In this video I go through all the trials and tribulations I had in removing this CV Axle. These may be issues you’ll encounter living in Canada or the rust belt in the Northern States when changing out your front CV Axle.

Damn! I know hindsight is 20/20 but if you cant get the axle outta the wheel hub just pull the hub and take the axle out attached to it. Sucks after all that effort to save the wheel hub yiu changed it anyway. But after your video, if i have any issue getting the axle outta that hub ill just use a new one on the new axle. These jobs are a pain. Thanks for taking the time to show the difficulties.

Bro... What did I just witness that was brutal! I'm happy you didn't give up big motivation but dang I'm scared now I have to do this on my ram tomorrow and live within the salt belt . Praying I don't have anywhere near this much trouble. You sir deserve many subscribers for this one, I think I got PTSD just from watching 😅

I’m having this issue now. I just replaced the cv axle a yr ago. The boot tore I thought it would be a simple job. The passenger side was easy as F! Driver side won’t budge. I just ordered a 15 ton hub press I’m prob gonna need to cut the ball joint tho like you did.
@Shawnsboostedgarage4 ай бұрын
Yeah most likely you will. It sucks but the alternative is buying all new parts. If you sacrifice the ball joint then you can possibly save replacing the bearing and its mount. Heat will help too but the risk of the heat is ruining your wheel bearing as well. If you’ve hammered in the end of the cv axle a bunch then likely you’ll need a new bearing as well. It all just sucks but when putting it back together use some anti seize on the cv splines to avoid all of this the next time. Good luck!

@@Shawnsboostedgaragealready ordered new upper lower ball joints and a wheel bearing. Not even gonna mess around with it. Figured I’m in there already. I don’t wanna mess around with it again

2012 and ordering parts. Still have not decided if i want to pay someone or try it in my garage here in Saskatchewan.

Well all I can say is if you don’t have access to a press then you might want to get someone else to do it. It’s not an impossible job but it’ll test your patience for sure! lol

Honestly, that was just nuts! I thought it might be possible to simply undo the wheel hub bolts and pull the CV axle through the hole in the spindle with the wheel hub still attached, but it looks like the CV axle is too wide. Maybe cutting the bottom CV joint housing might have allowed it to fit through? IDK. I'm forced to do this repair on my own 2014 ATM, and what I'm seeing across all the videos on KZfaq is daunting. Dodge Ram should've used a better design. I'm going to have to drive in this condition for the week until the tools I ordered to help with this job arrive. At least I won't need 4x4 at this time of the year. Wish me luck!

If you can get the assembly off the truck and then in a press you’ll stand a better chance. Good luck to you! It’s hard but not impossible.

I didn't get to see any of that since you did it all off camera .

Worst thing Ram owners now have is alot of front end parts are discontinued.

No big deal on the dust shield it happens. I forgot a o ring on my Toyota rear axle and had to take it all apart. 😱🙄

Shifty design by dodge, splines are not encased in dfferential, to stay clean from rust and dirt

I agree. Definitely could have come up with a better design!

Oh I would have but my garage is small and it was sticking out the door!
@SuperDave-pe1zw2 жыл бұрын
Man I would've changed the hub too, if the cv is that bad and stuck that hub has to be shot too. Would've been easier to just pull spindle and hub, axle at once.
@Shawnsboostedgarage2 жыл бұрын
I did change the hub too…it was shot from all heating and smashing. I’m order to get the spindle off you have to remove the axle because of the orientation of the ball joint. I had to cut my ball joint with a grinder to get the whole assembly out and on to a press. I didn’t get that part on video.
@SuperDave-pe1zw2 жыл бұрын
@@Shawnsboostedgarage I had to change my hub on the side of the road, was pretty simple but I don't live in the rust belt and it was on a 2015 , hardest part was the lift spindles make it hard to reach hub bolts. My right boot has ripped for some reason so I'm about to do both axles.

@@SuperDave-pe1zw yeah living in the rust belt makes everything harder. I put never seize on everything I take apart! Definitely couldn’t have done this job on the side of the road…lol

We did this, and it won't even come out the diff. Like a 3lb hammer, ALOT of heat. And no cigar.
@Shawnsboostedgarage Жыл бұрын
I used a 30 Tonne press and a lot of heat. It’s not easy to do. Most people just replace the whole assembly because of not being able to get the axle freed from the hub. A 3lb hammer won’t do it. You’ve got to get a big press and torch to get the axle out of the hub. Good luck and I hope you get it apart!
