You’re excellent at explaining the various aspects of wine. I like your videos. I haven’t been drinking wine in years. I never developed the sophistication level anywhere near yours. On the other hand, I have been collecting wine for years and have accumulated about 20 bottles. Some vintages are in the ‘90s. I bought almost all of them as gifts for future events. Sadly, few events called for wine. Now, I’m about to embark on a taste experience that is new. Your videos will help me appreciate what I’m drinking. This Christmas I will be opening the first bottle from my collection. Wish me luck that I may enjoy them the way you do. I’m actually excited about this. Thanks

By default swirling it will release more aromas so second nose will always be more intense than first nose. Not sure what you mean by judging how "open" the wine is and relating it to its stage in drinking window. Doesnt matter if its young or old wine, a good quality wine will develop in the glass. While a lower quality wine, regardless of its age, does not develop and open itself up in the glass. Of course, say you have already decanted a young/old good quality wine, and leave the remaining for the next day(s), then it has already opened up and pouring it into your glass won't change much. Also, complexity isn't always make a wine better. Some wines are horizontal (lots of aromas like bordeaux/rhone cdp blend), while some are vertical (depth/layers of aroma) but more focused (like a barolo).

I've always been intimidated by the vocabulary used to described the olfactory sensations of wines. Many times, I've felt wine descriptions to be pretentious and pervasive.. That being said, the video was a big help to categorize and better classify and identify aromatic nuances. This process identified here has helped me to organize, better understand and evaluate the nose, providing a better foundation to improving my ability to evaluation of wine. Thank you.

so so happy to hear this!! The word you used is one I hear all to often intimidating,. It shouldn't be. There is no right and wrong what you sense is what you sense. All that's needed is the knowledge of a few keys. Thanks again for your comment, you made my day :)

My problem is the aromas from those kits, like le nez du vin, are all overly sweet. I never got such sweet scents from any wine.

Aromas? When ever I do this I only smell and sense gases and fumes! Am I just buying shitty wines?
