I highly recommend you DO NOT do this! There is a much higher chance you ruin your board and make it irreparable than fix it by doing this. There is also a 99% chance you did not properly fix the board and that it will fail again either in the next few weeks or months. If you don't use the TV often then you may have a little more time but it will be limited and the fault will come back soon. Trust me when I say that I wouldn't have spent $5,000 on a professional machine to perform these repairs if it was just as easy to toss it in an oven to fix it. You are introducing a serious amount of risk with a very high chance of breaking the board beyond repair and a very low chance it comes out still working. In the instance it comes out working it's almost guaranteed it's a very short-term fix. What you are doing essentially with the oven is the heat gun trick which as stated is not a repair, it's just a way for us to diagnose the fault.

I appreciate the video, and especially your video on the back cover removal. That helped immensely, I was afraid I was going to break it removing it. I have the same exact TV, just died while watching. Prior to that I've had a couple times in the last year where the TV wouldn't power, I would unplug it from the wall, wait a couple minutes, plug it back in and it would work. I've also had issues sometimes where the colors on the screen are inverted, but after changing the picture resolution, then back again, the picture would go back to normal. I've seen on forums some people say it's the power board, others say the main board. I tried the heat trick and it didn't work. No power, no light, no anything. Is the mainboard replacement my best bet?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 5 ай бұрын
If you have this exact model TV then yes the mainboard is the most likely culprit. I have never seen this unit have a bad power supply before. If you saw someone have success with a power supply replacement on a forum it must have not been for the same model TV they must have been talking about another 4k Vizio LED set. Heating doesn't always work, sometimes the cracks in the solder joints are just to far gone and heating won't be enough to temporarily bridge the gap again. If you can't find a replacement, we do offer a flat rate mail in service to fix your original defective board which comes with a 1 Year warranty. Heat
@shaypatel4217
@shaypatel4217 7 ай бұрын
Does that heating the main processor work on other brands as part of troubleshooting?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 7 ай бұрын
Heating the processor as a troubleshooting step works on any device that suffers from cracked solder joint faults. If it doesn't work for your unit, it means that either your unit is not suffering from cracked solder joint on the CPU, or the cracks are so bad that heating it up won't be enough to temporarily fix it. This is why sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries. I wouldn't do more thant that, otherwise you run the risk of overheating the processor and potentially damaging it. What model TV are you trying to troubleshoot currently and what symptoms are you experiencing?

How does one get into learning this type of repair, diagnosis tools ect?
@NicksTVRepair

It started as a hobby 10 years ago, buying broken TV's on facebook and craigslist, and learning how to fix TVs from forums, youtube videos and so on. For me it started as trial and error. After about 2 years I was confident enough in my ability to fix these to start repairing them for customers instead of just buying broken and selling refurbished.

Where do I get good solder wick like that? I can only find smaller stuff and some of it doesn't even work. It doesn't fan out because its too small and the braid is too tight.

Hi good day, I have a Vizio d43f-j04 TV three months ago when I turn it on there are some white lines from the icons are the caption are any thing that light in the picture,, if I turn down the brightness are the contrast it go away a little, I change the tcom board and all so the main board but no luck
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 6 ай бұрын
If you already replaced your mainboard and the T-con board and still have issues with lines then it means most likely your screen has gone out and needs to be replaced. This is typically not financially viable and means it may be best to look into a replacement TV.

I have a m50 C1 it shows a stdby light, light goes bright with power on, and occasionally shows one half good and the other side distorted, most time it does nothing, no BLs, no pic no sound. I noticed the V logo showed good on both sides the one time it actually came on. Reflow? let me check the PS on signal...PS-On come up to 3.7, but on-off does not.
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 9 ай бұрын
Yup you are going to want to do a reflow on that one. I do recommend reflowing both the main processor and the video processor. Both suffer from cracked joints and issues so if you are going to reflow one, might as well reflow the other as well. We always do both to ensure the board doesn't fail again soon because if you don't there is a good chance it will come back for repair within a year. If one went out, the other is not to far behind usually.

Where can i get the right BGA stencil? is this a specialized stencil that i have to order somewhere or can i get a pack of assorted stencils and it will be included?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 11 ай бұрын
We typically talk to suppliers in china. You can use universal stencils, but they are a bit more difficult to use typically. Usually we try to get some custom made for each chip if they are not already available. Most of these we find from sellers in china. Aliexpress and alibaba have tools and components available for sale. Taobao is also a good resource for parts.

My Vizio is a couple of years old and recently on Father's Day :(. The tv turns on and you can see the screen come on, but it's a black screen. I've tried all of the easy fixes, but nothing works. Tech support mentioned a possible power supply issue? They're sending me a refund for the TV. I'd hate to toss the TV and would like to fix it myself. Any suggestions?

@NicksTVRepair

Reballing is not an easy task, it may look easy in the video but that is mostly because the tech in the video has done it thousands of times. You were shown the entirety of the process in the video, there are no other hidden parts or tricks to it.

@NicksTVRepair

The symptom is slightly different but the cause of the fault is the same, cracked solder joints on the processor. This means the repair is the same as shown in the video. Different symptoms can manifest from this issue but the repair doesn't change.

I notice everyone wears gloves is that to prevent exposure to lead ?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Жыл бұрын
The gloves are more so to avoid getting flux, or thermal past on my fingers. You may know more than I do, and if someone does and wants to chime in, please do. But my understanding when it comes to the leaded solder is as long as you wash your hands after using it, as long as you have a good fume extractor then you should be okay.
@Brian-yt8fu
@Brian-yt8fu Жыл бұрын
@@NicksTVRepair yes that thermal paste and flux is very sticky. I used to work in a tv repair shop years ago. You're work skills are excellent especially when it comes to soldering.
@vernonbosshard9317

they need to make the chips like CPUs so you replace them easy.
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Жыл бұрын
If they did that, then they wouldn't need to get fixed as often either. You wouldn't be getting the cracked solder joints that we so commonly see on so many devices. Only issue is that the chip might have to be much larger to allow for more pins and connections between the board and the chip.

@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Жыл бұрын
This will not work for 99% of cases. However this means that you have some sort of loose connection somewhere causing your fault. This might be a big clue as to figuring out what the issue is. This could be a loose connection on one of the ribbons or wires, or it could be a loose connection between a component and a circuit board as well.
