Jeanne: And, also on copper, as in the old antique copper teapots. On a plate sprinkle a good amount of table salt so that there is a "bed" of salt. Next, roll the lemon on the kitchen counter using pressure to soften it. Cut the lemon in half, and rub the lemon half in the salt bed. Keep rubbing...sooner or later the lemon and salt will begin to wear away the patena and dirt build up. I used this method twice back in the late 1950's and into the early '60's to clean my small collection of all pure copper teapots...one of which is dated 1889, England. It was a very hard chore back then and I'm pretty sure there are products that would ease up for the hands and wrists in today's world. I purchased a small steamer just for cleaning. It works great on kids toys, stuff animalls and pillows too (just don't saturate them and keep at least 6 inches away from cloth surfaces)

Cleaners are lovely to have; however, many things need cleaning that a service will not do without an extra charge or not at all. Cleaning bedding, crevices, mold,...come to mind.

So true! It also seems each generation has a “guru” per se on basic things and them presenting old tried and true methods or products as if they just made some brand new discovery,or have just invented the wheel! If a person’s own generation guru says something is true, then it has to be gospel, right?! Oh well..

I would have preferred to get it totally de-greased, but your point about it being easier to clean later if you leave a thin film of oil on it is good. There is no way to keep it from getting oily, so might as well make the oil clean. 7:37

You are still spraying oil into the drains in the streets. Just dump cheap cat litter over or shredded newspapers it to let it soak up for awhile then sweep it up and place into a seperate trashbag.

I was told the best way was using Suave shampoo.

I do my toilet every couple of days (2men in my house!) I wipe my sinks around after every use, so no water stains there, using bicarbonate (baking soda in US) if they get soap scum on them. This way, as you say, they don’t need a ‘big clean’. Having said that, a lot of the young ones have never been taught to clean in ANY way, so these vids are brilliant for those ones...

@@hallelujah8141 Very true! These videos are certainly helpful! And, also, we all have different standards. What's clean to some may not be clean to others. I dust, vacuum, and mop every week. I was once called lazy because I have an irobot that does all the "swiffering" for me. I have no carpet in my house, so I must swiffer, then I vacuum, and then I mop. The robot has saved me a lot of time. It picks up all the loose hair and dirt that the eye would miss. They thought I just let the robot do everything and I was sitting on my a$$. But...they don't even do half the cleaning I do. When they learned I was dusting my furniture and wiping down mirrors and framed pictures while my robot was swiffering, they gasped. They call that "deep cleaning". I call it weekly cleaning. Deep cleaning to me is when I scrub the grout on my kitchen floor and bathroom floors, which is not something I do weekly. But I was raised to clean properly and regularly. Different standards.

@@lauralauer8442 if they're very dirty, I spray them with 409 and scrub them with an old tooth brush and rinse them well under running water. Dry off immediately and set aside to finish drying. If they're only lightly soiled I just use a damp rag. If necessary dampen the rag with 409 and wipe off with a clean damp rag.

I use Comet with bleach to clean the toilet bowl and have never had an issue. It does a really great job of cleaning without side effects.

Also vinegar and baking soda to get rid of that smell in your towels and sheets. Add it straight to your washer and soak for 30 - 60 min. Then wash as usual

@@mabuhayPinay I usually just throw in a couple of tablespoons of baking soda and about 1/2 cup vinegar right in the drum. If the clothes or towels have any type of odor, I will Put the machine on pre soak about 30 minutes to an hour. If you’re load is pretty big, just add a little more of each. I just keep an old soap scoop in the large bag of baking soda I bought from Walmart.

Yes, it works really well, doesn't it? My mum put me on to this when she bought me my very first microwave and it's the only way I've ever cleaned them because it's so successful.

Honestly, you could just put a wet (but not "soaked") sponge or dishcloth in the microwave for 1 minute and it still does the trick - no lemon or bowl needed and the germs in sponge/cloth get killed, too. To boot, you can wipe out the microwave with that same sponge/cloth. Super simple. I read it in a cleaning book that I was gifted years ago when I was a teen. Wish I still had it, but I have no idea where it is or who it was by.
