4K Thailand Cycling Tour - Bangkok Green Mile Bicycle Path from Lumpini Park to Benjakitti Forest Park. Bike Touring on folding bikes.
This is an elevated cycling path in the center of Bangkok that connects Lumpini Park and Benjakitti Park as well as the new Benjakitti Forest Park. It is a safe way to escape the dangerous roads of Bangkok.
The main cycling course around Benjakitti park was closed today, but a new bike course in the Benjakitti Forest Park area was open.
The time for cycling on the course is limited since, the park quickly gets very busy with other people and runners after work hours.

The elevated path idea is really cool. It’s a shame it’s a bit badly designed in places with the steep walking ramps and stuff. But they are trying, and it is novel. So they deserve credit for that, and it shows they are going in the right direction. They could easily have just got the giant paint roller out and made painted bicycle gutters on those 8 lane urban highways.

Here's a suggestion for Bangkok. Just SE of the city is a place called Ancient City, or Muangboran Museum. It is essentially a very large park with re-built historical Thai houses and temples. Closed to traffic except for bicycles and their own scenic shuttle buses. Great place to spend the day bicycling, as well as taking in lots of Thai arhitecture and culture. Not too hard to get to... take the BTS to the last stop - Kheha (if they opened it since my last visit), then best to take your foldy bikes and jump in a cab for about 4 Kms. You could probably bike it from the BTS station, google maps even says portions of the 4 kms has a bike path, but not sure I would recommend it since it is all very busy Sukhumvit road. Oh yeah, and the restaurant on the little island inside the little lake has mango with sticky rice. Enjoy.

@@TwoWheelCruise Just remembered something - they have bicycles there. You will probably read that when you google or tripadvisor the location. They have sheds throughout the park with bikes that you can borrow then leave in any other shed. However these bikes are horribly maintained and useless to anyone over 5'5". Probably donated throw-aways. So, don't make the mistake I made and take your own instead.

I had to look up to see what side of the road traffic drives on in Japan.... I see it's the left so you are used to the Thai traffic... I've been to Thailand 3 times and twice I almost stepped in front of traffic when I got in a hurry forgetting it's not the same as U.S.A.. I've only been through the Bangkok airport and spent all of my time on the island of Phuket...I like the sand and swimming....thanks for the video and stay safe

At last, a proper enjoyable bike ride above the crazy traffic without the feeling that you are either being gassed or about to be hit ! The city badly needs those lovely parks to escape to and see and hear a bit of nature. You might need to carry at least a couple of your water bottles with you , filled up at the hotel before you leave, Also, Thai food is not just tasty but very easy to cook at home once you stock up with a few basic ingredients, which no doubt you will try out at your next destination !

I think it’s smart that you scope out the places to go during the daytime. Definitely stay away from the questionable places. About squirrels, we have tons of squirrels where I live. They tend to run across the road while traffic is passing. My theory is that they are trying to impress their mates. Most make it, but occasionally some don’t. Thus far I’ve run over two or three unintentionally while cycling. (I feel so bad when it happens).

I'm liking all these videos being pumped out right as I'm entering winter break from grad school! So I know nothing about Thailand but I think its probably not super uncommon for military to do some construction work, especially in things that aren't going to be profitable for a private developer like a town park. When I was living in Okinawa the US military had construction people that would sometimes work with Japanese construction company on things around their base. And during natural disasters the military would do things in the US. Honestly, given how the crony capitalist money kickbacks are done with the mayor in my town getting rich by siphoning tax money to his development company, I'd rather the military just do it instead. Probably less expensive and gives military people a skill to use when they are no longer in the army. I can see for many countries this being economical.

I wonder if You can purchase a fold up bike with a belt drive : I have a , "Smart Motion", normal sized bike with belt drive and internal hubs , I find myself riding the S M , more than the Avanti ( semi-mountain bike ) , mainly because of the convenience of the belt drive ( Gates Carbon belt , made in America ) rather than the chain drive with external gears ; Cheers and stay safe both of You !

Is there a business opportunity for you selling vending machines by maybe partnering with a Japanese firm? I know you don't speak Thai (yet), but I imagine that there are plenty of people in Bangkok who speak English, and you're fluent in Japanese, so you might be in a good position to introduce Thailanders to the wonders of the vending machine.

Definitely would not ride up the elevated path. You cannot see the person coming from the other side. Probably not too easy to stop in the middle of a climb on that path. About Squirrels. Yes they are rare and probably non-existent in major cities. However, if you do venture outside the major city in some mountain hiking areas early in the morning, you can still find them. I like that exercise equipment at an outdoor park. No need to go to the gym and with COVID, it is safer to be outdoors anyway.

This ramp is not okay for elderly cyclists with heavy steel bikes. Why is there a wall between the sidewalk and the bike ramp? That's quite an odd thing for me.

It seems suicidal to ride those main roads in Bangkok on a bicycle. There are no bike paths and even riding on the sidewalk seems dangerous.

22:32 actually yes. The military are the ones whose working on the Park. Benchakitti Park is undergoing 3rd and 4th phase expansion (that's why dirts are filling up the roads there), there are also some other new parks being built in Bangkok and the military most of whom are draftees are woking on it. There's a saying that Drafting in Thailand is basically a Modern Day equivalent to slavery. You can see why. They do everything building parks, cleaning up trash filled canals, being a house maid for their higher ups, disaster relief etc. while the higher ups sips coffee in their mansions. The Military in Thailand is the worst of two worlds. The blatant corruption of Bureaucracy and oppression of the working class by the elites.
