Thanks to @JHHoang1958 for supplying me some of the songs here. I appreciate you for introducing me to these artists and Vietnamese music as a whole
This video has been in the making for a while now, and it took like 2 years for me to actually finish it, and it didn't feel right for me to just stop uploading and not make something I promised to people. I didn't want to put too much music that it reaches an hour though but there were a lot of songs I wanted to add that I wasn't possible to do so, so I chose these to be in the final product. The cover went through several prototypes over those 2 years, and actual production of the video took 4 days to make.. and the Cambodia video only took me 2 days
Anyway, I don't know too much about the origins of the music scene in South Vietnam unfortunately but some of these individuals (like the CBC Band) initially started out as playing music to US soldiers in the country but eventually moved on to greater dreams afterwards. After the fall of Saigon, most of the artists were placed into re-education camps or were able to flee the country in time. Most of the artists who were "re-educated" survived the camps and eventually left Vietnam all together (The Hanoi government was not as cruel as the Khmer Krahom), and continued their career [Mostly] in the United States or places elsewhere. Compared to the Cambodian singers and musicians, a lot of the artists are somewhat still alive. Very few South Vietnamese artists reside in Vietnam today but are still listened to in the country.. just not the ones that are pro-ARVN
