Here in North Carolina we called the red hot pickles cinnamon pickles. I know they made from the red hot candy but there’s no heat . I love them and years ago I use to make them . We always used the large cucumbers for them . We would cut the seeds out of the ring . Some kinda good eating.

I haven’t ever made pickles because I thought it was a long process. My grandfather made a nine day sweet pickle and they were delicious but he went through a lot of steps to get to the finished pickle. You have enlightened me ! Will be making your recipe. Thanks you so much !

The Mrs Wages bread and butter that I canned was so good and easy. The batch with pickling cucumbers were very crisp, the other batch with slicing cucumbers were softer.

We have very hard water where I live, and I find that it helps a lot to use distilled water in my pickling brine or syrup along with the lime. It's a lot of work, but they are Sooooo good! Nice video--Thank you

Pickling lime is something I haven’t tried, but now I know how to use it. We like crispy pickles best. I’ve tried the ice and water only with mixed results. Thank you for showing me how to use lime as I’m going to try it this year. 🥒 It seems like Grandma used alum in her pickles, but I don’t remember the method.

Can you do a video on other uses for pickling lime? Besides water glassing eggs and crispy pickles. There must be other uses for it from back in the old days.

Cut the "blossom end" off of your cucumber. It contains an enzyme that will make your pickles soft.

I left a jar of pickles in my fridge for a Long time...maybe a year or so. When I remembered them, I took them out & 1/2 of the juice(water/vinaigrette) was frozen. They were the most delicious & Crisp pickles I've Ever had! When I bought a new jar (plastic, not glass like the last) they were soggy. Do I need to let them sit for a year....like the last ones?

Hey Scott here I got a question for you now with Mrs. Wages I always follow the rules but they’re not crisp well now they have Mrs. Wages extra crispy or you can use ball pickle crisp. After you can them how many days do you have to wait before you think the crisp? Please get back to me
@CrazyDazes
@CrazyDazes 3 жыл бұрын
If they are gonna be crisp, they should be when you put them in the jars
@scottjkern
@scottjkern 3 жыл бұрын
@@CrazyDazes no that way off course. Yes there crisp but get soft in the heat. You can sole them in lime for 12-24 first then rinse 3 times. That for sure is crisp!!! But they have new way with Mrs. wages xtra crisp it’s called. You put it in the jar after pickles are in and then the juice
