@@kulson9848 ha, well she well and truly shut the door once Zheng looked like getting a sniff, didn't she? Every other match (in fact, almost every other match going back a few months!) she's taken her opponent to the cleaners. I often (especially in the women's game, which is an incredibly open field) think that pre-tournament favourites will struggle, but for some reason this time around, I never had any doubts she'd win it. She's improved a hell of a lot even since her maiden GS win two years ago. That match was without a crowd too, and some argue winning a second title, especially with the added pressure of crowds watching, is even more impressive. I agree. This run will come to an end before long I expect, especially with her least favourite surface coming up, but until then I'm going to carry on enjoying the ride! Well done Iga, great stuff. Keep those Yanks away from the titles! 😉

@@kulson9848 I don't think so. Świątek had tough first set, but second and third one was so much better. She controlled that match. I think Pegula was closer to defeat Iga. But to be honest. 1ga had no rival in tour...

@@kulson9848 it was close because unluckily Iga lost first set in tie break? And the only reason Zheng won is because she overstretched and overpushed herself so that she couldn't keep up later... Geeez.. that's not even remotely close! Iga's game has some tactics which involve some errors due to taking some risks first to be able to learn the opponent's game and use thst against them later. On top of that with the pressure Iga was under she did a great job giving just one set throughout the whole tournament.

I’m sorry to play devil’s advocate here, but they kinda have a point though…winning grand slam is the main goal in tennis and unless this goal is reached you cannot claim you reached the pinnacle of your game! As for the match winning streaks well…one can keep winning mickey mouse tournaments with no competition and win like 100 matches in a row, but if that doesn’t include at least one grand slam tournament that win isn’t truly validated! Iga’s streak is validated by her gs victory now and i couldn’t be any happier for her!

@@Summon256 Iga's wins this year has been in big tournaments, all of her wins except one before RG came in 1000 tournaments (the step under the Slams).

@@RickeGnool Yep, and the slams are usually more meaningful for men, since they play best of 3 sets, not best of 2 like in other ATP tournaments. For women, it is just one match more, since it's 7 rounds vs 5-6 in WTA500/1000.

Exactly. It is for this reason that Woznacki, despite winning 30 tournaments and being number one for several dozen weeks, is considered a player who failed in the most important moments. She only won a GS once. And only those who win the GS multiple times become legends in tennis ...

@@axelltullup2638 I agree for the most part, but when we are saying "multiple" times GS winner, we have to be very specific as to how many times a winner, because it can only mean 2 times or it can mean like 20...LOL In that regard two times champion is not that far from the legacy of a one time champion! Imho to me the bare minimum tennis player has to achieve is winning 5 grand slams (preferably with career grand slam to one's name, but that's not required...just a bonus) in order to be considered a true historic tennis figure or how they call them an ATG (or an all-time tennis great...)...this is very exclusive club of tennis players (both men and women), which consists of only about 20 people or so in the entire open era...now THOSE are legends! Not sure about others! Iga has to join that club at some point if she is to be taken really seriously...here's hoping...she clearly has potential dominate RG for a long time (since she is so young yet), so she can rack up on that no doubts, but it's other grand slams that are my concern! How many Wimbledons will she win? what about any hard court slams USO and AO? Can she win those too multiple times? So many questions in the air...

@@axelltullup2638 btw i'm saying this because there is not much of a difference how Wozniacki is perceived compared to how Muguruza or Kerber are perceived despite them having won multi slams compared to Caro! Even Halep's legacy is quite questionable, though she adimtedly earned her two slams hard way and is more respecatble compared to everyone else mentioned! Also there are players like Kuznetsova and chinese Li Na, who ain't much of giant legends too...the only true 2 slam winners who has the status of a legend that i know of are Amelie Mauresmo and Mary Pierce, as for the 3 times champs there are Capriati and Davenport off course, 4 times legend is Clijsters (Osaka has yet to build on that legacy i don't think she has earned the right yet to be compared to the great Clijsters...) everyone else, who i didn't named and who won under 5 grand slams aren't legends! (none of those multi slam winners from the last decade are...)

@@Summon256 for me the word "multi" means "many many times", not "twice" of cource ... and the status of a legend must be earned with several years of consistency, which brings at least 5-7 titles of the Grand Slam. I don't think Pierce, Mauresmo, Halep are "the Big Thing" of the sport.

@@axelltullup2638 Yeah pretty much! In that case we are on the exact same boat then! It is sad that still to this very day in a more than a decade there is no female player to have won more than 4! Osaka should be able to break that threshold as soon as she finds a way to fix that fragile mental state of hers, i have no doubts that at absolutely worst she can win at least one more grand slam one of those days! But in her case it would have to be either Wimbledon or RG (Wimbledon is way way more likely LOL) instead of yet another USO or AO...she has to prove, that she is not a one-dimensional player of one surface, but is well rounded (at least well rounded enough on two of three active surfaces!), grass courts is her chance to prove it! I have my doubts about clay courts though...doesn't seem like her thing...

Because she's supposedly the darling of the woke generation, the next Serena, blah, blah, blah (as well as being the youngster, the underdog etc etc). Never mind that Iga wore her Ukraine hairbands, and seems a far more likeable girl, it makes no difference, obviously! Iga should get away from writing columns for the Beeb as quickly as possible. If even they can't hide their lack of impartiality with their obvious backing of Gauff over the last couple of weeks, then I imagine the sports psychologist will be advising her to go elsewhere! Yeah, what does she know while there are 3 millions refugees in her country out of this majority in the city she lives in? What does she know while probably everyone in her social circle is trying to help refugees, providing accommodation and jobs for Ukrainians, delivering food, helping to evacuate people and animals from the war zone or volunteering at railway stations?
