College football has stars every year, but the ones who never make it to the NFL, we tend to forget. It's good to reminiscence on how dominant some of these players once were.

I just came here to talk about Colt, sending my condolences to his family. I've had similar folks in my family suffer from the evils of alcohol but we were fortunate enough to save them. It's such a shame that Brennan couldn't be saved, not for my own interests, but his families...

Colt Brennan was one of my favorite college players of all-time, I would never forget. Dude should've been the starter for the Redskins out of the draft.
@mattcarberry368
@mattcarberry368 6 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Being a great college player doesn't mean you have what it takes to be great in the NFL. I remember watching him in both the NFL and NCAA. He never found his feet in the NFL, he was jumpy and hesitant and struggled to throw with anticipation and find windows in coverage. He tried to side arm too many balls and had a lot batted down easily as a result. People need to remember, there is a HUGE difference between thriving in a spread college typically one read system playing against mid level schools, and stepping into an NFL offense against the best defenses in the world. A lot of these college gimmick-ish systems produce some major stat padders against weaker competition whose numbers don't necessarily indicate their next level ability. The things they do and rely on in those systems are not at all sustainable in the pro game. He deserved his chance for sure, which he got. But there's no way in hell you can say he deserved to just be handed the starting job.

I never understood how Brennan never got a chance. He lit it up in preseason on a team with nothing but scrub qb's. He was crazy accurate and had a cannon arm. To this day I get disappointed when I think of what he could have done in the NFL.

Worth noting that Burrow did play one more game than Colt Brennan. While 60 TDs is EXTREMELY impressive, Burrow only managed to pass the record by throwing 5 TDs in the Championship game against Clemson. He also threw 7 TDs in the semifinals before that. Not downplaying his accomplishment, because it is a record that likely won't be touched for a long time, but it took 15 games to break a record that Colt Brennan set in 13 (he did not manage to throw a TD pass against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl). Edit, for reference, Burrow was 10 TDs behind Brennan after the SEC Championship (Game 13).

Here's a story from that Hawaii vs Georgia Sugar Bowl... Colt Brennan had skipped curfew and was partying out all night in New Orleans the day before.. cause it's New Orleans In the 2nd quarter since they were getting beat, June Jones decided to call plays with no blockers just as payback for staying out late the night before. My dad knows June Jones, he's a pretty nice guy.

The thing about Reggie Bush was that he was really fast and deadly on the edges. But in the NFL you have to run north and south, not side to side. NFL defenses are too fast to let you get the edge consistently. He couldn't run between the tackles. So he ended up mainly being a pass catching back where they could get him in space more. In college you've got spread offenses, lots of space to do that kinda stuff. And the other team's best defender likely wasn't even good enough to make the practice squad in the NFL.

Started watching your videos yesterday. Good stuff that brings back memories. Seeing these videos and your D1 story is a humbling reminder that to make it to D1 level sports you have to be an elite athlete and put in hard work. It's so easy to become spoiled and call guys trash that don't perform at a high level. Then to call guys trash that are elite at D1 and don't make the pros or perform well in pros, is just stupid (which I've been plenty guilty of). Thanks for the content

I remember over a decade ago the over/under for WVU and Marshall was 78 or so, I believe the final was something like 78 to 75. And RIP Colt Brennan, had no idea until showing up here he passed

I really, really like this series. Just subscribed bc of it. Here's some potential names you could use in future videos. Senaca Wallace (Was an absolute beast at Iowa State, made them relevant for a year but was always a back up in the pros) Peter Warrick (Was amazing at FSU but never did much in the pros outside of one decent season) Josh Heupel (Starting QB for OU when the Sooners won the 2000 national championship, finished second in Heisman voting, never did much in the pros) Erik Crouch (Badass option QB at Nebraska who never did anything in the pros) Ryan Broyles (Yes he's another OU guy but I'm a huge OU fan so... He broke the all time NCAA receptions record and played on some very good teams, another guy who quickly faded out in the pros, mostly due to injuries) Ian Johnson (The running back who proposed to a cheerleader after boise beat OU in the fiesta bowl) Beanie Wells (Amazing running back at Ohio State who I never heard of again after his college days) Marcus Lattimore (Great running back for South Carolina who could never avoid injuries) Just a few options, but I really hope you keep making these bro!

Hey KTO could you upload a video about Wally Richardson? He's never really been recognized for achieving the improbable...He was the only QB in NFL history with 1 passing yard.......That's right, he threw a ball 36 inches just so you would talk about him. I beg of you KTO, make a video for Wally..... #IStandForWally

No people remember, it just doesn't matter in the NFL. College stats don't mean anything once you graduate. How many college records did Tom Brady set? He could barely even fend off Drew Henson to be a full time starter. Look at how many Heisman winners have done absolutely nothing in the NFL. So no, people don't forget what Kellen did on the blue turf. It just doesn't matter in terms of what he can do now.

It's not just Colt Brennan at Hawaii who ended up like this. Hawaii has spent the last couple decades having some gunslinging QBs who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn half the time (but who racked up huge numbers playing against glorified high school WAC/Mountain West players who were still confused from flying 100,000 miles to paradise for a football game.) Timmy Chang was the other top example. Everyone talked about how amazing he supposedly was while at Hawaii, but he was never that accurate and disappeared after college

You made a really good video. As a HUGE fan of both *Hawaii* and *Texas Tech* I will NEVER forget *Colt Brennan* or *Graham Harrell* , as both were as good at QB in college as you could ever hope to find. I'm glad *Harrell* has a ring, but *Brennan* never even got a shot, and his rookie year, his pre-season stats were insanely good. Heck, they were great. I'll never understand why *Zorn* never gave him a chance that first year. Anyway, good video!
