I wish more repair videos were like this... intriguing music, no talking, super high-quality video, showing the obvious problem, showing the new part, obvious step by step that no one could mess up. THIS IS HOW ALL REPAIR VIDEOS should be made. Love it.

I'd just like to add a few comments based on my experience carrying out this fix as a complete novice (literally the first time removing and applying solder 😬) Those of you with some solder skillz please bear with, this is aimed at other people like me. 1) I wouldn't recommend attempting this if you're a complete novice like myself! Although I successfully completed the fix it took a long time, and part way through I wished I'd shown this video to a repair shop or someone with some solder experience and asked them to do it. If you're in a position to do this, this is what I'd recommend! 2) You'll need at least a 60w solder iron, 30w won't cut it. Some different end attachments will be needed too. 3) To get hold of the part I contacted focusrite spares via a request form on their website (I'm UK based). They sent the part out for free within days, I assume this is a common issue. I also just want to echo some of the other comments to agree that all KZfaq repair vids should be like this. Super high quality vid, no commentary so accessible to all languages. Thankyou FREDO PACIFIC

Last week I purchased (2) jacks for my 6i6 for 12 and change from full compass. With a microscope I inspected the old jack but noticed no damage however the slightest nudge of the usb would either disable audio and at times crash my pc with a blue screen. For giggles I heated and remelted the existing solder joints and this proved successful. No need to replace the jack for now great video. Hopefully the jacks for the 6i6 are the same ones used in my 2i2 first generation that's sitting in a cable box with a visibly damaged jack. Thanx

It is great when it is just a cracked solder joint and a reflow fixes it. 😎

Hi Fredo! Great video, I can definitely see myself following the step-by-step you did on this vid to fix my Scarlett.. just one quick question tho, I have never soldered anything in my life.. does the size/thickness of the soldering wire matter? Hope you reply, thanks!
@fredopacific9366
@fredopacific9366 4 жыл бұрын
Try to use a small amount so that none of the solder points are touching, too much solder wire can cause a short. Notice how I had to separate some of the solder at 3:00. Also, make sure to use electrical soldering wire.

@@fredopacific9366 appreciate the response, thanks for making it so clear! Quick followup questions if u don't mind.. when you say "use electrical soldering wire", is that the one that's usually named 'lead-based solder' with a mix of 60/40 (tin/lead)?
@theebaddchild7336
@theebaddchild7336 2 жыл бұрын
@@givaririzky2173 Lead-based solder is the best type of solder to use. If you want, try and find a rosin core lead-based solder. The flux is already in the solder so your solder joints will look better.

Have you managed to get it sorted? Generally 'device not recognised' means some kind of damage to ICs upstream of the USB port.

Wow. All I searched was "fix usb b port" and the top videos are all Focusrite Scarlett products.... and what was I looking this up for? To fix my Scarlett Solo. Guess I understand why it was cheap now. Still, lasted many years though.

Since you opened the thing, do you thing it would be possible to fix a scratchy pot (the monitor volume pot) with a spray of Deoxit? I am looking forward to buy a used 2i2 but it has that problem...

Hi... I just start to fix the same problem as you. I also checked the pin connection and not conected to each other, but why my focusrite get heat and smoke from the USB connector?
@fredopacific9366
@fredopacific9366 4 жыл бұрын
If there is heat and smoke coming from the USB port, there is likely an issue with power supply. I would consider purchasing a new device from Focusrite just to be safe.

How in gods name is one supposed to remove the inner part out from the casing? Been hoking around and trying to separate mine for the last hour, with a sharp knife and screw driver, and it just won’t separate.

At 1:18 I point to two clips on the inside of the casing. It's challenging because when you try to unclip the second one, The first one almost wants to clip back in. It took me a while as well but I had to pry the clips while pulling the board out of the casing.

The female connector on this thing is horrible. Even if the center piece is still in, the 4 contacts don't stick up far enough to make good contact with the male connector. I had to use a small tool to pry my connectors up away from the plastic to actually make contact.

@@fredopacific9366 sorry i'm new at soldering electronics, what do you call "no clean wick"? is that a specific tool to remove the previous solder? i can't translate it to french
@tom4794
@tom4794 3 жыл бұрын
@@segisopierce It's called a desoldering braid or solder wick. The "no clean" part probably refers to a particular flux (being included in the desoldering braid) that supposedly does not need to be cleaned off the PCB. It shouldn't be an issue either way. Use a desoldering pump if you have it.
