35s Without Lift Jeep (Gladiator Sport EcoDiesel)

How's it going everyone! If you're like me then you've searched a million times for 35s without lift Jeep Gladiator to see if you do indeed have to shell out to get those big tires put on your rig. For the Rubicons the answer is obviously no but when it comes to the sport models the answer gets a little cloudy. I decided to do some research of my own and take these 315/70/r17 tires (35x12.5x17) and stick them on the stock suspension of my JT Sport EcoDiesel. During the first test fit i found that without any additions you will indeed run into rubbing issues at full turn. However, i dug deeper and in the video you will find the cheapest solution to throwing 35s straight onto your Jeep JL or JT Sport! So happy to hear that man! Enjoy the new ride, they are sweet vehicles!! I will be putting out a video next week with the new rims I just got that are a -12 offset and I was able to get rid of the wheel spacers so look out for that one coming soon.

It would all depend on the offset of the wheels you’re planning on running! Any idea on what offset you’d run? I think -12 would be safe but definitely check with some professionals before ordering 👍🏼

Did you lose lack of power with the 35s ?

The diesel does really well with the 35s. You can tell a difference from stock but it still has plenty of torque to move them and once the turbo gets going it moves pretty quick still!

Thank you! The wheels are MB TKO that I got off Facebook marketplace so I’m not 100% sure what the offset is. They are 17s though and 9” wide I believe. I am posting a video Thursday with the new tires on them I’m running toyo open country mts 35x12.5r17. Running a 2” wheel spacer ad well

So 35’s can’t be put on a stock gladiator ecodiesel overland without the spacers? How’s the road noise and the mpg? Any big changes?

So when I tried it the first time I had rubbing on turning without the spacers at the extremes. The spacers cleared up those issues for me but getting a proper offset tire would work much better and be safer than wheel spacers which is what I have now. MPG went down a good bit and I get around 20 now instead of 30. as for road noise that all depends on which tire you get but they are noisy trucks anyways so I wouldnt complain.

Are they 2" spacers safe to use? I'm having a difficult time finding someone willing to install the spacers with the 35" tires I bought. Thank you.

They are, just make sure you use loctite blue to keep them on there. I self installed mine and never had any issues! They arent recommended but they will get the job done. Obviously the best idea is to get wheels with the proper offset!

What fuel mileage are you getting with the 35's vs stock?

Working on that video right now with the 20K mile update but currently get around 20-21 highway with the 35s and 18-19 city. I think having the wheel spacers also hurts a lot cause the tires stick out so far. im running mud terrains now too Toyo Open Country M/T

It would depend on which rims. 35s would fit if your rims have enough negative offset.

It all depends on the wheel offset! It would have for mine but now I’m running no spacers and proper offset and they fit great

How is it performing off-road?

It’s been great so far! I haven’t lifted it enough for serious trails but the torque on that diesel makes climbing super easy and fun. It’s a pretty long wheel base so I have high centered it but the winch pulled it out no problem and it has pretty good stock skid plate coverage. Overall very happy with what it’s been able to tackle given only having a leveling kit!

Spacers make me nervous, plus local Costco and discount tires won't install tires with Spacers

Me too man haha when you’re doing a budget build you gotta take some risks! I feel confident enough though and discount tire did my tires no problem with them on. If you install them right there shouldn’t be any issues 👍🏼

Do you feel that you are missing out with the sport vs a rubicon? I've been really considering a gladiator eco diesel. The rubicon is so much damn money lol. I've been playing with the idea of getting a sport eco diesel and just dumping money into it little by little. My buddies told me to get the rubicon but when am I really going to ever need to disconnect my sway bars. I live In Central FL. Our trails really don't have any rocks so I should be fine. Plus the diesels come with the dana 44s right? I really only plan on 37s with a mild lift.

To be honest I really dont feel like im missing out with the Sport vs the Rubicon. Would I do the Rubicon if I had the money? Sure. But for what you get the Sport does everything I need it to do. Ill eventually get around to adding lockers to the axels but the 44s from and back have no issues up to a 38" tire and the gearing for the diesel doesnt need to be changed because of all that torque that it produces. I think its pretty fun to get a more basic model and make the modification you want as you go. As for the sway bars theres plenty of cheap quick disconnect kits that ill never even consider adding electronic disconnect ones. Seems like the Sport would be the right move for you!

Just get the “willys” package, it has everything a Rubicon does besides the lockers and sway bar disconnect, you can alway disconnect it manually and i promise you will never need the lockers. I have completed “black diamond” trails which are considered the hardest in my bone stock Willys

The Willys is a good option but I would argue lockers are very important. Black diamond trails definitely arent the hardest and lockers become necessary in a lot of scenarios. Not saying you cant succeed without them but I will be getting a rear air locker in the next year or so as im installing an ARB onboard air compressor next week. To me its more fun to build it up but you're right they are super capable stock!

Isn't a limited slip differential installed in the Sports models? (on the rear axle)

I have a Willys, no lift and running 35's on 17's... No spacers. No rubbing. Will be adding Mopar 2" lift though just to get better clearance while out on the trails, but you don't need any spacers to get "clearance of the fenders"... tested and proven. there are also other youtube videos to prove this.

It also depends on the Wheels and Tires that are put on the vehicle (offset, tire width, etc). Mine did not fit at all without rubbing but that was due to the offset and width of the tire i put on. The Willys also comes with different class shocks and springs so it sits slightly higher than a sport. What tires and wheels were you running so people can know what fits without rubbing?
