Hello lovelies
Today I will be discussing four vintage cold creams that you can still buy today. I started using Ponds Cold Cream about a year ago and loved how well it worked to remove all of my makeup, and it made my skin so soft afterward. Since I love to research vintage cosmetics that you can still buy today, I decided to look into other vintage cold creams that you can still purchase today. I found out that Noxzema is also a vintage cleansing cream from 1914, and Jergens cleansing cream is also super old dating back before 1950. I tried finding the exact date online for the original Jergens Cleansing Cream but couldn't find an accurate time but read about ladies using it in the 1950s. Ponds is a classic and over a hundred years old, but I also discovered a new vintage brand to me called Merle Norman. The cleansing cream by Merle Norman dates back to 1931 and is one of my new favorite beauty staples because it is this beautiful vintage pink color and has a thick creamy texture made with cocoa butter, so it removes all of my makeup and makes my skin feel so soft afterward. Let me know if you have tried any of these and if you have a favorite cold cream.

My first loose powder was from Merle Norman when I was 12. My dad took me into the store and the consultant was wonderful. She also helped me pick out a beautiful rose colored lipstick and sent me away with a beautiful gift with purchase of facial moisturizer, mascara and cleanser. It was a wonderful experience. I would recommend any parent take their child into Merle Norman when the makeup bug hits. And kudos to my dad, who is sadly no longer with us, for being the kind of man who took his daughter into Merle Norman. ❤

That's an awesome story, my grandma took me to a Merle Norman store when I was 16, the consultant was super nice and matched me with my perfect color of eyeshadows, foundations, powder, blush, lipstick, eye liner.. She did my whole face, she showed me how to blend my eyeshadow correctly, my grandma bought me the foundation which was from what I remember full coverage and made you look flawless, she bought me an eyeshadow palette that was a holiday Edition, the goldspice eyeliner, the lose powder, an eye brush set, and a face brush set the set came with makeup Bags, I'm sure I got a free gift, but can't remember what it was, I still have my eyeshadow palette, eyeliner, and a few of my eye brushes, it was worth the money cause I got a lot and I really enjoyed that make up, I'm 40 now and very lucky to still have my grandma.

I LOVE the Jergens all purpose face cream. I discovered it when I was pregnant and my face was a hormonal mess. It cleared blemishes and also moisturized the dry flakey areas. I massage it in and exfoliate it off with a warm wet washcloth, and then apply a small amount as moisturizer and leave it. My skin has never been so happy. And it is only $4 at Walmart not $8! I feel like it's a best kept secret!

There's a reason why us boomers, our mothers and grandmothers aged pretty well. And products like this are why. Today's woman is overwhelmed by the number of products available and it's so unnecessary. Any of these , especially Noxema and Ponds, are all that's necessary. Merle Norman used to be sold by individuals much as Mary Kay ir Avon. One of my mother's friends used it religiously and always had a fantastic, youthful looking face into her 80's. They used to have a product called Miracol, that what I would call a super mask. I used it from time to time, when my face just felt like it needed something different. You put it on with the provided brush, let it dry, and then rinsed it off. It was really refreshing, but it did burn a little bit. Merle Norman was kind of expensive though and I sometimes couldn't budget for it. One product that I don't see here is Oil of Olay original. It was a great moisturizer, sold in both creme and lotion that you put on at bedtime and took off in the morning. I used the lotion. Ponds can be used over night as well. One of the things I truly miss about the 'old days' is every woman had a signature perfume, lipstick shade and nail color that they seldom deviated from. Boring? Not at all. It defined you. And I can't ever remember scents smelling like a man's after shave as some do now. There were some strong brands, but they weren't overwhelming like they are now. I was 73 on my last birthday, and I find myself missing a lot of things. Getting dressed up to go just about anywhere, especially downtown or the mall. My Aunts and my Mom always wore nice house dresses to grocery shop. I dont think my Aunt owned a pair of slacks till she was in her 60:s. Lol. We're very casual these days. Pajamas at the store? Nothing but denim? Who convinced us that that's all OK?. I'm guilty myself. I do draw the line at wearing pj's, but I wear a lot of jeans. I have a Calvin Klein vintage coat that I wear over them in the winter though. And I've actually bought a few dresses lately. Think I'll regress a bit, and try being 'dressed up' from time to time. I can't wear the 4 inch heels I used to, but a nice pair of ballerina flats or a stack heel will work. And I love wearing dress boots. High, ankle, pretty much any kind.

Fun fact! I grew up all around Mexican/ Hispanic women (because I’m one of them!) and they always referred to the Jergens Face Cream as “Tres Caritas” which literally translates to “Three Faces”. Even if you google the phrase Tres Caritas, the top result will be the Jergens Face Cream! The phrase stuck to its product since that’s basically is unofficial 2nd name in our culture (:

Ponds was my go-to, but I’ve transitioned to a 100% vegetable made cold cream from Lush Cosmetics, called Ultrabland. It’s made with rose and is absolutely amazing and tests clean on toxicity reports. I love cold cream and it’s my primary way to wash my face. Lush is an eco friendly brand and even released a naked cold cream, called Like A Virgin, (which I adore), to minimize waste. Though they are modern products, they are traditional in feel and do not have synthetic ingredients, which is pretty classic to me. Consider trying them out. Love your videos!! 🌹✨✨

@Laura Jane Atelier I worked for Merle Norman about six years and loved it there. Sadly, the store that I worked for closed too, many years after I had left. I also thought you might like to know a little Merle Norman history. The cold cream that you mention in this video was Merle's (this was actually the owner and founder) very first product. She created it in her kitchen cooking up the ingredients on her stove top. Another bit of info that I would like to share is I remember the owner of the store that I worked for told me that once Merle Norman created a product that it would always be available and never be discontinued. It might not be kept in stock and on the shelves but that you could have it specially ordered from the company. Thanks for featuring Merles's original product in your video! Have a nice day! Love, Lily

Noxema makes me think of my mom! I grew up in the 90s, and that was her go-to face wash. The whole bathroom smelled like Noxema every night lol 💙 And the Ponds cold cream, of course, makes me think of my grandma! I just recently started using Ponds, but I also bought a jar of Jergens so I can compare and see which one I like better!

Have tried them all mentioned at some point. My favorite is Albolene, hands down. Company started in the 1800s...Used by Actors to remove industrial strength stage makeup, it EASILY removes heavy makeup in a flash and is super moisturizing. At Walgreens is around $14 (12 oz jar) but I was pleasantly shocked to find the 12oz jar size for only $7.28 with free shipping on a $25.00 Amazon order. The best beauty buy on the cheap I know of. This stuff is EXCELLENT I tell you , and I am particular. 😂

Hello Laura Jane, I went through a spell when my skin was really dry and flaky, and was advised to cleanse with cold cream. I was told to slather it on my face and wipe off with a large wadge of cotton wool soaked in really hot water and squeezed out. It worked. Also to put an old pillow case on pillow, tie up hair and slather Vaseline on face overnight. Super cheap tricks. Ponds is lovely especially for the scent but the Boots (chemist) cold cream was cheaper and came/still comes in bigger jar. X🌹

I used Noxema as a teen in the early 80s. I thought it was very helpful for acne. I also used Ponds then to remove waterproof mascara and makeup, then cleansed with the Noxema. I recently, in my 50s now, started using Ponds again. Thanks to another one of your videos 💜. I love the way it smells and how moisturizing it is. I also love the price. My mother used to say that her Aunt (b. 1890s) used Ponds her whole life and had the loviest skin. I double cleanse with it, then press any excess off with a warm washcloth.

Another very vintage skincare line is Erno Lazlo, which I used in the 70s and 80s. Sadly, when Dr. Lazlo died the line got bought out and they don't use the original formulas. They do/did have very vintage Art Deco packaging. Greta Garbo, Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and other beauties used Lazlo. It's expensive but they do have trial/travel sizes like Clinique (who copied Lazlo's three-step system.)

Merle Norman shops are still around all over Southern California and at least one that I know of on Oahu, HI. My mom took me to the Tustin, CA location in 09 when I was fifteen for my first facial and brow wax. Walked back in as a twenty-two married woman a couple years ago and nothing’s changed. It was really neat to see offerings much simpler than at Sephora or other retailers

I have the jergens cream and I bought it solely because of the smell and the awesome 80s vintage packaging with those rando ladies on it lol. It’s very greasy, so good for dry skin, and the smell is lovely. Only problem is, after some time mine turned a bit and some liquid started to rise to the top and pool. I just stir it around with my finger (hygienic, I know! 😆) and it settles back in. Btw, I love your channel so far. I love all of your videos! I just recently discovered you and and making sure that I don't miss anything. My comment is about the Pond's cold cream and the Jergens cream - I have been using both for many decades but not as face creams as they are a bit too greasy for my facial skin type. However, I use them from my neck down on my entire body after showering and I've yet to find anything that makes my skin look and feel better. And at my local Walmart, the Jergens is priced at $2.86. The Ponds is more expensive. And, I'd like to add that in the 60s Ponds also made a Vanishing Cream which was great for my somewhat oily skin as it gave a nice matte finish.

No, I don't use cold cream and never have, as I've always had oily skin. Even at 67, I have an oily area that I try to skip when applying moisturizer. I don't wear heavy enough makeup to need special remover, except when I wear eye makeup. I use baby oil for that. I still use the Clinique three steps. But you make me want a jar of Pond's just to HAVE it, lol.

I also had really oily skin and something I found helpful was to get an exfoliator and scrub my face in the shower then when I get out I put a cold cream and or a small amount of baby oil my face. I personally have found this very help because with the exfoliator you are kind of stripping the skin of mositure and by putting the cream/oil you hydrate the skin so that way your own face doesn't have to produce excess oil. It may take a week or month depends but hope this helped.

Love Merle Norman products, we had Merle Norman stores throughout San Diego. I never used the cold/cleansing cream but I'm dying to try it. I love their eyeliners and loose powder. CoverGirl as a line of products that has that famous Noxzema smell, it's in their "CoverGirl Clean" line, I always have a compact powder of that cuz I love how fresh it smells, plus it's cheap. and it's definitely vintage it has been around the last at least 50 years. They have liquid makeup loose powders and pressed powders with that scent of Noxzema. From Ponds, I highly recommend their cucumber cleansing cream, and I also love just the straight moisturizing cream from Ponds with the blue lid. I don't even think that is used as a makeup removal this one is just moisturizer. I use it for my combo skin. Another surprise vintage product that I use directly on my face without bad consequences is Nivea creme. You can get it for a dollar in blue tin at Walmart, or buy it online 13.5 oz in a glass jar. I just read that Marilyn Monroe used it directly on her face, also there are two recent articles online that showed marked improvement in women who used it. I alternate between the blue Ponds the Jergens face lotion and Nivea cream for my face. So far so good!
