What is a read-only or write protection pen drive/USB? Actually, write protection can either be virtual or physical. Write protection is called read only. If a USB is enabled with write protection, it can neither write new files nor change the old ones. It would ultimately allow you to only read the data that is stored in the USB.

I have tried all your methods, plus several others from other users and none of them work. It was fine 2 days ago and then yesterday this Write Protection appears? What the hell could've happened? You can make an item. Just click with a right-click and choose New > Dword and than rename this in write Protected. I hope that I explained well.

If any of these not working for you then it's means you have a SanDisk drive, don't waste any more time buy a new one but keep in mind that never b a SanDisk again..

None of these solutions worked for me. What solved my problem was downloading the recovery software from the USB manufacturer's website and using it to restore my flash drive to it's factory default settings.

What if those 4 solution doesn't work, is there another way to remove the write protect from you USB flash drive? I have tired all 4 solutions and none of them worked. Which leads to my follow up question. - Do virus from another computer causes write protect? - Does the recoverit app, remove virus and/or virus from any and all devices, such as storage devices?

welp absolutely nothing worked and the last option there was no option like you had in regedit also the usb drive display itself 2 times first as an DVD drive and a second USB drive which is not accessible i get the message no device connected so im a bit frustrated its a 16 gb verbatin stick from an old work place and i would really like to use it

have a sandisk 120gb drive. step 1. - no lock switch on usb pen drive 2. step 2 - after hitting apply get error msg saying "media is write protected" and wont allow change. 3. diskpart - actions do not work, still says media is write protected, even after pc re-start. 4. regedit - no work either. still cant delete files from drive or re-format it.

my sandisk cruzer glide 16GB suddenly "write protected" cannot format and checkdisk. only can read,not write anymore ,so bad sandisk quality!!! easeUS software also cannot format it!!! H:\>format H: Insert new disk for drive H: and press ENTER when ready... The type of the file system is NTFS. Verifying 14.3 GB Cannot format. This volume is write protected. Format failed.

Hey.. I tried all steps but still it's showing write protected. While I run below command chkdsk /f G: being an elevated user, got the below message: The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives. Request your further help to get my pen drive formatted. I hope you will revert with your suggestion, thank you!

Don't hold your breath. People like this guy only do the 'easy stuff' - they don't want to know when their 'advice' is worthless - as most of them are. Probably better off throwing the usb out, driving over it, burning it, then throwing it off a cliff. Go back and do some research into decent usb drives that aren't write protected pieces of crap, that aren't made in chyna and that will allow you to see and access the 'security' tab under 'properties' so you that can change thngs.
