I wonder if summer is really the “busy” season anymore? Magic Keys have many more block out dates and folks coming from out of town seem to flock to the parks during the various fall and winter holidays. I remember last summer folks were saying how “light” the crowds felt in the summer, especially on Saturdays.

Mark you missed the mark on the cabins. As someone that's visited since the eighties...These were the last really affordable moderate option near the magic kingdom, And many families made this a yearly tradition to be able to visit... They're now gonna be taken over by DVC And dethemed which is a troubling trend across property.. It's not something to be celebrated we need affordable options for regular folks.

Exactly! It's not that they are being remodeled that's the problem, it's that the cabins will now be DVC. Jackie (Super Enthused) said that as well.

I think there are two aspects of the FW cabins you overlooked: A) these are going to be DVC cabins, so it's limiting it from the general public, and B) the number of new cabins is less than the number of old cabins, also limiting availability.

Dang! I had no idea there are so many down rides and construction work zones this summer. Sucks for families from out of town! Also… the Disney projects! Whaaaat?! Great news coverage this week! Thank you ❤

Oh noooo! If they have the summer opening events during Winter and the winter shut downs during the Summer, how do we know what time of year it is?! Also... I love the sneaky bits of Fantasmic and still remember when you told me about how Murphy pops out. Thanks for keeping us in the Disney know!

One theory I heard, which came across as informed speculation, was that the Fantasyland refurbs may be related to water damage from the rain this year.

I agree with your take on the modern vs Cracker Barrel cabin. That said the rendering does lack a unique Disney touch vs any modern glamping/ADU. Will have to see how the actual turns out, interiors, as well as the full resort feel. I’m sure it will be awesome and all will be forgotten😂

As you said I think If they had "Added" modern cabins alongside the Modern versions we'd be good, but to replace them I think is unfortunate...Though I'm sure the new cabins will be very comfortable!

After the Fantasmic incident, my guess would be they're doing a fire safety check on the Fantasyland buildings which have pyrotechnics on top. Losing Murphy was awful, but losing full ride buildings due to an uncontrolled fire would be even worse.

The cabins at Fort Wilderness as they are now, are one of the most affordable options for people who have to save for years just to have ONE vacation. NOW they want to cut that off to cater to the higher income-based consumers. THAT is why many people are upset. Average folks cannot afford the financial requirements Disney World keeps raising just to have a family vacation.

Uughh, the Flamingo Crossing project is a bad idea. What happens if an employee gets laid off or fired? It would be a double gut punch, you're fired - get out. Oh, and get out of YOUR HOME by midnight to make room for the new folks moving in tomorrow. I'm sure it would be more like 30 days, but c'mon. It sets up an inappropriate employer/employee power dynamic. There should be a clear separation between work and home. I feel for those poor souls who would live there. Great job as always Brickey!

Brickey the problem is taking away the “cash” moderate cabins for 5+ occupancy & making it now behind a “pay wall” aka DVC. I have taken my family to WDW on vacation there many times & It is very difficult to find availability for a family of 5+ at WDW in the moderate price range. The cabins were a great option for family that need larger rooms. Having a kitchen & being able to get food delivered makes a family vacations more affordable. So this is the reason why I am upset over this change. If I could afford it, I was interested in buying DVC for Reflections DVC tower.

I feel like you should know that Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are two different resorts. The cabins are located in Fort Wilderness and the problem with the new cabins is that they don’t look like cabins. The old ones were on theme with Fort Wilderness and these new ones look like giant garbage dumpsters.

Interesting they announced the closure of those group of rides ( Mr. Toads wild ride, Alice in wonderland) as Mr toads wild ride has that Hell part , which you can feel that heat in the Alice in wonderland side, interestingly... So maybe they want to evaluate that effect in the ride to prevent future fires.. ❤

i visited disneyland in june of 2019 and i ranked peter pan's flight and alice in wonderland above the bad rank in my tier list, and if i visited disneyland this month while those rides were closed for refurbishment, i would be upset, but not completely because i can still ride mickey & minnie's runaway railway and splash mountain

No question, the cabins are an upgrade. Whether or not they fit the atmosphere of Fort Wilderness (not Wilderness Lodge) is up to personal opinion; I think the main issue at hand is a vast majority of the cabins (350 of 400+ I think are the #s) now fall under the DVC booking branch. Which means the people who regularly stay here, who are NOT DVC members now have additional restrictions tied to trying to book a cabin.

That is an interesting take on affordable housing. If you are into this topic, this is something historically very common here in Europe. I think it can be done in a good or bad way. Here is a link to the wiki entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Company_town
