The year was 1982 and a 20 year old Pete Weber was at a Pro-Am tournament and in his last game lost to a 12 year old kid. He started calling all the kids f@@king brats by the 6th frame. By the end every other word he said was F@@k. Another pro grabbed him and took him outside to calm him down and then he came back and shook the kids hand, by the way the kid was 6 inches taller also. That 12 year old kid was me. So yes I am 1-0 vs Pete Weber.

You go back to when multiple bowlers complained about Belmonte's water bottle, when you watch the matches, you can literally see him trying to time what he's doing. The tour went through a period where everyone cheered the whole time during the finals. I don't know why they got away from that. You wouldn't have this absurd silence, that a small noise like that could throw you off.

@Manatee Power yes Douchemonty clearly was timing his squeezing of the water bottle. Those particular bottles also continue to pop on their own. The PBA should have stepped in and prohibited that type of bottle at the first complaint.

Honestly look at the 2nd time it happened bc I really couldn’t tell from the first he took a sip from the bottle before he had his ball in his hand and put it down before he set up to throw. Unless there’s another angle I’ve not seen it didn’t seem that bad. Again I don’t follow PBA that much so I don’t know his reputation or anything just pointing out the way it looked for me.

@@heartfanjim01 Well, they did, and now it is not an issue anymore. In retrospect, considering Belmo's reputation for integrity, and the toxic reactionary culture of bowling is that all of the Belmo complaints were just a result of a bitter clique upset at a foreign two hander in the PBA.

When I was much younger Sean Rash part teaching clinic thing I paid to participate in. It was said that he was supposed to interact and teach the bowlers hands on. He was very rude, and when anyone tried to talk to him he ignored, or was very snotty to them. It was the most humiliating experience of my life, and biggest scam I've ever part taken in. Sean Rash is a POS, and a menace to bowling itself.

I remember Marshall Holman kicking a foul light off to the side after a bad shot, and that light & buzzer stayed on. It was a made-for-TV doubles tournament, and I remember Tommy Hudson was on the other team, and he sat down next to Holman to try to calm him down.

For sure he called him out and now we can rewatch it, and be reminded about the bottle bitch, The way we drinks out of his bottle sets it down and picks it back up at 5:05 you can clearly tell he does it deliberately. Now these guys should be able to tune sounds out but unsportsmanship does get annoying

@@fredw8490 from what I remember, there was the one bottle crack which distracted Rash and it looked accidental, but the second crack was on purpose and you could see Jason smiling and laughing like he was joking around. Could just be how it looked to me

@@fredw8490 It was a combination of both... At this time Storm and Brunswick had a tense rivalry at the time, and I think Belmo was indeed messin wit them and joking around, especially the 2nd time.. And this was a team event where they all got paid anyway, so nothing big was at stake anyway. Belmo has already spoken on this alot, and said, the reason for the water bottles, was that you couldnt show label's on TV so he was forced to reuse the same, unlabled water-bottle over and over.. And as you know, with reused water bottles, they become very crinkly and softer the more they are used.. So I do think some of his crackling of the battle was unintentional.

@@fredw8490 well bro, say all you want about 2 small incidents of crinkling a bottle, none of that matters, cuz even if you give those 2 matches losses to Belmo, He is the greatest bowler to ever live and would still have the most majors ever. You know, people try to destroy peoples characters over mistakes they have made in the past like they are perfect human beings.. Belmo isnt some heinous monster that did terrible things. He crinkled a bottle... Who cares... He never used a plastic bottle again after the Rash incident, so he learned from his mistakes and never did this again. There hasnt been an incident like this with Belmo in like almost a decade now.. Give him that at least...

Nothing wrong with Ernie being happy about it. No, he didn't cause Randy's miss, but he beat him. If Randy wanted to beat Ernie, he should not have been in a position to lose it on a tap. We bowl 10 frames, not 1. Weber was a great bowler--perhaps even greater than his dad. But he was the biggest clown ever on the PBA Tour. He was toxic. His dad was my favorite bowler ever, and I think Pete did a lot to tarnish Dick's reputation.

The pba was fighting for ratings and it was being broadcast on ESPN during the holiday weekend, with a legendary announcer. Pete Weber absolutely made all of that up to psych himself up and create buzz for the dying PBA and it worked.

I've met Pete Weber a handful of times since I've worked in bowling centers that host PBA tournaments/trade shows. From my experience he's not the friendliest person in the world. Even while he's not bowling. 🤣 Absolutely not a fan of him.

What happened? The game has been dying a slow death for decades... fewer tour events, smaller prize funds, and an ever diminishing audience. Back when bowling was one of only 2 or 3 things for Joe Average to do on a Saturday night, it was huge... but that just ain't the case anymore. There are currently 1/10th the number of sanctioned league bowlers that there were 30 years ago. It is what it is...

Bowling is fun when you're part of the competition, but it's just not as entertaining from a spectator perspective compared to basketball, baseball, football (🏈 & ⚽), hockey, tennis, cricket, skateboarding, UFC, etc. Image is also a huge factor. Kids see the above sports as cool. They wanna be like Lebron, Ronaldo, Fernando Tatis Jr, Marshawn Lynch, Nyjah Huston, etc. But professional bowlers, snooker players, darts players, etc. just look like some random dad or uncle.

Dick wasn’t cocky. Neither was Earl. In my opinion, Marshall was a failure. Yes, he was great, and had 20 something pba titles, but he should have had a lot more.

@@playdiscgolf1546 Ed Bourdase was the original Bad Boy. He just wasn't as talented as Holman, but he was a mean SOB on the lanes. How he kept it in check for PBA events is surprising. Outside of those events, he would rain terror.

I feel like it wasn't the fan the in the first Randy clip that he was upset with, but the announcer he was pointing at and upset with. He was pointing in an entirely different direction off where he wouldn't even have been able to see anyone move. Also, you could see him react as soon as the announcement was being made, shaking his head and waving his hand in that same direction before he threw the last ball. I could be wrong, but at least that's how it appeared to me.

At 2:56 You can clearly hear someone whistling or making some sort of sound right before randy threw it. I rewatched multiple times and when I watched it live I thought maybe it was his foot work in his approach.

I was a AJBC registered bowler in the early 1980s. I still remember playing against Pete Weber Sr handicap match while he wasn't on the map yet. I do NOT miss Junior's arrival.

I met Marshall Holman after he was retired from bowling.Had a great conversation with him.A real nice guy.Unlike his tempestuous career.But he was a great bowler.

Watching these outbursts remind me of why I stepped away from bowling. It wasn’t fun anymore and I can’t even go out with my wife and son to bowl because I take it so seriously they don’t like bowling with me. I don’t blame them lol the struggle is real.

I am also very competitive, but when I start to struggle I hold my temper and tell myself it's only a game and is supposed to be fun for everyone. Throwing tantrums, shouting obscenities, and blaming poor shots on everything and everyone other than yourself doesn't make it fun for bowlers around you. That being said, it's difficult NOT to get angry when the pinsetter machinery malfunctions and it scratches or damages a new or favorite ball!

@@grprather for me I just struggle to keep my anger in when I can't bowl over my average, because I KNOW I can do it. Because I have many times, but about the bad breaks and overall annoyances I can get pretty heated about those.

Oh man, ain't _that_ the truth... this is *exactly* my reason that I stepped away from bowling too. Not to make a novel out of this, but I found myself distancing further and further away from league because of my overcompetitiveness. Poor little juvenile ol' me couldn't handle shots that I thought were "deserving" of a strike, when all I did was just hoof 'em down the lane and hope to make all them 10 white, red-ringed bastards turn into woodchips. Yelled out, swore like a sailor, kicking the ball return, hitting the seats, smashing my bowling bag in the parking lot... you name it. Blamed it on everything but myself. The sport is just no longer fun to me anymore. Now I just watch it.

I honestly don't blame Randy at the 2005 TOC one bit. That last shot against Duke forced him to give up his PBA tour card and he lost his exemption. At 2:56, it sounds like either someone whistled or someone moved their feet against the floor.

Had to bop in and check this out. Used to watch bowling on wide world of sports in the mid 70's. Also fond memories of bowling with him on Sunday mornings at Del Rio Lanes. The vids are a much later era by and large.

I always tell people to not fret the splits or non-strikes...its great practice. Just this past Friday and the one before, I bowled a 287 and 286. I bowl Strikes all 10 frames, then on the 2nd shot of the 10th frame Ill do a split (6 and a 7) and of course pick it up. But at that point I've botched my chance at a 300. Im kicking myself while everyone else is telling me how awesome and inspiring the game was lol. So be good at picking up spares before you're worried about making all strikes. You can bowl 8 strikes in a game, but if you leave frames open in between, its useless and still is a pretty low score 😅

The whole silence thing is so absurd, its not professional bowling obviously but there are tons of very competitive leagues all over the country with extremely good bowlers who are able to consistently score well in very noisy centers

Kindof just shows what babys sean rash and pete weber are. In almost every other sport dealing with the crowd is part of the sport. Expecting a crowd of people to stand perfectly still for you is peak narcisism.

So people don't get kicked when acting out watching golf or other high concentration sports where even a momentary loss of concentration can lose the game for you? It's common courtesy in bowling to quietly wait for them to throw and then applaud or congratulate them on a good throw or sympathize with a bad one.

Pederson.....what a man baby. That last ball he missed his mark, and that lane was finishing weak. He had to probably shoot what, 40 games during the week just to get to that last frame? It's chaos during the qualifiers, the place is packed with many other bowlers shooting their matches, nobody is quiet or still. He missed his mark, it wasn't on the fan, period.

Everyone jokes about it but Cocaine was really big in the PBA in the 90s. Bowling 42+ games over the week competitively is exhausting. To see a guy coming out of the bathroom sniffling his hand wasn’t that unusual lol.

@@michaelsmith8453 Same here. But some folks are just uber-competitive, and to bowl at the highest level you have to be. I'm good friends with a former Tour member (who's now in the PBA HOF) and I wouldn't mistake what they do for a living as not working. He busted his ass on Tour, and like most he drove to every tournament. Only the top third get a paycheck, and the low casher can't even break even with tournament fees, food, lodging, gas, and other expenses. Some of the guys who are the biggest asses on TV are actually pretty cool and down-to-earth guys when not bowling. And some of the guys with the coolest demeanors on tour are big jerks off-screen. Same thing in any sport...

Belmo did a big disservice by not addressing that bottle comment right then and there. He should’ve walked over to Sean and stood there and said to him and the team “I completely apologize I absolutely did not mean to distract you and I’m glad you threw that strike despite my mistake.” and put out his hand.

Was some time after that, Belmonte and Rash faced off in the final of the Australian Masters in Sydney. Lets just say Rash acted like a complete ass to everybody all week and was NOT a popular figure (unlike Mika, Mike Fagan and a host of other pros that came out) with fans or other players alike. The place went nuts when Belmonte beat Rash in the final.

@raymonsummers562: Right you are. I haven't kept up with televised pro bowling in decades but I remember a more gentlemanly atmosphere years ago. It was for prize money then but they didn't act like spoiled brats if something didn't go quite like they wanted. I hate to say it but maybe it's just a reflection of society itself. Sad. On a brighter note, speaking of former greats, how about Bluth, Bordase, Salvino and Carter. These guys competed but still didn't have make jerks of themselves.

Pete Weber is such a class act inside his own head. If Pete were mouthing off to someone, I’d drag him out behind the bowling centre, and teach him what proper sportsmanship means… Weber is probably 5’5” tall and maybe 150 pounds. And with a voice like his, I’d tell him to come back when his balls drop!
