With teams now pushing 100PSI of boost to hit power levels of 3200HP and more from existing setups, we’re excited to see what Bullet Race Engineerings new RB hybrid block can do.
Darren Palumbo is no stranger to Nissan RB26’s, RB30’s or Toyota 2JZ engines with Bullet Race Engineering having produced billet blocks for each many times over the years and using this knowledge the team has gone one step further to try and remove some of the weaknesses holding the RB back, specifically the crankshaft.
Traditionally more torsional twist occurs in an RB crank taking power away from the wheels by comparison to the 2JZ setup due to having a journal diameter that is 7mm smaller. Realising 2JZ main shells would fit into an RB configuration it was just a matter of adjustments to tunnel size, stud location and designing a crank to suit from there which has been done via a Callies Performance Products Ultra Billet range crankshaft using Timken alloy steel.
Along with these changes Bullet and Callies took the chance to make a few other changes including a longer snout with a greater diameter and wall thickness, bigger keyway and smaller big end journals which will take a Honda bearing shell helping to keep costs and parts sourcing for maintenance a little cheaper and easier. The flywheel flange has also increased in size by 10mm and gone from 6 to 8 bolts with the threads matching those used by many small and big block Chev flywheels, again just for easier sourcing of parts.
For now, the power limitation of the RB going forward now rests squarely on the current cylinder head which Bullet is also working on, but even before they are available it will be interesting to see what a difference these changes have made when it comes to getting the maximum amount of power to the ground as possible.

They’re producing 3,200 HP... Yet they’re looking to address the power production “limitation” by designing a billet head... When did we enter the realm where 3,200 HP out of 180 cubic inch ain’t enough ?? My goodness !!!

I'm not sure they sell those, I believe you buy the block and crank then sort the rest out yourself or via a third party. I think the block is around $10,000 USD and the crank around $5,000 USD but could be wrong. You'd need to chat to Bullet Race Engineering and Callies Performance for exact figures and lead times. Certainly not cheap, but also not as expensive as the days of old for the equivalent - Taz.

@hpa101
@hpa101 4 жыл бұрын
The head cylinder sealing technology has come a long way at this level since then though to the point it's often not what is holding things back. In this case the next step is actually to improve head flow via some design changes rather than just gunning for more boost, although I'm sure as part of the circle of development goes that will be back on the table again in the future - Taz.

hendrahendra wow you guys are such low life’s, and it reflects on your comment, I just dig deeper into the cost of a billet block and they are not that expensive. The block ranges from 10 to 13 grand. So a complete motor ranges from high 20s and up, depends on the built. Price reference from Maxworx. I am just not familiar with 2Jz motor cost.
@hpa101
@hpa101 4 жыл бұрын
@H L don't take it too hard, @hendrahendra was just twisting a Fast n Furious movie quote for a laugh ;) I couldn't tell you want it costs to build this, but the block and crank will run you around 15-16k USD alone, and I would imagine much more if you're not US based I believe. Bullet and Callies will have the specific pricing for you though if you're keen to investigate further - Taz.

Nor Dic yes I am suggesting that..... because it's a fact .... there are small block Chevys running high psi that get to those numbers. Try watching Steve Morris engines!!! Major manufacturers don't keep on making pushrods engines for no reason!!! Example... chev LS engines compared to ford coyote overhead cam engines!!! The LS pushrod engine is far superior to the ford!!!! That's a fact!! No one is saying coyote the world..... because if they did the world would be spinning a lot slower!!!

As much as I like the small block Chevy platform. Sorry but 2jz is like the sbc of the inline 6 world. Take a stock 2jzge base block. Take a 2jzgte. Convert the ge to gte. No oil squirters. Saves you money and the base block is easily good to 2k hp. 1jz head. Few other mods and your at a fuckload of power very easily and with lots and lots of stock bits still. Aluminium billet 2j base block even better. Give it some time. Chevy platform has years on 2j. Plus is in way more vehicles. Also while coyote the world doesn't exist. 2jz destroy all does. And why we gotta leave hemis out. And cooooome on. Biiiig Blooocks. Some 702 cubic inch gmc v12. Not that those would be an easy engine swap. It's deffs gonna make fuckloads of power. And a modernized version of those old fire Truck engines would be dope.
