Uncover the true power of op-amps with me in this video! Forget the generic definitions you've heard - let's dive deep into the practical applications that really matter.
Ever wondered where to place an op-amp in your circuit? I've got the answers!
Many tutorials out there focus on clichéd phrases like "inverting amplifier" or "differential amplifier." In contrast, I'm bringing you 4 real-world applications of op-amps, along with examples and insights.
In this video, you will see how up-amps make us able to build digital weighing scales, how they help us to precisely measure tiny currents, how op-amps help us to estimate temperature, and how op-amps make us able to accurately transfer data over long, long distances up to several miles. This one is my favorite.
No need to fear math - I'm skipping the complex calculations and zooming in on the practical side. From talking about the concept behind op-amps to exploring issues and problems, we're covering it all.
Stay with me on this journey through the essential details about op-amps and ICs. Ready for a blend of theory and hands-on knowledge? Join me as we demystify op-amps and explore the magic of op-amps together!
Thanks to PCBWay.com for sponsoring this video
You will get answers to many questions about op-amps.
What is an op-amp?
How does an op-amp work?
What are the basic op-amp configurations?
What is the ideal op-amp?
What is the gain of an op-amp?
How do I choose an op-amp for my application?
Why feedback is used in op-amp?
How much current can an op-amp supply?
what is virtual grouns concept?
and much more questions.

One objection to your last application. The idea sounds great. But the resistance of the ADC input is in mega ohms like a voltmeter. The rsistance of a mile of wires could be in 100s of ohms which is neglectable to the ADC's. The noise on the lines however will not let you measure the current accurately. These days the data transmission lines have become differential despite the short application distances. One of the great applicantion of opamps is in differential transmission which i believe you were getting to next in the future.

general-purpose operational amplifiers (op-amps) can be used as comparators in certain applications. While op-amps are primarily designed for amplification and signal conditioning, they can also be used as comparators in certain cases where the speed and accuracy requirements are not critical. Op-amps have high gain and are designed to operate in a linear mode, where the output voltage is proportional to the input voltage. However, they can be used as comparators by configuring them in an open-loop configuration, where the feedback loop is not used. In this configuration, the op-amp operates in a saturated mode, where the output voltage swings to its maximum positive or negative value based on the input voltage comparison. Using an op-amp as a comparator has some limitations compared to dedicated comparator ICs. Op-amps may have slower response times and higher offset voltages, which can affect the accuracy and speed of the comparison. Additionally, op-amps may not have hysteresis, which is a feature commonly found in dedicated comparators to prevent oscillation when the input voltages are close. Therefore, while op-amps can be used as comparators in certain applications, it is generally recommended to use dedicated comparator ICs for precise and high-speed voltage comparisons.

The problem with the differential amplifier used at 44:22 to amplify the load cell is that a gain of 10,000 is very ambitious using an ordinary opamp. The input offset voltage of an LM741 can be as much as 5mV, which if you multiply it by 10,000 will certainly drive the opamp to one of the rails. In addition, its open loop gain can be as small as 50,000 leading to very little feedback for linearising the output. Finally, the circuit you built uses a single supply rail of 5V but the differential amp really requires a dual supply to function properly without creating a virtual ground. More modern opamps can improve on that considerably, but you really should be noting that very specialised opamps are needed to successfully work with such large gains.

I had to watch the video a few times but im starting to understand better now, have some more questions like that 1k divider network for the shunt example, is that because youre trying to cut the supply voltage to the op amp in half as well? You mention the source voltage for the op amp maybe to high , i assume this was the solution. Anyway thanks again for the useful examples and i like seeing the powersupply you made in use all the time. I made a simliar one with a buck converter and amp meter but wouuld like to add a current contorll. Apparenly theres an easy mod to that 2amp buck converter (lm something something) everyone uses. I think it uses and op amp to do it, yeah it does. Would be cool if you would upgrade yours and show us that mod works in more detail, the videos ive seen just have dance music, albeit the connections are clear, id like to know whats going on you know? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n92elNGC2LiXYo0.htmlsi=HW4IcL-GYewCpuXZ Thanks again this is my only education in electronics so I appreciate all the information. @@elewizard
