Hi all,
This is a video testing the Let's Resin alcohol inks and resin for changes due to 3 weeks exposure to sunlight. I also tested with two different sinker whites, from previous testing, this made a difference, however, I did not notice any difference on this test. I will update once I notice some bigger changes. Please, also, do your own tests and let me know how it goes, different brands and combinations can change the tests, as a community, we can work out the issues to reduce fast fading. I am also working on another test and will update you all soon.

I was disappointed watching other videos which said alcohol inks fade with time. I have been using let's resin inks for a while now, and was inspired after watching a few of your videos. I have made some lovely pieces, was worried they would start to fade. After watching this I am more confident . Thank for sharing, I feel a lot happier now using my inks .

This speaks well for your resin. I am so glad I was able to get it. Since jewelry won't be outside that long it should be fine for a long time. Thank you for your test!!

I love a good experiment😊 How long do you plan on leaving them outside? I found Steve McDonald’s test really surprising, considering it only took a couple of months to fade almost completely. But, I don’t think he mentioned the brand he used, if he did I don’t recall it. Let’s Resin’s alcohol inks are strongly pigmented so, it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes to see any fading. I tried to do a UV test on Unicone resin last year, I liked their resin so I wanted to test it for yellowing. It held up really well for a couple of months but, we often get 50+ mph. winds and my test piece just disappeared😆 along with our outdoor seat cushions.😂 Thanks for all the great info!

The test I saw was 2 weeks and was Jaquard inks, I have some on order so will definitely be testing those alongside the resin used in the 2 week experiment. So much is involved in fading tests.

@@daniel..cooper You’re right he did use Jacquard Piñata inks. I just went to his channel and found the video. June 19th 22 was the one I watched and it was worse than I’d thought. He did a 2 wk. & a 4 wk. reveal. At 4 wks. it’d lost almost all of its color. Wood workers often sell their pieces for 100’s or even thousands of $. Many Artists put a great deal of time and $ into their work. Even hobbyists like me should be aware of a products limitations and avoid having a really disappointing surprise. So, I think it’s great that you both are putting products to the test.

Ink quality and resin quality will all effect fading which Steve McDonald dint do but I find sometimes he can be bias in his ways
@debrajol3585
@debrajol3585 2 жыл бұрын
@@the.resintist totally agree! Love Steve’s ambition and his art. However, he’s limited and does many things his way which aren’t the best way. ~~I’ve seen another channel do 8 or 10 different inks & pigments with a few different resins. Can’t remember who it was but the results were varied. Seems the main ink companies did the worst.. Tim Holts/Ranger and Piñata were the fastest to fade. Some of the cheaper sets on Amazon were much longer lasting. ~~I wish Let’s Resin would sell colors individually. Buying whole boxes to use maybe 10 colors is inconvenient. Happy Arting! 🌹

@@debrajol3585 that's true you run out of one colour but have to buy a box full . I'm testing titanium dioxide white mica powder to make a sinker plus just white 🤞I might pop a video up if I get success so others can save money 🤞😉

Thank you for doing this. I was expecting to see at least a little fading even in three weeks. I suspect the resin makes a big difference. It will be interesting to see the progress with more time.

Interesting experiment. I can't really see a difference either. I really liked seeing the difference between the Pinata and C deeper. I thought the C deeper would be better but I think I actually like the effect the Pinata gives better. The spores are really cool looking to me.

Great video and just confirms my tests cheap inks cheap resin it fades in weeks unlike better quality products. Steve McDonald tests was bias he doesn't like alcohol full stop plus he used a resin I don't rate along with cheap inks .. if he'd tested using different quality products it would of been better and fare 🤷... But that's Steve I don't like isopropanol full stop McDonald LOL

When I saw the “Steve McDonald” test felt like my heart sunk! But I don’t think he mentioned which alcohol inks he was using…I use “Let’s resin” brand for the alcohol and the Opaque, I’ve made so many Dachshund keychains with flowers and gems that I donate to “Dollars for Doxies” and just had another Dachshund rescue ask for some pride flag colors which take more color then the others…and these rescues are in in Cali and Florida, and I was so worried till I saw this video, feel little bit better now…the alcohol ink looks better then the opaque as a top layer…I use the KSRESIN brand for the resin and gonna go read the label to see how much uv protection it has..thanks for this important info..
