Compare two 30+ minute walks in England and in Australia - one to a vineyard in South Australia and the other to a doner kebab shop in London England. Shot in the same moment of time, 10,000 miles apart.
In 1999, Paul and Tom cycled from England via Norway to Istanbul in Turkey. We took along a small video camera (this was waaaay before iPhones) and made a film of the trip. You can see that film here • England to Turkey by b...
20+ years later, we wanted to keep making films together but Paul was living in Australia and Tom in England. So we started making a few films that compared the two places in which we were living, with not too much in the way of rules about what we filmed and what we talked about.
This time round, we decided to be a bit more organised. We each chose a location for the other to walk to, that was 30 minutes away by foot. And we started the walk at the same moment in time - 08.45 for Tom (Walthamstow, London, England), 19.15 for Paul (Port Willunga, South Australia).
So the two videos run mostly in real time, with Paul walking to the Big Easy Radio winery down under, and Tom walking to the Berliner German doner kebab shop. The fact that neither was open just goes to show how careless we were in the planning (or was it a good thing...?)
