They also said the land was going to be fully accessible and it’s not really. Try maneuvering through all those grass areas in a wheelchair. We were trying to avoid the grass once we discovered it was to hard to push in, but it was so crowded, cast members were forcing people onto the grass. We gave the cast members there feedback about it

Great weekly news! I think Toontown changes are a win. Most all of what had been replaced had already been essentially neutered by attorneys. Ball pit long closed; bounce house closed; trolly stationary; slide in Donald’s boat closed off. Holding judgement until I see it in person but only disappointment seems to be wishing tree. Thanks for keeping us up to date. #club1313

If we are comparing the land when it opened vs now thats a debate. But Comparing 2019 Toontown to today, its a clear win. Donalds house you could barley walk in, same with the Chip and Dale Tree house. While not for all having a Picnic in Disneyland is something I plan on doing this summer. Mickey is a better ride is better then the Jolly Trolly which hasn't been at the park for what feels like 15 years anyway. Overall the new land is is not perfect but its a good land now, it has 2 great rides and one fine little coaster. The Picnic idea seems to excite many guests by the long lines. Kids seem to be loving the new playgrounds over just walking through basically dead houses with nothing to do. I give the new land an 8/10. Great for kids and pretty good for most people now and at nighttime the land really comes alive more and seems like the land will reopen after fireworks unlike before so mostly this is a win.

After traveling to Disneyland with a 2 year old, I appreciate the change to Toontown to make it even more kid (particularly younger than 5) friendly. I was surprised at just how little there is to do for toddlers at DLR. (Dark sides are incredibly loud, scary and well… dark!)

I think they could've repurposed some of the former Bugs Land rides into Toon Town instead of doing the whole playground thing - comes off as a bit tacky to me. Those rides were off the shelf and seemed small enough that they could've been accommodated and rethemed to fit within the land.

Gotta say, I'm definitely grateful that they put time and effort into Toontown and didn't just level it and build something else, but it does feel like they took a lot away in the process. It was insanely busy yesterday while I was there, so I'm hoping when I go back, it's calmed down a bit and I can really take the time to enjoy and take it all in.

A second nighttime show in villains land would be ideal. My fear with continued expansions to existing parks is that things like the fireworks shows become nightmare bottlenecks.

I haven’t been back to Disneyland since Toontown reopened but I keep thinking about the accessibility issues of Mickey’s Runaway Railway that you’ve previously addressed. As far as Epcot goes, I am extremely disappointed in the “updates” especially as a local. I really loved the ideas presented at D23 several years back and it seems like it’s going to the same park but with a different coat of paint.

Great coverage as usual. Looking forward to seeing Toontown on the next visit. From what I can see it looks like a better version of the original, but very similar of course. With the crowds, queues and general congestion in the parks these days, it’s nice for the younger citizens of Disneyland (and their parents 😉) to have some contained space to play. Tom Sawyer’s island, Redwood creek challenge and Toontown can be lifesavers.

I think Toontown is going for a slow pace vibe. I don't think it's a downgrade to what was there before, just different. I'm excited to check it out, and try the food. Also, I like villains land, but it seems like a designer's nightmare. How can they put them together when they are all from different backgrounds? Queen of Hearts Castle, next to Maleficent, next to Yzma in the Emperor's Temple? It's mix match so it's interesting to see how they pull that off.

My first Disney job was attractions at Toon Town. I went into it disappointed, but after 7 years all over the parks, my favorite memories were there. The opportunities of making magical memories I hold close to my heart, especially the Jolly Trolly. I about had a tear in my eye to see the Trolly barn reduced to stroller parking. When people ask me what I loved about working for disney, the stories of the Trolley is the first thing i share. I get the removal though, the Trolley(s) had a long death. Loosing the second car for both, one getting cannibalized for the other, then just becoming a photo op. Now having empty tracks that trip people, get stroller and ev carts stuck... that's just a lawyer nightmare.

There was no way they were going to put the trolley back in, that was just a kid with a head injury waiting to happen. And the ball pit was never coming back, even before covid ball pits were breeding pits for germs. So I don't consider those a part of the trade, so I think that tips the balance way more towards it being better now, especially as a place for small kids to be able to stretch their legs.

Enjoyed Disneyland when there was no fastpass/ genie+ system. Every line was 30 min or less. There was still virtual queue for ROTR. Even it was less than 30 min every day. Like the idea of virtual queues for the most popular rides.

I think the new toontown is more toddler friendly requiring less parental effort when in there. Also the wishing tree being a real live tree it's gotta be a shout out to the one story about the real walt's wishing tree. I'm sure I can't keep my story straight but isn't there one about Walton insisting on a tree being left on the original site before Disneyland was built?

I disagree that it is a bait and switch, all of the things that you listed were dilapidated and not really used properly, so really we gave up a lot of broken things for things that actually work or can be used. Toon town has gone from a ghost town to a living town. Cheers brickey

Gotta disagree with you on the Bait and Switch. You'd have a point if the things like Chip and Dale's Tree House or the Trolley were functioning attractions. But they really weren't. So it's a bit like if you renovated an old home that had a non-functioning dumbwaiter and turned that into closet space instead. One could complain that they gave up a dumbwaiter for a closet, but they didn't really lose anything if the dumbwaiter never worked in the first place. That said, I fully agree that the dreaming tree ought to have been something they built. It should look as big and fantastical as everything else in the land.

I think toontown before was pretty outdated, and I wouldn’t really consider the attractions that were in place before the remodel were up to current standards. I think that Disney envisioned a lot more crowds in this area and so by necessity they needed to open up the space.

Another Monday and another news wrap-up & catch up with Disney news around the parks. 🎉 I couldn’t agree more about raising the price of Genie & making it more like Universal Express Pass. Yes, folks would grumble, but it would be an actual value added purchase for those who chose to get it AND lines would be more efficient for ALL guests. Enough with “lightning lanes” that are anything but “lightning”. You’ll love Epcot without the barges.✨ I’m super stoked to see Indy working properly, Magic Happens and to check out Toon Town in April.

The things I associated with Toontown are missing; I vaguely remember a large dungbell pinned to the floor that guests could pick up and if you grabbed it by the middle it would stretch a wee bit. I watched a tour of the park and that appeared to be missing. As a child I enjoyed climbing up Chip's Tree, that's gone too. Not all the changes are bad, I like the concept of the wishing tree but ...this park isn't cartoony enough for me. It lacks the quirky charm I once remembered this park having. My family member chimed in when we watched the park tour, they should've took inspiration from Roger Rabbit's Toon Town; I'm unsure if it's a rights thing but that would be neat to see the cartoony singing tree etc. To me that's a far better concept then what we currently have. The toddler areas aren't bad but I feel they need to have more shady places.

People were calling all the original EPCOT announcements ECPOT 2.0. I think we already had EPCOT 2.0. When they added OG Test Track, Mission Space, changed Seas to Nemo, all the other changes for the millennium celebration, adding characters to all the World Showcase rides etc. that was EPCOT 2.0. Now they are kind of just resetting certain things back to the way they were with a modern look. I agree the entrance is now better, but they for the most part just put it back to what it was, all the other new changes (aside from guardians) are either not happening (mission space?) or being severely downgraded. I'm sure the Moana (which I will only experience more than once if it ends up being a walking shortcut) thing got some cuts too.

I think it was a big mistake. The reality is kids want to be more entertained now they were on mobile devices at a very young age and the reality is it wasn’t going forward it was staying stagnant with the new paint. I went to it this weekend and I was not impressed by really any of it. It’s a great thought in theory for low attendance, but not for moderate or high attendance. It’s a nightmare and really, let’s touch everything we live in a different world now it’s just not ideal.

Even though Magic Kingdom isn't my preferred place, it has by far the most number of rides of the WDW parks and almost double the attendance of the other three. Epic is the least likely to affect MK. Most people going to Disney at all will go to MK. Animal Kingdom's the one most likely to get skipped when Epic opens.
