I loved going into this show blind. Especially the first episode because I kept telling myself ‘there’s no way it’s going this far,’ only for it to go further! What made the show for me was Utena’s unapologetic sadistic side while still having the upmost respect for magical girls.

Where Gushing works and others don't is that Gushing earns it's lewd by anchoring it into good characters. It is not just there to be there. It is an important part of the characters and plot. It is way better than I ever thought it would be.

Episode 10 was crazy

I like the way the anime worked us up to it slowly, while still being perfectly clear what we were in for. Like in the first episode there was nudity in the transformations, as you said, even though in the bondage scenes they were completely dressed. We just got panty shots. Then in episode 2, Azure gets completely naked, but only in her head, while Sulfur gets a little wax play. It continues this gradual progession until episode 10, and wham, two girls having sex. And it's a shock, but by now you're used to it, and it's totally in keeping with the characters. If anything, another show would drag out the "will they or won't they" and you're glad this show just went with it instead of starting more shipping wars. That Utena is herself going through this slow acceptance and understanding of her degenerate side just shows up that that's what this show is about. Kink shaming a show that is so blatant about mocking kink shaming is pretty self defeating. 😂

I liked it since it was a manga, and for a very different reason than most people. I liked it for its humor and character writing. Utena is a very concrete, well defined character, and so are almost all of the others around. You can see each character playing their role in the story and really influence the course of the plot, which is something I really like. Kiwi is basically a force of chaos, often going too far on things, sometimes needing to be restrained, but also sometimes being able to go to a distance others cannot to accomplish her goals. Korisu is kind of incredible. Her character is based on the stereotype of lonely, creepy doll-like girls. However after she got into the Utena group she stops being lonely or creepy and starts being rather funny a lot of times. She also have the strongest conscience out of the utena group which is quite important for quite a few points in the plot. Matama and Nemo are a bit different, they aren't completely defined by their relationship to utena, but do act as support. their main character relation is with each other. This is also explored further into the story.

I watched the whole season and I can honestly say that I liked it... That being said, going into it you need the right mindset that first of all it's a work of fiction and that you are going to watch something with the Ecchi tag. Even after saying that, I didn't expect this show to have so many borderline H scenes and some that I would say they were hard to deny that they were H, but having some good story alongside that was a great plus. Like you said, if you can't stand Ecchi fan service, then this show is definitely not for you, but if you don't mind it then this show will certainly make you question yourself how much you really like the ecchi. Overall I liked it and I'm already wanting a season 2 😅

I actually freaking love this show then Solo leveling in this winter season 😅, because obviously not for "lewd" things , it's just cought me off guard, it's not like other Typical anime , it is new,it is different, it is unique. My eyes just pop out like G5 Luffy when I see those things (in my imagination) and my thoughts are like :- 1. aaa, 2. Ahhh, 3. Wait wait wait hold up, 4. What the actual fuck i watch , 5. People in the west are more interested in shock culture, and in just few months they will forget entirely about this anime just like it was the case with Redo of Healer anime.

I get where the people who don't like it are coming from. The characters are all 14 which in the states is a big no no and probably is starting to become questionable in Japan too since they raised their consent age to 16. I still like the show though
