there was an artical in one of my old mopar muscle issues back in the 90's . there was a mopar expert who liked building Horse power engines especially when trying to use mostly stock parts! they used a 318 bored 30 over , 360 cast heads with 2.02 valves, speed pro pistons , stock rods ect including crank. then he used a dodge cast iron 4 barrel with Carter carb 625 cfm , stock electronic distributor and a comp cam and a set of basic headmen long tube headers ! that engine cranked out 375 HP with 388 ft. lbs torque . I bet I get people on here saying this isnt possible but the artical dyno numbers dont lie! hope your engine makes that or really close 🙏😎🤘

Who cares if Tony has any thoughts on it at this point. It was a cool thing to do and I want to see what it does. I have a factory 318 in my 69 Dart and I was always curious what it does with the minor bolt on things and stock everything else. This would be what mine could do if I started tearing into it more. I'm looking forward to what it does and I'm sure Nick really cares to see what the nightmare he was handed does now that it's right.

First: Chassis dyno! Chassis dyno! Chassis dyno! I found three local to you! In his last video, Nick got 320 HP from a stock but worn 70 440 Magnum. He usually gets about what the factory rates the engine for stock but rebuilt engines. Except for the few engines that the factory intentionally rated less, like 340's and 426 Hemis. He gets a bit more for the engines he builds that have better than stock cams (which is nearly all of them). So I was expecting he would get 230 hp with your 318, the factory rating for your engine. That is the Gross HP rating for a 71 Satellite 318. The last year the rating was Gross, not Net. So, add a bit more HP for Tony's cylinder head porting, take away a few for the intake manifold modifications. I don't understand the specs on the cam. Overlap?? I grew up on the Mopar Bible. Lift and duration were all that counted. So I'll guess you have a bit more of each. I did not hear that you changed the compression. So I'd have to say there is no way you are getting 300 Hp on Nick's dyno. I keep asking why you don't go to a local shop and use a chassis dyno. I found three in your area. Ok, the HP numbers aren't very thrilling. Example: My college had dyno runs for members of the Automotive Sports club. My 72 440 Road Runner got 167 Rear Wheel Horsepower when it was 5 years old but in almost new condition. The highest of any car entered.The stock 400 Pontiacs and a 400 Magnum Plymouth got 130-135 horsepower the same day. After it was over, a built 12 1/2 to compression 350 with a .500-.600 inch solid lift cam got higher than me with 225 HP. At the wheel. I'm still bummed out about that 43 years later. Now, Nick is a super guy and makes great video. And I loved when you had the engine there before. But I think you could make something work and make good video with a close by tuner with a chassis dyno. Oh, people used to run around with stickers on their cars that said "Dyno Tuned" if they went to the famed tuners back around 1970. I'm sure that meant Chassis Dyno. Oh, why is the 904 junk? Does it need a rebuild? In stock condition it is plenty strong for a small block engine in a mid size car. And it can be built up stronger yet. And it uses less hp so it is a tenth faster than a 727 in the quarter mile. So said the Mopar Bible anyway.
@auteurfiddler8706
@auteurfiddler8706 3 жыл бұрын
@Curtis Fleabag Yes, dynos can give different numbers depending on what shop you go to. They can calibrate them but the shops have an incentive to be "generous" with their HP measurements and corrections to flatter the customer. Especially if the dyno is owned by the engine builder. The one at my college had no incentive to flatter, so the low numbers. But I think it was probably consistent week to week. So the chassis dyno is fine for getting fuel and ignition optimized. Why won't he go there. It's going to take so much time and money to ship the engine to Canada he might as well build, say a, 383 in the mean time and put the 318 in a pickup when it comes back. The 904 had different first gear available for rebuilding. I forget which ratio but this is covered in the Mopar Bible. How much strengthening did your old 904's have? They lasted "only" a season of 12 second runs on slicks? I don't think this basically stock 318 can break even a dying 904 unless all the fluid leaks out at once.

Always interesting what those lil Mopars can do. That joker from engine master's pulled some impressive numbers for his 318 with a home porting job. What kind of plan do you have for the internals of your Hemi.

You said you have a new cam. Did the original get trashed ? Really secure that block to the crate - I've shipped many, many engines via truck and if what is pictured is done, you will have issues.

After 12 minutes of cranking on the dyno because the dyno's ignition box was bad, that cam had some wear marks over the nose of some of the lobes. It was going to wipe out before a proper break-in. The replacement is identical.

@@smokeysghost4759 I’m just reporting that he cranked on that engine for 12 minutes while his dyno had an ignition problem. The cam lobes had a wear pattern developing and it was not going to break in properly after all of that. So, Bryan swapped it, broke it in himself, and all is good now.
