“I chose to be a tiny bit mad” Wow. He said “I chose to.” He’s incredibly intelligent and has an amazing understanding over his emotional responses. He’s a better communicator than most adults. Great job to the parents.
@doomsdaymonster7

I like this style of parenting very much. "I chose to" (he didn't really choose to - toddlers can't regulate their emotions) but the implied "choice" gives him a sense of autonomy and power to self-soothe. Toddlers often feel powerless but there is a healthy way to instill power - make wise choices. Very clever parenting.
@litebrite8993
@litebrite8993 Жыл бұрын
@@doomsdaymonster7 just because he can't regulate his emotions doesn't mean he 'didn't really choose to'. I know thousands of adults who can't regulate their emotions and you would never think of dismissing their choice. Just because he's a child doesn't mean his emotional intelligence isn't on par, his soul draws from lifetimes of experiences as he speaks and experiences life, just like we all do
@doomsdaymonster7
@doomsdaymonster7 Жыл бұрын
@@litebrite8993 I don't believe in souls. I believe in science of developmental psychology, which can be replicated. Adults who cannot regulate their emotions are typically those with a chemical imbalance, organic pre-frontal cortex issues and amygdala pathologies or trauma. Great example from history is Phineas Gage. Most toddlers cannot regulate their emotions due to underdeveloped brain. There is also not enough desensitization through experience. There are exceptions, just like with kids who have very high IQ, but I'm talking about most - which are the rules. Toddlers cannot regulate their emotions.

I want parenting classes from that mama. I'm a big believer in teaching children how to manage their emotions, but I've never seen it grasped so articulately in a 4 year old! Gives me hope that it won't be a years-long battle until one day when all the pieces fit.
@hollyl5702

My kid was like that too. My best advice is work on yourself first. Only once you understand yourself and learn to deal with your own emotions, you will be able to help them understand and deal with theirs. Then, give grace and respect while holding boundaries. Identify and explain their feelings when something is happening and be there with them through it. People fail at being good parents when they don't understand that the role is that of a mentor and boundary enforcer. Many parents believe they are supposed to be in control of their children when they really need to be in control of themselves. When you love someone you will want to follow them. That's the way you really influence your kid in life - through love. All the best to you.
@FrisbeeGorbeh

The parents are giving that kid the space to explore and express his emotions, on top of modeling how to deal with emotions as well. That's why we see such an expressive, deep-thinking kid. Being a parent is tough and they're doing a great job. Your kid will do wonders in this world

Good parenting right here. She's on his level and speaking to him with respect, and validating his experience. She's also linking it to hers, which celebrates his intelligence and ability to communicate, and invites him to think about it further. Finally, it helps build a strong relationship between them. They're having a genuine exchange about reality. Also, this four year old is more aware of and articulate about his feelings than I am at 36, and that is a direct result of the conditioning I did or didn't get around feelings. I don't completely lay the blame for that at the feet of my parents, but they did play a huge role. There were larger cultural forces at work as there always are influencing their parenting. But it was most definitely toxic when it came to emotions. I am proud of some in my generation of parents that are learning to value feelings as something we need to be literate about and mobilize in our daily lives and teach our children to pause for so as not to inflict the same kinds of abuse we witnessed and endured as children. If we can manage to hold space for that level of complexity and discomfort, we can hope to move forward. Sharing emotions definitely makes us stronger, not weaker. Clearly, it is the more challenging choice.

He wasn't allowed outside as a "consequence," which indicates there are rules and discipline. Speaking to a child with respect and on their level *does not* equal treating them like a "mini adult." I am so impressed. What a wonderful job his parents are doing! There are adults who cannot deal with their emotions as well as this young man.

Big up to his parents!!! This kid has more emotional intelligence than some (if not all) of our leaders. This is heartwarming.

His parents have taught him to process and express his feelings in a mature positive manner. These parents get an A+ in teaching their son excellent communication skills.😊😊

That's a beautiful conversation! Teaching emotional intelligence and to not repress emotions or be scared of them or punished for them. Normalizing that emotions pass through and fluctuate and can feel better from expressing crying. That's healthy! Good job, mama. "That's emotions." "Life is like that." Glad this moment was caught on video and shared.❤ I hope there are many children's books teaching healthy attitude towards emotions.
