A fine weather sub zero winter hill walk and summit camp on Ben Vrackie in Perthshire, Scotland with Ray Smith of RS Outdoors channel. So cold it was best described in retrospect as 'type 2 fun' and a glimpse of the Aurora was a bonus too.

Beautiful, though chilly weather. Great photography, as always. When I camp in winter weather, I bring a Klean Kanteen 40 oz. (US) stainless bottle, which I warm by the fire (where allowed). It then goes into an old, open cell foam, 35mm telephoto camera lens case and directly into my sleeping bag with my electronics and my Sawyer Squeeze water filter. In the morning the water is still quite warm, and the breakfast water is ready in very little time. I imagine that such a bottle could be heated directly on a pressurized gas stove. Thanks for another trip to the wild hills.

Two outstanding guys, but two outstanding scenes, the view 2.49 on the way up. Then at 9.00 you guys sharing a fine dram in a brilliant frosty tent. Going home to drink whisky!

It was great to meet you on your way up the Ben and thoroughly enjoyed the video. Despite the cold it looks like you had a great night up there - pleased you got to see the Northern Lights. Some good shots from your new flying toy.

I do like a dram to finish the night off. after your leaky bottle thing, I am looking for a small dry bag to use for this purpose. Thanks for the heads up ;)

Wow, that was a cold one Andrew. I am liking the look of the North Face Assault. Are you still enjoying it? Looks nice and cosy inside. Also great that you got to see the Northern Lights. Still not something I've witnessed. Don't get much chance down this way. Great video mate.

Thanks ! Yes liking the TNF , it does most trips so far well so it's a keeper for the moment. I'm keen to get it in some deep snow for another night and video 🥶

I thought the filter was ruined if it got frozen? Damages the fibres apparently 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes that was the first time I got to use it for additional footage. Struggled a wee bit in low light but thanks for saying it looked ok. A

That looked a cracker Andrew. What a stunning morning you got for it. Wondered when we'd see the 2 tent maniacs out together 😂😂 😉 Aye carrying a winter pack is tough going eh ? Do you change into something to sleep in on your camps or just right in the bag with everything on ?

Hi Stevie, I just used a merino top and fleece tights, ( my base layer basically ) :-)
