The first time I saw this truck was back in 1996 in the movie TWISTER. A brand new clean red Dodge Ram. I was a kid and I said "that's my dream truck". I loved it back then, I love it now!!!!!

Fantastic video, just last weekend I pulled the service box and body off my dad's 2001 2500 cummins he bought new. Cab, fenders and doors were shot. Going to do some frame repair, paint it, brake lines, fix the leaks, rebuild the front end, put new exhaust on, then put a new cab on, swap the interior and wiring back in. Then top it off by putting the original box back on that's been in the barn since 01. Great video, learned a couple tricks about the doors but we are doing things much the same, I even pulled the cab with a tractor. Glad to be a subscriber now!

@@whitemale2248 he's talking about the body & interior (perhaps some other things) which I have to agree is inferior compared to GM's & Ford quality wise, especially the 2nd gens. @@johnr4821 I work at a scrap yard and im not bias, ill drive whatevers best. I dont drive chevies because of there front end, electrical problems, and bad transmissions. i dont drive fords because general quality is very poor, weak frames, most of there gas engines have lots of problems and have wierd designs, and all there diesels past the 7.3 are a money pit. Best truck is a dodge frame (past 94) cummins, nv5600, dana 80 rear dana 60 front axle. so just buy a dodge and replace the body every 20 years and yer good. And yes the body will last 20 years, i live in the snow belt and my 01 dodge is just starting to get some wholes in the rocker panels and fenders.

They make tools for removing door panels, those plastic clips should come off with the panel, you need to pop each clip with a tool or you can cause stretch marks in the outer panel. The same with those clips on the wires, they come out with a flick of the wrist with the right tool.

I bought my 01 2500 at auction and the previous owner (carbon county public works) did not take care of it. It has only 81k miles on it, but it was used exclusively as a plow vehicle here in PA. I had to change the heater core and when I pried back the dash, I found it was terribly rusted. They had run the truck with a leaking heater core and allowed the corrosive coolant to splash all over the steel dash carcass. They also let it leak into the blower motor until it caught fire and stunk up the truck like burned wires. The dash came out in 20 or 30 pieces. I decided to remove it completely since the plastic was garbage anyway so I could sand blast and paint the metal skeleton. I am glad I did that as I intend to customize the dash with fiberglass and make a nav/media player with gauges with a Raspberry Pi and 10" screen and I need to move some of the duct work anyway to mount it in the center.

So the engine, trans, t/c, axles and suspension all came off the rusty diesel and is now in the gas frame/body. the main pain was wiring. its coming together though, trying to make a few videos of it soon.

Cool that has the brown interior mine has the two Chrysler light and dark mist grey and the rainbow thread design seats and door panels but I can't complain it was a nothern Ohio truck since new, I have solid floors a few spots over the wheels on the bed and the tailgate is solid but the top is bent in the right corner, and the bed floor right up in front of the tailgate has three spots rusting through factory no bedmat, bed liner or camper shell.front fenders are rotted over the wheels and starting behind the doors so I plan to get two good gloss black front fenders used, and the front doors are decent but the wrong doors,it has regular cab or club cab doors on my quad cab 2000 Laramie slt 1500 it was a lower trim level truck the doors came from audio latina speakers and two wire speaker plug my truck has 8 wire plug. Rear doors have a little rust on the bottom and the rockers on the outside are rusty but the door jamb rocker is firmly attached with no upper holes so... And I have a complete set of stainless steel brake lines for my truck from classic tube out of Ohio $209

Would you consider a 5.9 Cummins buyers guide? What you like and dislike about the different years? 12v v 24v? And if there was a year dodge that was preferred? I’ve always heard the last years for the 2nd gen dodge were some of the best, but I’ve seen plenty of people who prefer the 12v. Interested in your opinions.

24v 2nd gen from 1998.5 to 2002 has the vp44 injection pump they blow decently often but 1994 to 1998 have the 12v which doesn't have that problem but will need the killer dowel pin fix

If there is a video, please share! I couldn’t find anything in particular. I’d like to know what Rich thinks. My 300d has a manual style IP and my 340k mile VW TDI has the electronic IP. Both work flawlessly and so what are the pros/cons for a Cummins? What about the dreaded 53 block? Later year dodges had more options like 4 wheel disk breaks, etc., so what about other features?

My vp44 makes nasty noises sometimes. It's time to ditch it and move onto a newer truck.

To check for the 53 block poke your head into the wheel well of the truck in front of the tire and look at the block on a 2nd gen 24v it should have a casting number telling you if its a 53 or not on the side of the block. On the injection pumps vp44 is just a all around crap injection pump they fail quite often and when they do its almost $2,000 to fix the pump if you buy a new replacement. The 12v trucks had either the Ve pump or the p7100 pump. A p7100 pump is know as the p-pump and is the best one you can have horsepower wise and reliability wise. On questions that are not engine related I can't really help answer as most of my knowledge is of the engine not the body or drive terrain.

They should've recalled the trucks over that. I've had 2 of them, a '94 and a '99. Both dashes shattered. It's not the sunlight or the heat, it's the bad chemical makeup of the plastic itself.

About to do a cab swap on my 98 already put everything else of an 01 on it box front fenders hood doors. Have the cab off the donor truck but worried about the complications swapping a cab from an 01 v6 2wd on to a 98 v8 4x4 once its done I'll have a brand new looking 2nd gen. So far I've built the whole thing for less then $5000 including buying tools
