From Great Australian Bight National Park I continue east, pass through Adelaide, Melbourne, the BFG tyre launch event and onto Byron Bay NSW, from where my East-West crossing can begin. I make final preparations to the vehicle in Ipswich, Queensland, and then set off. By nightfall, Kate (my daughter has joined me) and I are camped in some remote spot.
In this expedition, Andrew St Pierre White and his daughter Kate drive across Australia - twice, in a Toyota Land Cruiser 78 series Troopy. First the easy way, returning the difficult way. This is their story.

My wife has lots of relatives in the Adelaide and Whyalla region of Australia. I visited them from Sceon numerous occasions and always said I would live to cross the Nullabor and they thought I was crazy. I was fortunate to do the crossing in 2019 just before Vivid but due to the generosity of my brother-in-law. The best trip of my life and I have travelled. The last 10 hour drive into Horseman was hard.

What a great start to what I am sure is going to be one of your best series to date. A couple of teeny-weeny corrections, the body of water you were passing as you drove east was the Southern Ocean (at least by Australian standards). The Indian Ocean is considered to end at Cape Leeuwin. Also Eyre is pronounced more like 'air' with a slight e sound at the start :) Didn't detract at all from the video which was excellent as always. Loved the very last shot as Kate ran away from the expanding tent.

see my other reply above. Not the Southern Ocean .. it's the Great Australian Bight!
@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen
@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen 6 жыл бұрын
Arthur Stefos depends what source you refer to. Internationslly 60 Degrees lat is the Southern Ocean but for whatever reason Australia recognises above 60 lat as the Southern Ocean as well.
@arthurking8348
@arthurking8348 6 жыл бұрын
Indian Ocean extends between WA and Eastern Africa to it's west boundary, and to the north south east asia. But that wasn't my point. The point being that the body of water along that edge of Aus, bounded at Cape Carnot(SA) to the east, and Cape Pasley(WA) to the west is The GAB. Possibly extends down to 36S Lat. ie. Not an ocean. South of that(36°S Lat) is the Southern Ocean.

Andrew, it is so much fun to look and listen to your videos. I’ve looked quite a few of them now and I had to say they are all amazing. Content, Scene and cut are perfect! But one thing I would like to ask you - here in Austria in Central Europe we think about Australia as the country with the most poisonous animals all over the world. I can’t even imagine to sleep in the outback. How do you manage with all those deadly creatures their only goal is to bite you and eat you up. :-)

Andrew, I think it's the Southern Ocean down there, Eyre is pronounced air, and the town was Tenterfield. Other than those minor glitches, a great video. Thank you. Ps, never go inland without a fly veil, they'll crawl into every place they can fit. There's nothing worse than breathing fly. 😊
