In Russian we have a word "помнить" which is to remember. But also we have a few more variations of this verb: запомнить, вспомнить, напомнить. What do they mean? Is there any difference between them? Of course there is, otherwise I wouldn’t make a video about these words! Let’s learn together how to use them correctly!
Time codes:
00:00 - Introduction
00:35 - 1. ПОМНИТЬ
02:24 - 2. ЗАПОМИНАТЬ - ЗАПОМНИТЬ
03:14 - 3. НАПОМИНАТЬ - НАПОМНИТЬ
03:51 - 4. ВСПОМИНАТЬ - ВСПОМНИТЬ
05:22 - Practice

Thank you for this important lesson. These verb variations and families make the Russian language a little harder to learn, but also they make it richer and more suitable for poetic expressions. Your Pushkin example was great. 🌹

Useful video lina, in short you could say; помнить (simply to remember), запомнить (to memorize), напомнить (to remind) and вспонмить (to remember something/someone you forgot about)?

Thanks for this. Great explanation. I think English speakers would probably translate this «за» form as “memorize.” Also, in light of your other video on forming the future, if помнить has no perfective, how do you say “I will remember to turn off the lights. (Complete action)? Thanks.

It’s my pleasure! You can say: я буду помнить, or actually use запомнить as it’s a new information- Я запомню.

Why do you say я запомнил твоё имя? It should be я запомнил твоя имя.

Имя is an exception and it’s neuter, not feminine. So it’s always моё имя, твоё имя :)
