i've seen so many vidz about shooting fundamentals but, this is the best one explains the eye dominance segment, i know i'm a right eye dominant but didn't know how to help ppl figuring out which is their eye dominant until now, thanks for the info

Good discussion. I opted to switch shooting from right to left. It takes practice but it works.

I am right handed, left eye dominant. Shooting coach did some working with me. Its been working. Yes eye dominance is a real thing

Stellar explanation. I know I'm right dominant, but this helped answer many concerns I've had about whether or not I'm truly pointing the same with both eyes open vs. only the right eye open.

First, thank you for addressing this. In my opinion, eye dominance is a huge problem that is underestimated. My eyes are like the second student. I acquire the target with both eyes, and then wink at the last second. About three years ago I tried both eyes and my scores dropped. I stuck with it for a year. It was a brutal and embarrassing year. Finally, I gave up and started winking an eye again and my scores went right back up to where they were. Yesterday I tried practicing with both eyes, and I was surprised to shoot just about the same as blocking the off eye. But I still don’t trust it. I’ll try practicing this way since we are not shooting tournaments right now during to the Covid 19 shut down. Again, thanks again for addressing this issue. I wish I could shoot with both eyes!

I think you may have solved a long standing mystery for me. I shoot right-handed, but I'm severely left eye dominant. I never noticed it until I got my new auto loader shotgun, and I miss more often than not. It is extremely frustrating. I administered this test to myself using my cell phone camera and a little scotch tape on my glasses fixed it. Can't wait to take this out to the field tomorrow and see if it reflects in my shooting.

That was as complete an explanation and demonstration as I have seen.

New shooter, some have told me to start training with my off hand, but some argue that's taking a lot of dexterity away from my trigger finger. Some say to get a red dot or hologram sight (not sport shooting). So now I've got lots of things to try I guess.

Wonderful, I shoot left-handed but I think I'm right eye dominance. I think I look out at the target with both eyes open but I see the bead with my left eye.

So if I shoot with my right hand I put a dot over my left eye correct? Since I’m right handed and left eye dominant

I’m ambidextrous and ambiocular. I shoot from either shoulder. I just subtly squint to shift eye dominance.

Ive been shooting since i was 12 years and now im 25 till today i found out that the left eye is my dominant eye and all years i shot with the right... thank you for explaining it and definitely ill try next time

Brad, I'm right handed and shoot from right shoulder. When I point a shotgun, sometimes I got feeling as if my left eye takes over. Usually, when I shoot a pistol ( I know it is different), I close my left eye and hit rite in a spot. How does it work in my case. Most of times I use my right eye. I'm a bit confused.

Doesn't gun fit and mount play a big role in this scenario?

I have the same problem and use a opaque dot on my glasses but some people have asked me if I’ve tried shooting left handed. Is this something you would recommend. I’ve been shooting right handed all my life.

No such thing In essence. Dominance changes with direction. Taking into account that nearly 80% of the world are generally speaking right eye stronger, that's assuming the remaining 20% are shooting. Eye dominant issues seldom exist in shooting. It's down to fit, mount and instructor

This works, However after 20 years clay shooting, I'm just gonna learn to shoot left Hooker. That is the ultimate fix for eye dominance. It's a lot to re learn it's better.
