Great Britain is smaller than Wyoming but controlled a quarter of the planet's land at their height, largest empire in history. Been wanting a Lee Enfield in 303 for a while just for the history. We all talk about 8mm Mauser, 30.06 and 762x39 but the 303 Brit is the ultimate world historical round.

That .303 is INCREDIBLE. The gun that held the British Empire.

I like the Mosin Nagant, powerful and ammo is cheaper but the 303 is a fine round as well. I know lots of older hunters that use the 303 for deer hunting.

Side by side with paper plates and water jugs would be awesome!

The British 303 is an awesome deer rifle. Seen many deer drop 2 feet straight to the ground.

The 303 is a great hunting rife, I have shot many Red Deer in New Zealand with my number 4 303.

I love my 303 British. It was the second rifle I ever purchased, and I took several deer with it before I bought my next rifle. Nothing I hit went more than a few yards with that thing!

Pair of nice rifles! I have used similar bullet loads with a .303 to make camels fall down, major pest animal here in Australia. Such a shame the woodwork was butchered.

I've owned 3 303 Brits and love everyone of them .I've hunted moose and deer and they are no joke. No tracking required. Great video!

Both these rounds have a history as sniper rounds in the same class as the 30-06 and for good reason. Results are devastating.

Our grandfathers carried the 1903 Springfield rifles in 30 06 in WWI and WWII pretty equivalent rifles to their Mosin and Enfield counterparts. All three of them about 9 lbs rifles with heavy bullets for combat loadouts, cans of C-rations, etc... Pretty impressive," back when men were men." Great video, would love to see a 1903 Springfield if you can get your hands on one.

I’ve hunted with both calibers and I can say they both insta-dropped everything I shot at so I can’t complain.

Got to give props to the 303 Enfield. Wish I could find a MK4 at a semi decent price.

Both of those rifles are awesome! In WWI & II the British soldiers were trained to use those 303's & they could make 1,000 yard kill shots easily. Russia used the Mosin Nagant in WWII as a sniper rifle & it was quite devastating too!

303 I got in 1974 for 30.00 dollars and box shell at general store in Missiouri.and back then I got box of reloads 5.00 a box.

I thought that the Lee Enfield No. Mark III ( 3) packed the most punch,..then again, it depends on the loading of the cartridge you used. Both rifles packed a pretty fair wallop on those blocks. Great stuff to watch, wasn't it?

It's quite possible that more than a few Germans met their maker courtesy of these rifles, and in two wars.

The good old .303 SMLE was the rifle that most of my generation started their deer stalking with here in NZ. They were also issued to government deer cullers, using original iron sights, who were allowed as I recall, three rounds per deer killed and the tail taken as proof. It is a great bush round and accurate in almost all local shooting conditions here. However, time marches on and I, like most of my peers finished up with the full stainless scoped up tool of today's hunter. However, i still have an immaculate original fully wooded number 4 which i still get a kick out of shooting on the range. Great rifles.

During the Great War 1914-18 , we used cut down versions of the SMLE issued to the tunnellers and mining brigades for CQB underground . The British and Commonwealth miners would often encounter German tunnellers intercepting the mines and tunnels underground and this .303 round would be used at very close range to dispatch German tunnelers . I have a deactivated tunnel gun constructed from the previous issue of Long Lee Enfield that first saw action with the Naval Brigades at Antwerp at the start of WW1. The Battle of Antwerp seems to have been almost erased from history by the film industry , but it was the first action in that conflict . The SMLE you own has been sporterised and rebarelled and you may be lucky to have one with a Parker Hale sport barrel fitted which would deliver 1000+ yard accuracy all day long . The SMLE was the best (by far) bolt action rifle issued by any side during WW1 and 2 . By using the thumb and forefinger to rack the the bolt and the index or 'spin on it ' finger to operate the trigger , you can empty a 10 round magazine in no time at all with a little practice . Stuck cases can be removed with the issue penknife as the bolt head does not go deep inside inside the chamber like the Mosin or Mauser which requires a cleaning rod or other means to remove a stuck round or case often injuring the operator .

For sure do a hunt with those guns, open sights, that would be about to be a really fun video!

I think the 7.62x54r did a better job on that clay. I do believe they make FMJ for the 303. Would be cool to see what FMJ would do to modern body armor / clay and maybe even a paper plate test.

I bought the same gun you used in 303 British about 20 years ago. 35 to 75 dollars anywhere. Now they are in the hundreds.

I've got a 1906 mk1 lee enfield in 303 and I love it. It's definitely a powerhouse. If you're getting into these older cartridges, I would love to see you shoot some 35 remington!

Another great video, as an Aussie ex serviceman, and a licensed shooter, I cant have a semi auto, most people cant, I do love my 303's. I do have a few 303's including a couple wildcats in 303-270 and 303-25. Love the action, love the caliber, and 10 round magazine who can ask for more. For their age the do all the tasks put upon them well. haven't had or shot a Mosin, but we need to justify why we NEED, not want a new rifle. Keep up the good work.. Rule 303.

When i lived in South Africa I owned a SME Lee Enfield No 1 Mk 3 full stock with original brass butt plate and cleaning kit inside the butt, small brass trap door opened to store the kit! Loved the 174 grains, excellent penetration on Blesbok, did not waste meat, the 7.7 mm travelling around 2600 FPS, but a beautiful old girl, nice for 50 - 60 yard open sight shots. There were many of these after the Anglo Boer war in South Africa 1899 - 1902. Even used 303 British in SA army up to the late 1960s. Then Belgian FN 7.62 NATO and then in ‘91 I used the Israeli military industries 5.56 x 45. Loved this video Adam

303s used to be super common here in Canada as surplus rifles. They were cheap and plentiful. Now they're hard to find in original condition as most have been sporterized. Many meals put on tables in Canada with a surplus SMLE 303

When shooting expanding rifle rounds, put the clay blocks end to end so it travels to explode more of the clay

I have a Lee Enfield Mk-4....in 303 British...Bought it at K-Mart for $70.00 right out the crate back in the early 1990's...had a devil of a time cleaning that packing grease off of it

Hey Who Tee. I'd have to say the .303. My cousin from the province of Quebec, shot a Moose with it. Canada, being within the realm of Britain and Queen Elizabeth, was able to provide the best game dinner I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, there are many calibers that would have dropped a Moose, but hunting, the story, the meal, the memories.... are what make up my post. I'm sure you, and many other hunters who sit by cabins, campfires and just plain memories would understand. Sometimes it goes beyond ballistic graphs, eh?

Sadly like most .303s the one demonstrated has been "sporterized" robbing it of any collectable value. The SMLE was the rifle that most Kiwis of my generation started their hunting lives with, many with a home made adaption like the one shown and for the lucky few a Monte Carlo stock or a full factory conversion. It's a great bush round for deer and pigs, not being prone to deflection in scrub and as shown plenty of stopping power. The round was developed over many years as the rifle in it's many forms was in use as a military issue for many decades where it proved it's worth. I am lucky to have one of the number 4s that were sold to current and ex servicemen when they ere were finally replaced and it is still one of my favourite rifles to shoot, on the range only now but fun none the less.

I remember when I was younger, my grandfather telling me he could order A 303 from a Sears catalog for $12. Man how times have changed.

Love my 1944 M-44 Mosin Nagant in 7.62x54r the fireballs it shoots are fun, and when people who don't know what it is are shooting with me it's fun to let them have first shot to see the reaction

Love watching these old war relics belch out some bullets. I’m a fan for any of those old guns doesn’t matter what they are. Both of them had a little bit different effect on the clay but I’d have to give it a pretty even score and tie it up. I have seen in mosin with a SoftPoint bullet from about 50 yards drop a 220 pound hog straight down to the ground didn’t run an inch and had plenty of power to spare. Those old war horses are true power houses.

I still use my .303 British as my Deer and Hog gun. Hopefully soon I’ll get the opportunity to hunt a Bull Elk with it, or a Moose. I’ll definitely appreciate if you made a video you hunting deer or a hog with your .303 British.

Those two along with the 8mm. Mauser and our good old 30.06 are considered obsolete,but with the right loads all 4 will shoot with the modern rounds amd take any game in North America. I don't think they will ever obsolete.

I bought a 303 41 years ago. Chamber so shot out that accuracy was non existent. My son bought a Mosin. That booger was a lead chucking machine and very accurate!

As I understand it "splody bits" is a technical term used in official scientific type clay block tests in reference to the flying pieces of exploded clay block. 12 gauge slug rounds are well known as being among the best in creation of a prodigious amount of"splody bits".

Earlier I checked out your video on the 303 from a few months ago and alot of people were commenting on how sacrilegious it was that your rifle was "sporterized" ...I mean if your a era correct collector than whatever but I personally love the way yours looks,if I ever have a opertunity at a 303 I want one like you got. I like it!!

I kinda think that the reason more people dig the .303 is for the same reason I do. The rifle. It's definitely cooler than the mosin with its 10 round capacity mag.

I've got a Mosin and I am happy with it. If I ever need to take out a deer in the next zip code it'll do the job just fine. Great video!

The 303 British ain’t no joke. I had one and had it sighted in with 173gr. Sierra BTHP Matchking bullets. I never killed a Deer with it, I traded it to a guy in Arkansas for a spot on his Deer lease. His grandson killed some Deer with it, and that load WAS POISEN on Deer.

Took my grandpa's 303 out huntin when I was 14, after I shot a deer i realized I could've just clubed it over the head and saved some meat, she was a heavy girl 😁

I love my smle no1 mk3, I have a no4 mk1 as well. Both are great guns. I never bought a 91/30 Mosin. Could have bought them by the boat load back in the day but I was too busy buying up SKS's.

And the .303 with 215 bullet was and is a very good big game cartridge, especially in a nifty singleshot or a double rifle.

My .303 is from 1918. Also, have a 1955 Chinese 7.62x54. Both do some damage to whatever gets hit.

If you wanted to do some other WWII military weapons testing with the clay blocks how about some of these: US 1911 vs. German 9MM Luger vs. the Japanese pistol??? or the M-1 Garand vs. the German M-98 8mm Mauser vs. the Japanese battle rifle and the 30 M-1 Carbine??? Now that would be a long video but so AWESOME!!!
