin greatly as Crosby was much more a feel and melodic lead guitarist, whereas Warren was super fast and dexterous. Fact is though, Robbin was a much more accomplished songwriter & great guitarist himself who actually played a lot of solos erroneously credited to Warren sometimes. Sadly much like Steve Clark, He was vastly overshadowed, underrated, And largely pushed aside in the Flash and Speed wars.

Tastiest player from the 80's without question. Always loved his very "slinky", in the pocket, almost slightly behind the beat timing sense. A very distinctive style. To my ears at least. I swear to God I wore that first Ratt album out.

LNL, As a shred-head from the 80's myself, Warren was MY idol, and I've never heard these types of licks from him! What a great concept for a channel, the last thing we need is someone else trying to teach us their interpretation of another guitar heroes hits.

Cool stuff. This video was from the 86 Invasion Tour. Filmed on the England leg of the tour. He still had the original Anaconda snakeskin with him. It's a shame there's no better quality footage of this. Keep up the great work.

They just had a magic & inventiveness to their playing that I don’t hear in the instagram virtuosos these days. That last lick actually reminds me more of something Paul Gilbert might play. Super fast patterns that vary slightly from one phrase to the next. Awesome sound.

Just found this. Great video! The second lick with the unison notes I think is the same shape (or pretty close) that Bruce Kulick uses on the "Tears are Falling" solo from Kiss' 1985's Asylum. It's a really cool trippy effect for sure!

The G and F# you mentioned as well. Warren always had some very unique and cool phrasing in his solos. Way Cool Jr, Nobody Rides For Free are 2 examples off the top of my head .

Warren was one of my favorite guitarists from a band I didn't care much for after their first album. To this day, one of my favorite solos is the morning after, and I have no clue how to play it :)

😂 Earlier today, I was thinking about your lessons & wondering if you’ve done anything on Bettencourt & you mentioned him in this video. I have a feeling you’ve probably covered or at least mentioned many of the guitarists I can think of. But, I have a feeling we are about the same age, & we are both guitarists so that might explain it. 😂 Man, I used to do wide stretches not just in solos but in chords. I still do, to some extent. Not as much as I did in the ‘90s, but I still do wide stretches, especially in chords. But, honestly, I didn’t do it to impress people. I did it because when writing songs there were certain notes that I wanted to en corporate, but in order to do it I had to stretch. I literally STRETCHED my fingers, every day, in various positions before & after practicing. I also used a contraption intended for martial arts finger strength called an “Eagle Catcher.” I had to spread my fingers to fit in the loops & then contract them inward toward my palm. That helped out, a lot. In retrospect, I spent every non-working, non-sleeping moment with a guitar in my hands or some type of contraption that I used to help strengthen my hands/fingers. Nowadays, I am a husband & father. I don’t get enough alone time with my “Mistresses” (my instruments). 😂

I still don't get how Warren makes those cool solos on songs so perfectly and with so much attitude. Whenever I try to do the same it just comes off like I am trying too hard or something is missing lmao Thanks for the lesson

David, your awesome brother. You talked about that stretch lick at the end. Did you know that George and Warren used to tease Jake about him having short fingers? Jake, got so pissed he came up with putting his left thumb on the fretboard, I believe it was the fifth fret E and B strings. He used it as an index finger and did this OMG lick with his pinky up around the 12 fret. I will see if I can find it. I haven't seen anyone other than Jake do it. Maybe you can shed some light on this? Mike

Jake E. Lee was originally in Ratt... in fact, I believe he wrote or co-wrote every song on Out of the Cellar except for Round and Round, and two others. Also, George Lynch was going to be in Ozzy Osbourne after Randy died. He was actually fired (in front of Jake) after Jake auditioned for the band.

I’m noticing most of my favorite licks either have a lot of chromatic “half steppin” stuff going on and/or runs with back-to-back same notes on different strings. Pretty impressive how you pull these licks by ear out of crappy quality live footage. The real trick is making these licks work in a song. I mean during a live guitar solo you can play most anything and there’s nothing for it to clash with.

Any chance of figuring out the wide sliding vibrato that DeMartini and Lynch do? I’ve always been blown away when they do it but can’t find an explanation on how or what they’re doing.

I can't learn the riffs, chord sequences ratt/randy rhoads/ ect without tabs. If you ever run short of idea's for lessons on the paid site consider putting the ratt/ ozzy/ randy rhoads lessons in some written form.Very tough for me to see what the fingers are doing especially tricky chord's on other video's.

I heard before that Warren and George were friends and I heard Warren say that George literally stole one of Warrens amps.....theis styles are similar even though I think Warren is much faster,...... the only thing I know about Jake and George is that Jake was there the day Lynch got fired from Ozzy......before he even really got started......
