Love fishing Keitechs on Lake Erie...one of the most effective swim baits I've used...they do catch just about everything (Walleye, Bass, Drum, you name it). I avoid rod-jerk hook sets whenever using jigs in most cases. When I feel the fish on, I crank the reel a bit faster at first to set the hook, then keep the line tight afterward. I've rarely lost a fish using this method on a jig/swimbait combo.

A nice trick with the steady retrieve (spinning reel only) is to stick your pointer finger out so the line hits it every time the bail comes around. That adds a nice bit of subtle action to the swimbait. Tight lines 🎣🤙🏾

Hey dude great video. I fish this exact bait an awful lot here in the UK, mainly for Perch Pike and Zander, and I use your 2nd technique always. And this produces so many fish! So just like bass, the Perch Pike and Zander will all hit this Lure on the drop it really gets them going especially with the vibration the ribbed profile gives off!

Great vid!!! I witnessed a huge smallmouth follow an injured dying gizzard shad about 4” long all the way down from the surface to within 4” of the bottom, then she slurped it up. Scuba can be a very educational way to learn bass’ habits! I live on Dale Hollow, and usually have about 15’ or more visibility above 30’. I do believe bass use the bottom like the ropes in a boxing ring, to help catch their prey. Especially when they are chasing shad schools. I use a TX rigged fluke with a small, maybe BB size split shot and let it go all the way to the bottom, then let it sit dead still for about 30 seconds before reeling back. Killer on Ky and Barkley in late summer/ September!

I fish paddle tails on a Texas rig to keep it weedless 4/0 ewg hook with the hook down to keep the weight on the belly if I’m fishing ponds or the lake depending on depth I’ll throw a bullet weight on but usually I’ll throw it weightless in the river I’ll throw a pinned bullet weight on because of the current that’s about it works great I’ll throw flukes and stuff on the same Texas rig

Been really liking the smaller ones on spinning. For baitcasting mu go to is a 4.8 on a 1/8oz VMC drop dead keel hook. Put a drop of superglue on the sling screw and it will last forever. Frankly though I’ve been getting away from the keitechs cause they’re just so damn fragile. I was a devotee for a long time….shunning ALL the knockoffs. But…I’ve pretty much switched to the Berkeley power swimmer. Seem to catch almost as many fish as the Keitechs and are waaaaaay more durable.

People might think I am crazy but my favorite swim jig head is a football head, well when there is no grass! The football head gives it a good wobble to the bait and works great with the swim bait, I notched this while I was dragging a football jig on the bottom and while reeling the jig in for another cast I was watching the way it was coming in and it had a great wobble, so my brother and I was throwing swim baits and he was using swing jig head and I was using the football and I out fish him every time we do this and even swapped heads and he will catch more than me! It’s awesome everyone needs to try it but stay away from grass it will hang up pretty much all the time

It looks like you make your own jigheads with Do-it molds, I do the same thing myself with the molds but with worm nose or ball head screw lock, I find that the Keitech’s stay on longer and have less ‘pulling my pants down’ moments by the bass I fish until they rip the tail off, then I will have to re-rig. How often do you dip your tails into the dye?

Hey Tyler this is a really good video this time the only thing I wish you wouldn’t put it out. This has been one of my go to Bates the last couple years especially when I go wade fishing in a local creek. You can put on your fourth option when fishing like this is too ragged weightless and turn the bait Is upside down with the tail of the point up and being weightless it will come across the surface like a buzz bait. Really great when chasing smallmouth
