We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - amateur Keith, home cook Daniel, and professional chef Penny from the Institute of Culinary Education - to bake us a chocolate cake. After each of them had presented their cocoa creation, we asked food scientist Rose to review their work. Which level takes the cake for you?

For everyone who is complaining about the level 3 cake, she still made a chocolate cake. Cakes are classified and named by the batter they are made with, not the icing or the filling. She used a CHOCOLATE batter, therefore it is a chocolate cake. Her cake is basically a chocolate cake with strawberry filling and peanut butter icing. The instructions were to make a chocolate cake and they did not specify that it had to have a particular icing flavor. All 3 chefs made chocolate cakes.

Yk his cake would have been better if his butter cream was smoother and had he kept one batch of the non choclate frosting for the final top layering, and sprinkled some choclate shreds over the cake with the nice choclate flower touch. It would make the cake more appealing, softer and overall better. But then again he's a level two chef so yeah.

(Not having watched his grilled cheese video but having heard plenty of complaints) blackberries in a grilled cheese sounds amazing actually! You just need to pair it with the right cheese, like a nice mozzarella or brie. Cheddar might be a tragedy, but so many cheeses pair nicely with fruit and sweet things!

If he only had a cake spinner he could have done so much better with the finishing. Having the right tools is very important. Penny had a cake spinner and even used a bench scraper to get clean sides. At least Daniel had an offset spatula.
