Great video as always! I miss this beautiful Kyoto view. I actually walked down that street with my friends before when we met up one weekend, coming from different parts of Japan (me from Kitakyushu) from where we were studying. The way the buses cut and stop are really dangerous, but it happens in Singapore (where the Camp Royale Foldies are from) alot. Cars are worse as they may do it at high speed without a care of if you're a cyclist or a bus. They'd even cut buses and jam brake in front of the bus. That's why we usually have to stay alert. All the best in Thailand and hope to see more vids from there too!

Was searching for a video on renting a bicycle in Kyoto and stumbled upon your video! Loved it so much! I have a few questions if you don't mind: 1)Any bike rental shops would you recommend in Kyoto city centre? 2)If there are no arrow + bicycle mark drawn on the side of the road, is it safe or legal to ride along that street/road? 3)Assuming i need to stop half way for a meal or drink, can i just park my bicycle outside the shop? Thank you so much in advance. I will continue to watch your other videos in kyoto and osaka.

I’m really surprised that the bus drivers are that reckless. Even in bike hating Britain, they will slow down and follow a cyclist as they approach a stop.

@@TwoWheelCruise To be fair to the drivers, they’re probably put under insane pressure to hit timetables to the exact second. And presumably the traffic is worse than it used to be. No excuse for dangerous driving but another reason why societies really need to just slow down.

I think as a fellow cyclist and driver, we need to understand and realise that public motor vehicles should have the right of way if there is no dedicated bike lane. It won’t make much sense for a cyclist to slow public bus and taxi services down because some roads just aren’t big enough for vehicles to overtake. Pace of life, work environment is definitely faster in more developed Asian countries, hence lesser patience. Being both, I try to exercise caution and understanding. We have to respect their road culture, like it or not. Great tour by the way! Looking forward to more!
@hellopsp180
@hellopsp180 2 жыл бұрын
Also a cyclist and a driver. I do not agree with above. In japan Pedestrians are king, so they already established a hierarchy. Pedestrians > Cyclists, Horse riders > Motor Vehicles. Its the same in the UK. Even if it is frustrating to be behind a slow cyclist or a horse rider, it doesn't make it right to cut people off and just make the situation more dangerous like the examples in the video. I don't think its the car or motor vehicles to blame. Its simply the attitude of road users feeling more entitled. This is why protected bike lanes/ dedicated bike lanes are the only way of the future. Keep cars, pedal cycles and pedestrians 100% separate. Amsterdam has this mastered already. Only question is why haven't we :) Also having "less patience" is a crap excuse for endangering someone's life

Cruise, after so many cycling videos I’ve watched of you both, I noticed on this one that your hand positions are the same as mine. You place your left thumb over the bars and not under. I do that because of slight tendinitis at the base of the left thumb from an accident a number of years ago. Placing the thumb over the bars relives tension. So, what’s your excuse 😂? Another great video. You should be in Thailand soon, right?

I wonder what makes the drivers of various cities in Japan so different- Kyoto, you pretty much expect to get cut off, Kobe is a lot more laid back. The availability of rental bikes makes riding a great option to see more without having to time your visits to a bus/train schedules.

@@TwoWheelCruise Japan is like the US with very high standards of living and tech luxuries (assuming you're not poor and struggling; and I felt safer living in Japan than states). But, for all the talk, I felt far more free while I was traveling in South America than ever in the US. When you're out in the Amazon, there's not a lot of people telling you what to do. I imagine much of Southeast Asia is similar in that way compared to Japan. I've never met anyone with a bad experience in Vietnam. The chaotic sort of guidelines more than hard rules mindset in places like Thailand and Vietnam makes a more laid back society and people are more relaxed and happy it seems. Also the cycling around Chiang Mai looks amazing.
