Micheal, this video (and my recent tone testing of the BE-OD and Dirty Shirley), made me a suscriber. You did a great job of showing what these can do. These four pedals can cover a lot of tonal ground. I think what other viewers are saying about dialing back the internal gains on the BE-OD and DS are on the money. With the Boost and The Pearl, hitting those two high gain pedals doubles their value (or quadruples if you have both!). My wife is awesome and is getting me the BE-OD for Christmas. Getting the DS is on me...sorry Xotic AC+. Thank you Dave F!!

I think the starting point when dialing the Dirty Shirley (as well as the Small Box OD and BE-OD Deluxe) should be with the bass and mid at minimum and the treble set half way, as the bass and mid controls are both active boosts. The treble is passive. The presence control is passive as well but it also increases the amount hard LED clipping driven by the final gain stage (in concert with the internal trim control). All the previous gain stages employ soft clipping. While it might seem counterintuitive, you may find the pedal is more touch sensitive with the internal trim pot adjusted higher and the gain control set lower.

@@BigHairyGuitars That may have to deal with the internal gain trim pot. I use it with the internal gain dialed almost all the way back to get a more classic rock kind of crunch. Still mean and aggressive, but less compressed. In a couple of weeks I'm gonna pair it with a Soul Food as a mid boost for lead tones, I'm really curious about the result... The BE-OD isn't that pronounced on the mids, so that should make sense... I've never heard it with an overdrive before it anyway.

I just finished converting a Boss SD-1 into a Golden Pearl. I don’t have a real one with which to compare it but it seems to sound like the demos I’ve heard. It’s wired in the configuration with both toggle switches down. While it isn’t cold and aggressive like an SD-1 it’s still a bit boxy. I’m a TS fan, but you might consider the Mad Professor Little Green Wonder. I think either will fatten up your lead tone a little better.
