This 30-minute Weight Loss Walking HIIT for Seniors will burn belly fat, bring down blood sugar, and get you moving 3600 steps. Prepare to get dewy!
This energizing exercise for seniors over 50 with personal trainer April is at an intermediate level. Mom and Mochi sit this one out but opted to do one of our slower paced routines to build up to this one.
HIIT workouts feature alternating periods of higher intensity exercise with lower intensity exercise to elevate and then lower your heart rate. Studies have shown that HIIT exercise burns more calories than steady state routines. Also, you end up burning more calories for 24 hours or so after a workout compared to if you had not exercised at all.
This workout for seniors over 60 features 5 exercises in pyramid rounds of 20 seconds, 40 seconds, 60 seconds, and then back down to 40 seconds and 20 seconds.

I was glad to see Aiko's smiling face at the beginning of this video. I was a little concerned when she wasn't in last week's yoga video and more so when I didn't see her in the thumbnail photo for this new one. I hope she is feeling all right. I don't think I'm quite ready for this workout either, and if I do try it, I'll keep it low impact. I got worn out just watching you go, April, but you did great! 👏Nice surprise to see Mochi during the warmup too. 😺

I have been overdoing since I restarted with exercising, which caused my knees to have some problems, so I adapted some of these exercises to make them easier on my knees while stressing arms and cardio. I know April always says to adapt to suit your needs. When my muscles supporting my knees are stronger, I will adapt back to April’s moves. It’s hard to acknowledge I’m not in as good shape as I was five years ago, but there it is. The good thing is that I can still use April as a workout partner, even if I’m not jumping yet. That makes me happy.

70th year of life coming off of two surgeries which set me back quite a bit. I have viewed and participated in several of your videos establishing my recovery fitness routine. Delighted to find an amazing variety. This video along with my ballet barre assists my squats...I dislike badly needed squats. However, I have always looked forward to barre; I found this video will mix it up to my liking. In addition, pace low impact saves my knees....my goal is to jump rope with grace 2024. Thank you❤

I did it. I made it all the way through! This was at the top of my list after I recovered from my foot surgery. The foot felt fine, but my ankle seems to be weak. I’m going to search for your ankle workout and do that some and then try this again for the last 22nd round. I did the full jack the first time I’ve ever done the full jack with you! It was awesome thank you so much April for all of your help, you have been amazing and have helped me make an amazing recovery. My Doctor is thrilled!

Really enjoyed this one! I've never done a pyramid style HIIT routine before. It was challenging and I'm definitely dewy. I'm not really comfortable with jumping jacks on the floor, but I'm thinking about trying to adapt/modify this routine for my rebounder for some bounce during the jacks and maybe a few other moves.

*_I did it!!!!!_* 😃 The first time I watched this video, I was afraid to try it, but I was determined to do it today as part of the 2024 Intermediate Workout Challenge, so I just modified your moves to keep everything low impact, and I made it through! To my surprise, I actually felt more and more energized as the rounds went on and even thought about adding a couple of hops here and there during the final rounds but decided to stick with what I was doing instead. Maybe next time, though! I did the new 10-minute New Year Walking Workout first too -- so a good 40 minutes of exercise! I checked my steps on my phone (which was in my leggings pocket during both workouts), and it looks like I got in over 1,000 steps on the 10-minute workout and over 3,000 steps on the 30-minute one -- _woo hoo_ !! 🎉🎈🎊 (Sunday, January 7, 2024)

I’ve chose this because it was 30 minutes. I must say it to kick my butt a little bit. I used water bottles throughout the whole thing. And when we were getting to the 50 seconds on the other side of the pyramid I had to just modify it and just squat in place and do the punches because I was just having trouble pivoting properly in the time that was given even if I slowed down so I still got the pivot for the second half thank you so much, ladies

Wow, this was really challenging. Most of the time, I count on your workouts for a gentler routine when I need it, but not this one! (For some reason, I also thought we'd do one exercise 20-40-60-40-20, and then go to the next.) I also would rather not jump, so I only do the sort of half-jacks and calf raises instead of full-on jumping jacks and jumps.

Found your workout videos a couple of weeks ago on facebook. I've been enjoying trying out the beginning videos and since they seemed easy I thought I'd give this one a try. Made it to the end! Had to substitute a different move for the squats because they caused knee pain. Do you have a suggestion for how to strengthen up the knees? The "burn belly fat" is what enticed me to try this video.

Some of us don't want to lose weight (I'm getting thinner as I age). Are these 'fat burning/weight loss' workouts still appropriate for us?

Hi there! Yes, HIIT workouts are excellent to improve cardiovascular and bone health, stamina, balance, and coordination. They are a great complement to strength training to build muscle. As we age, we can get thinner due to the loss of muscle which naturally occurs. HIIT workouts burn lots of calories so it's important to maintain a healthy diet to provide the fuel to complete them along with your daily activities.

@@yes2next Thank you for the detailed answer. The other thing that makes it tricky is there are more foods I can't eat because my digestion is more sensitive. I have worked out regularly since my early 20s and I've been modifying the types of workouts to adapt to my changing limitations. I really appreciate your 30+ minute walking routines especially when I can use my 2 lb. weights.
