Subbed AND liked, this was a tremendous outlining you did of this cw, now I'm torn between a mob8 and this!! 3S talks loud - but the 'not very durable' observation could be a potential deal-ripper-upper.... But I like to research new investments to the fullest.. but again, wonderful review! 💯

Thanks Paul, appreciate that! I also researched both excessively and concluded that the Pavo Pico is the better smooth flying filming platform and the Mobula 8 is the better ripper... Note the Mobula 8 has bigger props, can probably handle bigger batteries, but has no soft mounting for the camera. As far as durability, I was referring to the Pavo Pico frame; the black one it ships with is brittle and most break it, but replacement frames are like $3.50, so if you go Pico, pick up an extra clear or light blue frame. I've since replaced mine with the light blue and its great! Basically if you want smooth O3 footage, get the Pavo Pico, if you want to rip, get the Mobula 8 🤘

Nice video with full of information! Thanks a lot! I love the tiny Pico, so i have two Picos now: One factory original from the second batch with 2S LiPo and the better one with 3S. BUT: I think what you have suggested is just the half way done, so I decided to build a complete new pico with the new 20A controller, 3S 450mAh LiPo, 1103-8000kV motors and a clear whoop duct (because it is more sturdy). One problem had to be solved: "Better" motors have a 4-hole mounting pattern, so you need a custom frame. At present it seems that there are only two suppliers which have the modified frames in carbon (!) for sale. One in India and one in Germany. PS: Of course you go over the weight mark of 100gr. My 3S version is 126gr. now.
@colibrifpv

That custom build sounds awesome, I really like the idea of the 8000kv motors on 3s. Mine weighed 104g even with stock battery, but that includes external crossfire + Flyoo ND filter. Have you see the new Pavo Pico 20? Seems pretty close to what you just built up, i.e., the perfect 3s setup! 😁

This is literally the best video out there on the pavo pico v2 and how to avoid jello! I'm currently flying it in the winter winds (not fun) and still jello-free! I followed your instructions exactly. I do have one problem though, as per one of your comments I got the GNB 3s 380mah and they don't behave properly. I capped the motors at 70 or 73% and I can confirm it automatically switches to 3S mode. but when I fly outdoors with these batteries it asks me to land immediately after take off, I consume it to "land now". when I place them on the charger after that the charge is usually 3.92! Are you sure you did not forget something else in your setup for 3S? Unfortunately, I don't have another 3S type to try. Indoors I can fly them around 1.5 minutes.
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 8 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watch and thanks for your comment! Do you have the Pavo Pivo "batch 2" or the Pavo 20? It sounds like those batteries may be bad because there is always voltage sag, meaning the voltage sags under load, or when you are flying, and then it comes back up when not under load, i.e., after you land, but what you are experiencing is too much to be normal, and reminds me of how batteries behave when they're super old. Did you buy them from Amazon by chance? If so, return them assuming you are within the window, and grab something else, you might try some 450mah 3s since you had bad luck with those. I'm using 450 3s and I get nice long flights, they're just a tad heavy...

@colibrifpv I have the pavo pico batch 2, I bought it after watching your video. The quad is behaving perfectly in 2S mode across a variety of sizes (gnb 450/530/660) im getting 4mins with the 660. I agree that the two gnb 380mah 3s are not working properly. I bought them new with the quad, I don't think they are a good recommendation the moment. I'll try 450 3s and let you know. Thanks!

Great review. I think I'll grab a V2 and keep my V1 build as a backup. The problem I have had on occasion is not so much the video just stopping, but the OSD telemetry freezing. Then if you don't notice in time, you do indeed get below the needed voltage and lose video. I did add a standalone 5g vifly beeper to mine for outdoor flying because of the expensive camera system on such a tiny quad.
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience Kurtz, I was wondering about that... Yeah, I wouldn't fly too far or over water on the Pavo Pico, you DO NOT want to lose that DJI O3! The Pavo 20 also looks like a pretty promising option, same as the V2 but with slightly larger props, so should fly a bit longer.
@kurtzFPV
@kurtzFPV 8 ай бұрын
@@colibrifpv That's another reason to grab the V2, enough uarts to install a tiny m10 gps if you decide to fly over water. As for the Pavo 20, I was looking at it until I saw on a few videos that it has the props in view. I also asked myself why I am buying the Pico in the first place, which is for cinematic indoor flight and very close proximity to people. For that purpose, at least for me, smaller is better and under powered is actually a plus. I just built a Speedybee B35 which is far superior for outdoor cinematic and will easily carry a gopro 11 mini. The only other 03 quad I have is a 3" that I converted from a Crux35 which weighs 145g dry with a gps and beeper. Still looking for a similar 3" frame with the stacked mount but with no props in view. Until I find it, I have to zoom to keep props out on that quad. I'm happy with Vistas on any quad that is big enough to carry a gopro. I watched a few more of your videos and subscribed. You do a great job with reviews and comparisons.

Something you might want to mention to folks if you do any more vids on the v2 is how vulnerable to damage the PCB is. Mine broke after a very light crash on the carpet on like the second battery. At first I lost the USB connection and after a few more plugins, the main power. That little tab supporting the USB and main power cable is thin and the heavy cable is attached to the very end of it. Any stress on the cable and there will be problems. If I had it to do again, I'd very securely zip tie the battery cable before the tab to minimize stress. As for me, it is too late and I'm in for another $70 and the replacement aio is damn sure not this one.

This is a great video thanks, I was getting very frustrated with the extremely limited flight time of the Pico. On the standard 2S 450 Lipos, I only get around 120 seconds of flight time and the battery is literally dead. The batteries did come from China so not sure if they are lemons? I suspect as I was also running them line of site with no way of looking at cell voltage I have killed the lipo's now.
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! If you are only getting 2 min of flight time and killing your lipos there is definitely something wrong with those batteries. Try some BetaFPV 450's or some Tattoo 450's like these ones... amzn.to/3SOCDde. Do you have goggles yet? You should really invest in some digital goggles to get the full benefit of the Pavo Pico and the DJI Integra's have been on sale lately for $350 (I paid much more for mine) amzn.to/3ImtO5m Let me know how it goes!

@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 9 ай бұрын
Hi Anthony, thanks a lot for that! If you are new to FPV there is a lot of new information at first but it all starts to make sense after a while. There are different radio protocols you can use and you have to match the same protocol on your tx (radio) and your rx (receiver, in this case built into drone). Your Tango 2 remote uses crossfire, and you can't use that unless you have the Pavo Pico with the crossfire receiver installed, or if you add one. All of these have ELRS built in, but in order to use it, you need an ELRS capable radio, or you need to add an ELRS module to your radio. That leaves the DJI controller.... YES, you can totally bind your DJI controller to the DJI Air Unit, and that's what you should probably do sine you already have the radio, but if you are going to be in this hobby long-term I recommend getting an ELRS radio. They are not too expensive and offer a better, more reliable connection. There are lots of videos on how to bind your DJI radio to the O3, here's one. Good luck!!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5ieqZiQp7_UoI0.htmlsi=21n1t5LegehubO3k

Hey, thanks for watching! Yes, the Pavo Pico would be a great drone to stat with. If you are new, you will need Radio, Goggles, then Drone. You might as well start with digital versus analog - the investment will be a little steep but worth it in the end. I recommend that you start by buying the ELRS RadioMaster Boxer radio [amzn.to/3RPt2E1] Then you can use the radio with a simulator like Liftoff to learn to fly with the radio. After many hour in the sim, consider the DJI Integra Goggles [amzn.to/3LSlEUz]. It is arguably the best system on the market right now. After that you could pick up a Pavo Pico + A DJI Air Unit. I know, it's a lot 😆

@colibrifpv 8 ай бұрын
Hey, absolutely! It depends a bit on your budget, the best way to get your feet wet would be the Aquila kit from BetaFPV because it's beginner friendly and you can get the whole setup for $250 [ bit.ly/AQ16 ]. That one purchase gets you everything you need, but as you grow in FPV you will outgrow and replace that gear.... If you are 100% sure you are going to be in FPV for the long run, you might invest in more serious gear, which will last you many years and many drones (sometimes the drone is the cheap part). My recommendation right now would be a set of DJI Integra Goggles (~$500) A Radio Master Boxer radio, Pavo 20, charger, and batteries. That setup will set you back $800+, but it will last you much longer. Let me know how it goes, and if you need any specific recommendations for batteries, chargers, drones, etc. Good luck and welcome to FPV!!!

All the modes are setup and I did a few LOS test hops to make sure it was flying right. Odd thing is my O3 air unit does not appear to be powering on when I plug in the Lipo. No lights on the air unit. I verified the connector was seated on both ends and the pin out looks correct based on the drawings. I activated it fine using USB plug and I can see the unit and FW version in the DJI software. It's like the FC 9v is not working or the cable has some bad pins.... Any ideas?
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 8 ай бұрын
THanks for watching Mike! That's too bad to hear that your AU is not powering up. It sounds like it has to be the cable/plug because if the AU is not powering up, it's not getting power. I would remove the cable and examine it closely, those things are finicky and there is a chance one of the pins is not seated correctly. If cable looks good, it's the plug, and you are going to have to solder onto the FC. The exact same thing happened to my with a Foxeer FC.... DJI plug never worked but I soldered directly to FC and it worked fine. How are you at soldering? If you solder well, there are pads available you can use. If you are not comfortable soldering, contact BetaFPV support, they should send you out a new one.

Hi Rinaldo, thanks for watching! The goggles you have are analog, and the Pavo Pico is only available in digital, so they won't work. BetaFPV makes a drone that is the same size and very similar to the Pavo Pico in digital called the Meteor 75 Pro which is what I would recommend bit.ly/M75pro. Then, when you're ready, you can upgrade to a set of digital goggles! They are much more expensive but the image is much, much better : )

@colibrifpv

HI there, all these FPV drones have what's called angle mode, which keeps the drone level, but that is not the same as position hold on a DJI drone, it will still drift, especially with any wind. Flying FPV is a skill that needs to be learned, i.e., you should start on a simulator to prevent expensive crashes, but it's super fun once you master the basics!!!

Hey there, yes, you do want to get into Betaflight to set things up. The learning curve is pretty steep when you first get into FPV, so don't get discouraged if it takes a good long while to get your first quad set up, because it will be way easier second time around 😊 You will want to get familiar with Joshua Bardwell, he has some excellent beginner-focuses tutorials on his channel. 73% is just my preference after playing around with it a little bit, but feel free to set it higher or lower according to your preferences. For what it's worth, even though 67% would be equivalent 2s KV, it felt underpowered for me, likely due to the extra weight I was carrying with those larger batteries, 70% felt like equivalent KV (the point where the extra weight was offset by the extra KV) and 73% felt like it had just a tad more pep while still being efficient for long flight times. I've also run 75% and hardly noticed it difference : )

hi, what is flight time with a 3s battery? with 67%-75% motor output limit. can you elaborate ''the quad will fly worse' with a 3s battery?
@colibrifpv
@colibrifpv 7 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! Sure thing - flight time on a 450mah 3s is about 4.5 minutes, which is heavily dependent on your flying style and the condition (age) of your batteries. What I mean by flying "worse" is that the Pico was deigned to be ultra lightweight at around 100g... as you add weight in the form of larger, heavier batteries, those motors will struggle and the quad is not as maneuverable or nimble in the air. It's hard to put into words, but a lighter quad will typically fly better than a heavier one...

Cause the video believer or not is better on 3S. And the other thing, too, is most of the wires that come in connector kits. You really need to double ona if you're gonna use 1200 mW. Same thing with the receiver. I don't know why I think it's the telemetry output but it needs juice lots of juice. I thought it was the 915 goggles bug, you know, HD 0 walk snow blanken out the transmitted or whatever the video link, but I don't end.
