The Mid-Torque impact wrench arena just got another contender. The RIDGID R86012 Mid-Torque Impact Wrench is supposed to deliver 650 ft-lbs of loosening torque and 500 ft-lbs of fastening torque. WIth 4 different power modes, 3 of which are progressive power modes, and the 4th mode is the Auto Mode. in the Auto mode, the impact wrench will provide max power to loosen the fastener, but once it senses the fastener is loose, the Ridgid Mi Torque slows down and stops. When tightening in the Auto mode, once the fasteners is snugged, the tool stops and shuts off. You can get the RIDGID R86012 Mid-Torque impact wrench as a bare tool for $199, or you can get the Kit with a 4Ah battery and charger for $269. This includes a 90 day warranty that transfers to an LSA (Lifetime Service Agreement) if you register the tool within 90 days of purchase.

Any half inch sockets will fit this. If you have the friction ring they can be tough to get on. You can give them a little tap after putting them on. Don’t worry, they will still come off.@@doctorno7304

Awesome stuff Tim! If I remember right the M18 2960/2962 Gen 2 Mid you got the same between 600-650 on those XL fasteners & adapter. So pretty close these two tools. The Ridgid with its speed is a fun one to use on wheels/tries for sure.

I wonder how much/if any, the diameter of the nut changes how much power the tool can apply to the nut, like the bigger the diameter and the farther out from the center the socket is making contact with the nut, the tool maybe cannot apply as much torque, compared to a smaller one?

@scottcpan68
@scottcpan68 Жыл бұрын
If you're only going to get one or the other, get this Mid-Torque, definitely not overkill. The Sub-Compact is a great tool for getting into tighter places but at 225 ft-lbs it may struggle on some larger or stubborn lug nuts. I have both of the Sub-Compact impact wrenches, ⅜" and ½" anvils. I find myself using the the ⅜" on most small to medium size fasteners. On larger fasteners I usually just grab the ½" Mid-Torque, so my ½" Sub-Compact rarely gets used.

I like the new mid torque gun; I have a Rigid 1/2 " gun in the truck (3/4 t) to remove lug bolts. It was on sale as an open box kit with 4.0 hr bat, charger & open box for $139, so i bought it. It works fine for the limited usage it gets. But, based upon how the LSG works, I wouldn't say the the LSA is worth anything. You have to mail the tool in, can't carry it in and based upon other people's experience, it seems to take a while to get it repaired. Milwaukee has a repair center about 30 miles away that I drop off the tool and get it repaired in a timely fashion, can't say that about Rigid.

What exactly do you recommend to remove lug nuts? Every impact you test you never recommend it to remove them. You could probably make "Can it remove lug nuts? Yes. But would I recommend it? No." your catchphrase. 🤣
@Shoptoolreviews
@Shoptoolreviews 2 жыл бұрын
That's not exactly what I said. I said that if you're working on light-duty trucks and cars, this would be fine for lug nuts. If you're routinely working on 1-ton trucks and larger, I'd recommend a High Torque impact wrench. The reason I say this, is whenever I should any size tool removing lugnuts or even with the power to do so, our comments are full of people complaining that their tool won't remove their lugnuts. While some tools (impact wrenches and drivers) CAN remove lugnuts, that doesn't mean that they always WILL. So, we are careful what we recommend for tire shops and mechanics that are routinely removing wheels and working on suspension components. Most of these techs know that it takes the power of a High-Torque impact to remove these stubborn fasteners. Thanks for watching.

These new Ridgid tools are ok but they seems like they want to phase the line out. the octane line gave you Milwaukee performance at a good value albeit in a bulky package. now it seems like Milwaukee lite with a proportional price drop. if you are value oriented go Ryobi if you want top tier performance go Milwaukee, i cant think of a reason why you would go with Ridgid for a new system now that Ryobi is nipping at their heels performance wise . Ridgid went from an easy recommendation to a hesitant one.

Every single test of the new ridgid line that has been shown on any KZfaq channel out there has displayed equal to or better than milwaukee performance. I mean...literally NOT 1 SINGLE TEST has displayed favorable performance from milwaukee while SEVERAL have been in Ridgids favor. Lol So not sure what you mean by saying it seems like they want to phase the line out. Not to mention ridgid just announced 22 more upcoming 18v tools. Rrmember that TTI just manufacturers the Ridgid branded tools. What TTI makes in orange is dictated by Emerson Electric, not TTI. So if Emerson sends a design to TTI that outperforms milwaukee in a specific tool, TTI will make it regardless as per contract. Ridgid is outperforming milwaukee when it comes to performance per value undoubtedly.

Ridgid still offers an LSA if the tool is registered within 90 days of purchase. Ryobi only has a 3 year warranty. I think the LSA alone, on top of the fact that Ridgid is a higher quality tool, is more than enough to invest in the platform. My 2 cents for what it’s worth - invest in the tools that you need from Ridgid to get the LSA. For the remaining niche specific tools that Ridgid doesn’t make (e.g. OPE), fill out with Milwaukee, Makita, or DeWalt for the highest quality tool or get Ryobi if you’re looking to save some money.
