The training now a days isn’t all that great and we call it too knotch I can’t imagine all the differentiations in something so broad as the imperial guard it would have to be like grinding paper with a rock lol

In 40K most guardsmen aren't really supposed to be effective soldiers. Most of them are just fodder. Although, by other things I've heard from other pieces of lorez training is left up to the regiment. Which basically means no standard basic training. It's all based on the needs and abilities of the regiment.

Not really. In most of cases the guard regiment come from Planetary Defense Forces who are roughly similar to our soldier (depend of the state of the world's technology). If it's a modern world, it is like recruit Marines, Légion étrangère and all of the elite troops of the world. The galaxy is so vast that it depend a lot though. But for the meme, it's better to think that they just read a book and are sent to hell war zone!

Sorry, a book without intense in person physical training will never work . You need time with your weapons, drilling, learning how to do what the book is trying to show you.
