Presented in 4K, Semaphores in 4K! The Glorieta and Raton Pass in Northern New Mexico host the last remaining operational semaphore signals in the country. These steam era signals, nearly 100 years old, still stand strong for the 2 daily trains that travel this section of line. With the imminent replacement of these signals being further progressed by BNSF, I made it a priority this year to visit these amazing pieces of machinery as many times as possible throughout 2017. Featured in this video, is a tribute to these amazing signals for viewing enjoyment and historical preservation.
Once a bustling rail line owned by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the Raton and Glorieta Subdivisions now only host 2 Amtrak trains a day, the Southwest Chief trains 3 and 4. Also known for the breathtaking scenery located here in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, it's no wonder why this section of line is known by many near and far.
I managed to visit multiple locations along this "stuck in time" rail line, all the way from Trinidad, Colorado to Bernalillo, New Mexico. Everything from vintage semaphore and searchlight signals, classic sounding jointed rail, and other countless Santa Fe era relics scatter the tracks on the Raton and Glorieta Pass.
All locations and train info featured in the video. Videos featured from North to South geographically.
Thanks for watching!
