Oh! This just cleared up the Japanese "mama tomo" (mom friends thing) When the boys were young and in the friendship circles, we are always known as (child's name's mom), never your real name. But back in April as I was walking on the cherry blossom trail I heard "Vicki" and it was the mother of the child who so lovingly took care of my son in the child parent's group back when my son was 1 years old. She also has been maimed by all the medicines, spent 6 months in the hospital (3 of those in the same hospital that is Hell for me) and is now in constant serious pain. Now God sent her to be my friend. God is so good. When we depend on him always, he will take care of the relationships that we need in our lives.

I really love this video. However, I would at the end instead of saying mentor only I would add mentor/therapist however, I understand the point of you saying only mentor because you are a mentor. However as a future licensed therapist I just wanted to add how important a trained mental health professional can add value as well. Blessings to you. ❤

Communities of Practice! Learning, Meaning and Identity by Etienne Wenger. I read that when I was doing my Master's degree here. Bilingual and trilingual and numerous lingual mingling families and communities have so many complex relationships. My thesis was on identity, but now finding my identity in Christ while living in a Buddhist nation and all the stuff God has revealed to me..well the fact is clear: I need Jesus!

I was so frustrated at not having friends at the school I worked at here in Japan, but I realized that it was the Board of Education that actually told the teachers not to be friends with me. It is so complicated. That job is what actually made the angels happy because I finally vowed to serve the Lord with all responsibility. Only God knows where you need to be! Ha ha, thank you Dharious Daniels for all you do, these are the counseling sessions that I have always wanted here in Japan but have never been able to get because that system does not exist in that way here.

Ha ha, in Japan they have an acting company that people play certain roles (like if you are divorced, but your child has an interview for a good school, then an actor will play the child's dad) The culture is so strict with so many rules. There is a book that every household has that has all the social etiquette rules very detailed to exact amount of gift giving depending on status. Saving face white lies are not considered lies, but the appropriate social untruths. It is way to confusing for me. FAscinating culture, but I am thankful for the Jesus,-the word-the truth-and the Holy Spirit. Makes so much more sense to me!

When I first came to Japan on the Japanese government teacher training scholarship to the city next door to where I am now and which I worked for the BOE for the 3 years after my masters, my friend now (who was the international hall director of us students back then in 2006), she talked to the director of the after school program who advocated greatly for me to work there (overcoming stereotypes and fear of the BOE). She was very open minded. I did a pinata for the kids. But in Japan everyone gets "equal", so I was allotted 2 pieces of candy for each student) It was different. I learned a lot. But now, at my house and when I did pinata's for when I taught at my son's pre-school, we were able to change it up according to safety and numbers. My house was the most fun because the other parents were able to contribute in their way and fashion without anyone getting batted in the head due to enthusiasm. It all works out in the end.

Unfortunately I am not a Mother, so I don't coddle and spoil. I tell the truth and they are gone. Women hold on til death. Men are so different than maybe not? Just so hard to have the friend I am. People follow what they think they can get. Peace and Blessings

The Bible tells us to give grace AND truth. If you are yearning to be more effective and want to consider that perhaps everyone else is not the problem (I.e. can’t handle you), ask yourself what’s your ratio of grace to truth. And note that grace is not “coddling.” That’s a misapplication of the concept. Aim for about a grace to truth ratio of 90:10. Worked for Jesus. Hope you find this encouragement a blessing. ~ Joe
