The Los Angeles Lakers immortalized Kobe Bryant's legacy by unveiling a 19-foot bronze statue outside Crypto.com Arena (former Staples Center) on February 8, 2024. The date 2-8-24, symbolizes the jersey number of Gianna, No. 2 and Kobe's iconic jersey numbers 8 and 24. The 4,000 pounds statue shows Kobe Bryant in his No. 8 jersey with his finger raised, depicting the moment he scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in 2006. It was the second-highest total in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain's legendary 100 point game. Vanessa Bryant announces that three statues will be created to honor Kobe, who died in a tragic helicopter crash along with his daughter Gianna and seven others in January 26, 2020.

I honestly think if Kobe was still here, he would have made sure the name would have stayed the same. It's pathetic in my opinion that anyone allowed that. I live in st Louis Busch stadium could never be anything else it wouldn't make sense

Right! They should've let it stick. No matter the issues with cost. Work That Out! lol Some things truly _are_ more important than money! Hell, I'd have been happy if they named it the Kobe Center! Or the Bryant Center. But if not, at least stick with something memorable, because it matters to US! So it should have mattered to *them.*

@@go1tigers I highly doubt that. He understood business is business. The Forum is no longer called the Great Western Forum. It's bad enough these modern day Roman Colosseums have to be named after a business at all. It's not like decades ago when arenas and stadiums were named after the city. Now these facilities are just looking for a company willing help pay the bills in exchange for having a giant billboard.

Even the flag waving to the side there when you first came around to him... got me choked up. And I saw who put those flowers there to the left at the bottom with the championship trophies. It added such a beautiful, perfect touch the whole time! 👌🏽 BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL Piece! Beyond elated that it's there. Mamba Forever!

His passing is still unbelievable to me. He shouldn't be dead. He should be with us right now. The statue is surreal and it's so weird seeing him as kind of a martyr. The guy lived to live. He was the embodiment of someone living a gracious life. Doing what he was supposed to do on this earth. Being a great father, a passionate teammate, and left an indelible impression on you. The way he carried himself. It felt like he was untouchable like in the way Matt Barnes tried to make him flinch to buzzer after buzzer beater shots. As a blazer fan I was kind of saying, "why won't you die?" whenever this guy hit a clutch shot against us. Because that's what it felt like. It felt like this guy wouldn't go away for some time. He was the ultimate human competitor. If you had me name five people who would represent the word "competitor" he'd have to be included among those five. This is just unreal. Fk....rip mamba.

I want to share a Kobe Bryant memory. I was born and raised in Orange County. Which is the Los Angeles area. So since birth I was a Lakers fan I was born in 1997. In the 2008 finals when Lakers lost to the Celtics. I remember sitting with my dad, my mom, and my sister. We were all laughing having a blast knowing Kobe would win the game for us but when they lost we had to turn off the TV before the game ended and I remember my holding back tears and the living room getting quiet all of a sudden no more laughs or joys... I couldn't hold my tears any longer so I hurried back to my room to lay down and cry because I remember seeing the pain in Kobes face. And my family too we were all devastated that they lost the 2008 finals. I cried for an hour straight into my pillow it was one of the worst days of my life. Love you Kobe you gave it your all every single second to me you are the goat. My family is 1st generation mexican 🇲🇽 but we love Kobe because he married a Mexican woman. My parents hardly speak english but are huge fans of Kobe I just remember like wow the pain we all felt sitting in the living room when he lost man it's. A memory I will never forget ..

I'm from Oakland, but I lived in LA for 15 years during the days when the Lakers were playing at the Great Western Forum and I can watch Kareem and Magic for $25.00 ... I'm a diehard Warriors fan, but I also understand Laker Nation, and I am glad someone in that organization has finally put their foot down and restored order ... Lebron has got to go, he is not true Lakers and no amount of hype will make it so ... Kareem is the GOAT, I saw that sky hook in real time so it is not up for debate, next is Dr. J ... next comes Bird and Magic ... then Michael Jordan, then Kobe ...

The first thing that comes to my mind when I see the statue is..I dont see kobe's face in it it just looks like some random dude. I cant quite put my finger on it as to why but thats my thoughts. Not trying to be salty or anything Im very happy to see Kobe get a statue and if people that are close to him are good with it then thats fine but I cant unsee the face being off a bit to me. Maybe if I see it in person I will think differently.

All these incidents hurt me to my soul and I'll will never be the same 💯 Rest in peace Kobe! You truly miss bruh 💯
