I bought a new ‘Velar’ in showroom. Due to Covid I couldn’t drive her. She’s top of the range, it’s my second RR. I absolutely adore it! It does look amazing, though it’s much longer than I realised. I do have the warning sign’s on my mirrors already inclusive on my vehicle. And dark, very dark interior. I love the big 22 inch wheel’s. If I use sport it’s too fast on our roads. So drive is great. After all the very expensive vehicles I’ve had the Velar is the best. Every time I drive it, it feel’s like the first time. Yes they are expensive, if you can’t afford it, it’s best not too purchase one! No vehicle is worth debt or stress, You have to be prepared for everything!

DM I have a Velar largest diesel motor (sorry my husband knew all the details) it 360 dynamic? also has the lift kit. We ordered it as a retirement car sadly my husband past away before delivery I only planned to keep her for 12mths how plans have changed she's mine for life. I have never owned a more beautiful car to ride in or drive and whisper quite. Also she has hill assist amazing on step mountains. The over all running cost fuel under 30 per cent of previous car I was shocked by the amount saved. We paid for the pre paid service and extended warranty. I am always asked what car is it, one followed me home he had seen her and wanted to know what it was my son went out to confront him, he took him for a ride he was blown away by her speed. He came back a few weeks later with his a twin. I never give comments recommending. Oh and the sheer fun when someone is in her for the first time they are blown away by her power. I am so blown away by her my son wanted to always keep her in the family because of the connection as he spent many hours with my husband planning her but know it's because of all the wonderful times she has give she's our's for life. Sorry for calling her she but she's to elegant to be a he

The harder Biden, Newsome and the Left push for everyone to comply and Drive electric cars, the more I go the opposite way. Rented a Velar while in Southern Cal and loved it! Handled and drove like a Sports car, with unmatched comfort and quality. Beautiful car.

Great video, I actually watched some of your older videos while researching whether to buy one and after afew delays because of the chip shortage I'm happy to say I'll be able to pick up my 21MY velar in afew weeks. From the videos I've seen the new Pivi Pro system will definately improve the bugs and the speed in the old system which was probably my only concern. I went for the mild hybrid D220, firenze red, black pack, r-dynamic, pan sun roof, automatic parking, electrically reclining heated rear seats for the kids and the exact same interior as yours 👌🏽👌🏽

Hey Tony - That actually sounds like a real beast you've ordered! Nice! Yeah the Pivi Pro system is pretty crap tbh, and I don't expect they will be able to upgrade me to the Pivi Pro system anytime soon, but the workaround I have is to simply use Apple CarPlay for everything, which I do, and its generally faster and nicer to use - so if you do the same, I wouldn't worry too much about their in-built system. Good luck!!

I own a 2018 velar so I can speak from experience your video is spot on. I haven’t experienced the roof rack flying off and I hope I don’t but it’s good to know that for what they cost new that shouldn’t happen. I have experienced the screen locking up and it is soooo frustrating. I’ve also had problems with the radio locking up where the station currently on is the only station you can use until you turn it off for 5 minutes and the system resets. Thanks for your time to make this video it was interesting and it also let me know that others have the same problems but Range Rover service won’t acknowledge it. They always tell me we never heard of this before. Another quirk I just experienced was the remote start wouldn’t work because it said a window was open but clearly they weren’t. It was a software issue, the dealer had to reset all the limits on the windows, didn’t even know there was such a thing.

I own the velar as well 2021 . The roof rail seems like a fluke to me , I feel like it was pried up before flying off in the wind, maybe a car wash or some person looking to take it . everything else I agree with totally . Another thing is when you get into the car you feel amazing . I am 6”4 300 lbs and feel great after 7 hours of driving , super comfortable . I am an audiophile and the stereo in the car especially if you go with the upgraded one has like zero percent distortion . Everything about this car is a wet dream , the outside still looks sexy as hell and the inside is gorgeous as well. I can afford any of the Range Rover models and I decided on the velar because of its beauty , with the largest engine you have one hell of a ride .

Really appreciate your review. I've always wanted a RR but everyone I've ever mentioned it to says that I should buy two, this way I'll have one to drive while the other is in the shop!😱😳😫 Also, you have a valid point about how long it takes when roadtripping with an electric car. You need to tack on extra time. My clients who have Teslas say it's not an issue. "While you charge you can take a nap or a walk, or grab a bite to eat". But the thought of running out of 'electricity' scares the crap out of me as I live in the middle of the desert!

I have a D240 HSE which I bought in April 2018. It only had 2000 km on the clock and now I am hitting 60. 000km. In that time it has had 2 services covered under the leasing arrangement costing around € 500 and € 700. I have had to fork out €1500 for new tyres. I have been very pleased with the car which replaced an Evoque. It. Is very comfortable with the air suspension and the D240 has more than enough power. I have had no reliability issues to date. All in all , I have been very pleased with car and still think it is the best looking SUV on the market, even after 5 years.

Thanks for posting this. Really nicely made video and very useful for me as considering a used Velar just like this. PS. we have a Tesla Model 3 and regularly drive 1,000 miles to the French Alps. It only takes about an hour longer than it used to take is in an Audi A6 Allroad diesel as we stop every 2-3 hours for a short break anyway and all you do in a Tesla is charge while parked using the toilet and having a coffee. Teslas charge so fast that the extra journey time even over 1,000 miles is not much.
@zerma6

Il French too. Have a model 3 too. And mate if you are used to stop every 2 hours ok. But if not and you are used to do a marseille paris stoping just once for 10 minutes … the Tesla is waisting you about 1.5 hours ! Bothering.

BTW, I had to bring mine to dealer for VVT failed, sw updated.. but all free cause they're under warranty.

Nice video. I drove one as a rental because my HSE was in the shop. You are so right on the cost when these beautiful cars have to be serviced you shell your thousands $$$ on oil change, service, and if you ever experienced a misfire in your engine well even more money $$$$. When had the velar it felt like you were in a cockpit. It was okay but I was use to driving a bigger vehicle. Smaller then I like. I like the HSE because it’s taller and I sits higher. Nice car but thinking about getting a Lincoln Aviator, I’m tired of shelling out all this money on service. Love driving it, but after they serviced my engine for a misfire and I drove it 5miles down the road and it popped back on I drove it right back to the dealership pissed because I just gave them a lot of money to fix my engine and you would have thought I had it fixed by a side of the road shop. My white on white range is beautiful for a 2013 but after owing BMW & Mercedes, I had best service with Mercedes but the GLK was too small, love driving my range but hate when things go wrong $, BMW X5 I had for 10 years. We shall see🤔

Thanks for sharing your experience! I also have a Mercedes A Class which I've had for around 10 years now, and it's still going strong - so its a shame the amount of service and maintenance costs you have to shell out for a range rover. My guess is that because they classify it as an upper-class premium vehicle, they assume everyone buying it can easily afford the $$$$ prices to maintain it, because they essentially won't have any other option, especially after paying so much for the car itself.

I agree this is a great looking car and gives you all the SUV-ness you might need without looking like a Ranulph Fiennes wannabe. All cars have issues and big 3 German marques are no different. As for tech, l hired a Mercedes E400d last year to go to Scotland and thought the Sat nav on the instrument binnacle was great, rather than the middle of the dash. Until l lost it and couldn't get it back. 300 miles later when I took it back to Avis l accidentally found it again. I prefer to get near the destination and then use my phone so cocking about with a touch screen when you're doing 70 isn't necessary.

I like the look of the Vellar but the boot for me is not big enough with the back seats up. Boot space is critical for what I do. It would have been good to know about the fuel consumption and tyre usage and the miles he has done each year. I had an old style Discovery and did 60k miles in it and it was faultless and didnt cost a lot to service. I didnt like its replacement , looks like a jelly mould and top heavy so bought my second Audi Q7, Now 3 1/2years old . One set of tyres . two services costing approx. £350,0 each and running faultlessly. On mine no touch screen . I hate them and think they can be dangerous if you use them on the move. Next car will be a Q8 I think. The Defender looks workmanlike but is frankly too small which is a shame . The boot is narrow compared to the Disco and less roomy.

@@TrendingReviews I know the feeling! I am glad they were able to come to a reasonable resolution with you, interacting with the dealership with things such as these can be a pain. The first time it happened, they ordered and installed free of charge. The second time (yes it happened twice lol), I kept calling and they were always in the process of ordering...Fast forward past all the back and forth, I was told the rack is on back order and they will call me instead when the part arrives. May 2022, will make two years since I was told this and not a word in regards to the rack. I left it alone and decided I will have to purchase myself and get it installed. I have recently seen them online for $185 USD.
@TrendingReviews
@TrendingReviews 2 жыл бұрын
That's crazy it happened twice! Mine was told it was backorder too, but it took 6-8 weeks to finally arrive, and then they had to paint it black before I could get it fitted. I had to keep calling for updates because they never called me when it was actually sitting there ready for me to have fitted - but the cost I was quoted was around $500 for the part and fitting, so it definitely would be cheaper to order yourself and get a local garage to fit it.

@@TrendingReviews Yess and it's so frustrating, the whole thing! That's the exact thing that happened to me the first go-round, they never called and when I called, found out the part came in and was just sitting there at the dealership, they claimed. Yes indeed, based off customer reviews, these are sturdier than the original but I'll see how that goes. Lol I guess it's better than mechanical issues but still very much an inconvenience to get resolved.

Bought a 2021 velar in Feb., traded in for a LT Trailboss truck in 2021 November. Now I am super happy that velar was in the shop 5 times in less than a year what a garbage can, but what really made me walk away was the Velar's roof lining was falling apart... like wtf its not even a year old and the roof lining its coming loose??? never again will I waste my money on a range rover. I bought my wife a 2021 Santa Fe SEL AWD, it has at least 20 more useful features than the velar's and its worth like $20k less and let me put this out there for a few more $ we got her 125k miles bumper to bumper insurance with no year limit, so if it takes you 20 years to put in 125k miles you are covered.... Range rover has become clickbait for rich people, you just buy the name.

Hi Alex - Overall, I would say its been very reliable for me. Had my Velar 2 years now and absolutely nothing has gone wrong and I mean NOTHING. Had two other Range Rovers in the past and apart from a water pump on the oldest one, only the usual wear and tear things needed attention. By comparison my Mercedes E320 had endless electrical faults and kept going into limp mode. I also abandoned my 4 year old Audi A6 having replaced, the CAT, EGR, Turbo and power steering pump in a period of just 6 months. JLR products are as reliable as any other modern car if you look after them. Most people that claim they are unreliable have never actually owned one, they just parrot what they've heard. You'd be amazed at the number of 'fancy' cars I have helped rescue over the years with Range Rovers.

@@TicketyBoo. I don’t think any of the cars in this list are particularly reliable as there’s no mention of Lexus/Toyota etc however all of the data suggest the JLR will breakdown first. I don’t think the people saying that brand is unreliable have to own it to read basic data. Yes you may have one that’s done a million miles with no issues but that’s anecdotal not exactly what the wider data suggests.

@@TicketyBoo. You are correct about people who have never owned one are the ones that criticize them the most. For them it helps ease their FOMO of not buying one because they can't or don't have the courage but recognize how nice they are. I've had 3 Range rovers -- the old Sport, First Edition Velar, and now a Sport SVR for 3 years. Zero problems for all 3, just maintenance. Meanwhile my friends with Volvo's and BMW's have had so many issues, some really bad. Another friends Tesla has been a nightmare with complete shut downs. I have had a P250 HSE R-Dynamic for 2 years now. It’s a head turner!!!. Drives superbly well. The Dynamic drive mode make high way drive awesome. I have used the other drive modes for off-road and the experience good.. I haven’t noticed this issue with infotainment possibly because I have an active data sim in the car and which pull down any new updates for the infotainment and vehicle systems for install. I will defo recommend this for anyone with one of these cars. I have unlimited data as part of my phone plan, so got a sharer sim for £10pcm which I use in the car. Yes it’s an additional cost, but just not much for what you get, you need the systems updated. Reliability, in my 2 years of having a velar, I have only taken it in once for a minor fault which was linked to the solenoid… which was sorted free within a few hours. Every vehicle has problems. I purposely didn’t take out service plan. As I didn’t think it’s cheaper and it gives me the flexibility I need with dealerships. If you want to know, My annual service is £297 inc VAT . That’s not at all expensive compared to what other top brands charge. There is nothing I hate about this car. If u are still stinking of getting one , go for it. The only thing I don’t like is the attention it brings and admirers stopping by to chat about it. Not when I’m in hurry please… lol. Electric cars? I don’t think it’s for me as yet. My husband will be the Guinea pig for our household.. If the experience is good, then yea. I can’t imagine making multiple stops on a trip to charge up a car. And for the blown off roof seal. insist LR pays for it. I will be contacting the head office the minute the dealership asked for any payments. Who cares how expensive it is for them to source a replacement, that’s their problem… it’s manufacturing fault.. manufacturer bears the cost.
@TrendingReviews
@TrendingReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Hi - thank you for sharing your experience with this car! It was very nice to read! Can I ask - that annual service plan you have, was that quoted specifically part of any deal when you purchased the car? I did have a data sim with pretty much unlimited data on it too - but I stopped using it ever since I switched to using CarPlay, because that uses data directly from my phone and had no need for the car data sim card anymore.
@mgbeke

@@TrendingReviews From previous experience I didn’t go with service plan this time. I pay for my service on the day which turns out cheaper. I did make enquiries directly with Land Rover to advise what my service will cost should I pay myself on the day of service. It’s a money saver. Just a warning. My dealership initially charged double what I was advised on the phone when I went to collect my car which I disputed immediately there and interestingly, my bill was halved :). For the 2nd service I asked for a price confirmation during booking via text which sorted any unnecessary price hikes at the dealership.

Have you updated your Vehicle and Infotainment software? My Velar's infotainment screens now boots up within a couple of seconds even on a cold start (having not started the car in weeks) and even the response time is pretty fast.
