This scene shows how far Delena have come. Last season Damon would have gone into self destruct mode after this, but he hasnt done that now because somewhere along the line he actually started believing in his love for elena. He's always loved her, but he never really felt like he deserved her...he probably still doesnt, but he's started to get over the pain that others have caused him and trust elena. He's come such a long way

That's why their entire argument is about Damon's actions. Damon already knew Elena had feelings for him when they kissed in 3x10. Something Elena didn't want anyone to know about. Shouldn't take a genius to figure out why. She doesn't tell Caroline because of how badly Damon treated her in the beginning. She lies to Jeremy about it because Damon literally snapped his neck. Damon was the one who told Bonnie, and purposefully. He wanted her and Elena to talk about it, what he calls road trip bonding. Bonnie is the reason Elena has the courage to tell Stefan. Not only that Damon kissed her, but that she kissed him back. Damon told the audience exactly what Elena wants. She wants him to make the choice for her. Stefan thinks Elena is in love with Damon. He sends her to Denver to figure out how she feels. When she comes back, he doesn't care at all how she feels. It's all about him and how he feels. Damon told him they got a motel, Stefan didn't care. He always believed he was the better brother, so he thought he could win her back. That's why I don't feel the least bit sorry for him when he finds out Elena and Damon are together in season four. Which he blames on the sire bond because his ego can't handle Elena choosing Damon over him.

It shouldn't be based on his past actions.

This is more than a scene for me. It's one of my favorite episodes of the series because of what it means for Elena's character. Damon is pushing her just as Alaric is pushing Stefan. She becomes a vampire because it's about her heart of darkness. That's why she's painting the room at midnight and painting it darker, then the white paint spills on the floor. The light is dying out... and they fit her death to the soundtracks in this episode. Elena will die because Damon won't make it easier for her by lashing out. Instead, she'll come to understand why it's easy for him to lash out lol. She essentially gets her answers about Damon when she becomes a vampire and finds out just how impulsive she can be. "If you want the answers from my darkest side, you're gonna have to tap into yours." Only then is she able to own her love for Damon. She becomes a vampire for the sake of being with him, and gets a much needed reality check with his humanity as her own emotions become magnified. The best way to understand someone is to walk in their shoes. So she does.

I remember how Damon was in the books-and the electric intense chemistry between Elena and Damon was so startling that it hurt.

To me it's obvious elena is more logical than emotional. She has feelings for damon of course, it's damon she wants, but she needs safe and reliable. That's why she's torn between damon and stefan. If her and damon could be smooth without bumps in the road she'd be happier than she was with stefan i think, because her feelings for damon are more intense, but until then, she's going to be torn between her wants and needs, which is why she always runs back to stefan, yet her eye wanders to damon.

Damon knows she's attracted to him. That's why he climbs into bed with her. Because he catches her watching him. He doesn't know she's in love with him, and she won't admit she is. Her character is written in denial about everything. Admitting it makes it real. Kinda like when Jeremy is trying to tell Damon that Bonnie is dead, and Damon tells him not to say it, don't you dare. Because Jeremy said it, Damon is forced to tell Elena that Bonnie is dead. Same concept. If Elena admitted she's in love with Damon, she'd be forced to let go of Stefan, and she's afraid of losing his friendship.

I actually liked this scene. It needed to happen. They needed to talk about it, because there was too much up in the air with their current situation. Yes they had a hot make out and they both gave in to their temptations, but this scene shows them brought back to earth and very realistically dealing with the predicament. We can't just have them kiss and be magically together.

Well, since he "sabotages" things with Elena, every time things don't work out the way he wants them to work, by saying "what it there were no bumps" he actually says:"what if i wouldn't lash out, nor sabotage things anymore? what if things wouldn't be against us anymore, or if they still were I would try no to get angry anymore? Would we be together in that case, since that seems to be the only impediment for you to be with me"

Eventough she says "i dont know" I think we all know that she knows,. I mean just look at her when she was in the motel with him in the bed, the way she was breathing, her chest was like.. crazy breathing! haha. And the kiss, do I need to say more? No.. :D

She is scared to admit her love Damon because of how much she loves him and how vulnerable that makes her. Both brothers love her and always will. Stefan is the safe choice because she knows he won't hurt her. Damon isn't afraid to hurt her feelings or challenge her. IMO Damon is the one. The greatest love comes with the most vulnerability. She feels safe with Stefan and vulnerable with Damon.

I agree with you guys, I'm so glad he is making it harder for her. Hello, he is a guy, he loves her unconditionally, he is going to screw up from time to time. It's what makes us love him. He reacts like a man who has been hurt over and over again and is trying to put up a wall to prevent anyone from hurting him any further. They are starting to make Elena seem more like Katherine, with the way she plays with his head. But on the bright side she didn't say "No" this time. :)

I'm actually really glad she said that, Elena saying ILY to Damon is a finale thing ;) .. because that moment would be HUGE and I'm like 95% sure it will happen in 3x22 .. and I also love what Damon told her .. he said "this time I won't make it so easy for you" meaning he won't mess up again so her choice can be easy, he'll try to be better to make this a difficult decision and to have her choose him .. Elena loved her and her family more than her ex. Stefan and elena was together now they aren't. Damon supported her more than stefan. When she becams a vampire he supported and liked her that way. Stefan wanted that cure as fast as possible. Elena had her humanity switch off and he believed she can go thru that and turn it on soon. Stefan tried but then gave up and Damon still had hope for her. This is why Nina and Ian had best chemistry in Vampire Diaries because they're love was believable, epic, amazing, crazy, adventurous and they had that hall more than Stefan and Elena. Elena made him a better man. Nobody truly loved damon. Katherine played him like he was some kind of toy. Others he kissed were stressed they did not get the man. He was in a dark place and has no one. Elena came and changed that for Damon. Nobody can not get in there way not even Stefan.

It was all butterflies in my stomach not until Elena chose Stefan in the end of season 3. Still can't move on lol! Whenever she and Damon have moments together I would tell myself "yes, gurl! I know you want Damon!!! We all do"

Yeah, I did notice that. In the promo he says it more innocently and puppy dog like. They do that a lot in the promos vs the scenes edited for the show. This wasn't the only scene from the promo that was different. "Stefan thinks that I have feelings for you." Elena, girl you literally just kissed him five seconds ago so obviously you do have feelings. Stefan doesn't THINK that you have feelings for him, he KNOWS you do. Damon is pretty much saying either make up your mind or stop playing with his feelings.
