4 Best Microbrand Watches for a Minimalist's EDC | $300 to $650

In my previous • My Ideal Minimalist Ev... I highlighted two microbrands. During and after making that video, I kept wondering what kind of a watch I would pick if I could only have ONE watch. So, today's video is to scratch that itch. An ideal everyday GADA (or Go Anywhere, Do Anything) watch should have buy-it-for-life durability, while being versatile and understated enough to wear on all sorts of occasions. IMO, a field or dive watch is ideal for such a timepiece.
The concept of affordability in the world of watches tends to be a little warped. Pieces from esteemed brands costing $1000 or $2000 can often be classed as being "affordable". But no matter how you look at it, spending more than a couple of hundred dollars on a watch can objectively be considered a luxury. So while the watches in this video are relatively "affordable" and what I feel is in the sweet spot of $300-$700, it has to be acknowledged that they're not cheap or inexpensive.

You make a great point: they will last a lifetime and not go out of style, and (possibly) cheaper than a smartwatch.

Hmmm… watches as a minimalist are a tricky subject imo. At least they are for me. I often had moments where I longed for a great expensive watch, but I luckily never purchased one. I settled for a Seiko SARB033 a while ago, since it is/was quite cheap but extremely versatile and classic. Also, Casio is amazing for their price.

Can't go wrong with Seiko and Casio 😉 Thankfully, I've never had the desire for expensive watches. But you're right, definitely a tricky topic for minimalists.

I've been following this channel for years, and now seeing content on watches just warms my heart. Great picks, and I absolutely agree on giving microbrands our support. Especially in the world of watches where brand prestige often supercedes logic... we forget that many of the luxury brands started off like these guys - not to flex, but to fulfill a purpose, and to last long doing so. I have a smartwatch currently for when in at work or school when I can’t access my phone, but I also inherited a watch from my grandfather many years ago and I replaced the strap to fit my wrist and I still wear it along with my smart watch. It’s not practical for a normal person, but for me it’s perfect

@@ThoughtworthyCo that’s exactly why I wear both. One is practical, one is sentimental that can never be replaced, but if I ever get tired of a smartwatch, I’ll always have my grandfather’s watch

I have a Citizen NB1050 with white dial, but my friends keep saying that 38mm is too small on my wrist. Now I need new friends

That's fair 👍 Some of the models do have date variants available. Personally, I almost never use the date function and it becomes one extra thing to have to set correctly and keep up-to-date, so I always go for no-dates :)
