So that also includes these top people at corporations you talk about, how did they escape the trap? Besides, who am I throwing money at? I have been to the same supermarket (the one nearest me) for years and bought the same type of bread (he one I like) despite various ads trying to convince me to go somewhere else and try something different thrown at me every time I watch a wrestling show.

I signed up for a website that I needed for college while using google chrome, and when I checked the 'female' box while making my profile, google took note of it. AtariMaxiToriyama Women do take care of houses more than guys still. At least, where I live they do. At least they are no longer expected to, but it's a matter of whether we are smart enough to marry a man that knows how to do his own laundry/smart enough to teach our sons how to take care of themselves. You have no idea how many guys I know who always had their mother clean everything, even their own rooms, and are completely useless once they leave the nest!

AtariMaxiToriyama I'm around the Seattle area, sorta in the countryside. (That probably explains it haha) Our girls here are empowered just enough that they can freely choose the lifestyle they desire, which is great, but nobody has been teaching them lifestyles outside of what they and their parents grew up with, so it is this strange mix of new and old values that kind of conflict with each other. I like to think I have a good handle on who I am and what I want for myself, but eh, I'm young and will probably make mistakes here and there like everyone else. How is it where you live?
@Selrisitai
@Selrisitai 9 жыл бұрын
Winter X *Great, mournful sigh* What I am saying is true of 90% of women I see: Dyed hair. Too much makeup. Awful fashion sense. Following any and all trends to the exclusion of a single personal touch. The women sleep around with little concern, and in two years I have known-- three women who have had kids outside of wedlock, despite their "boyfriends" being dead-beats, or having minimum wage jobs. What's worse? Every woman has attitude. The kind of women who take one step forward, lift a finger in scolding and pan their heads back and forth like they're about to school you. They're all either obnoxious, goofy or full of attitude; but none with the intelligence to hold an intellectual conversation about anything that doesn't involve a drunken exploit or children. I think a good word to sum up the women here is "dull". All of this, and yet they think being a housewife is practically demeaning, and they have so little concept of how to raise a child that they think they would become "bored" at the house with nothing to do. Raising a child is a 24/7 job, and if you do not know that -- or if you are raising your kid, somehow, in such a way that it is NOT true -- then you have no business having a child. Oh, did I mention that they ALL want children? The only women who like me are at least sixty pounds overweight, even that I'm only fifteen pounds overweight, myself. I don't ask for the thinnest girl, but c'mon! At least be in my weight class. Anyway, I'm just now entering a job wherein I'm making a pretty decent amount of money (if I remain single or only have a girlfriend). Oh yeah, and most of the women are trailer-trash, or just trashy. Many of them look like they've been on drugs for a long time, even though they're only in their early twenties. Even the pretty girl I spot every once in a while is usually "dolled" up with makeup, or slouches (did I mention almost every girl slouches?) or sucks at walking in heels, or dresses like a slob. Or is taken. It's not like I'm seeing the girls and failing to get with them. I'm just not seeing any girls I would consider dating.

Has anyone here brought up the idea that these commercials are the very reason people don't like ads and block/avoid them whenever possible? Put all the agendas and poorly-thought-out-defensive-arguments aside for once because all that stuff is ultimately just a never-ending circle of distraction. A few ads are genuinely funny the first time you see them, (if you're not trying to come up with content for a Cracked video) and so you might chuckle, or ever-so-slightly grin for a moment. But I'm pretty sure no commercial has any actual likeness to reality. Consider the people who come up with them--really think about it. They're not actually busy trying to push an agenda, at the very least not consciously, because their main focus is getting your money. They're trying to find some way to get people to nod along with the commercial and at least subconsciously think "yes, I should buy/do this thing because it aligns with things I like or believe". These are people who are desperate to advance in their given field, but also pretty arrogant because they give their audience zero credit. They are the ultimate of cynics (right behind insurance folks and anyone working in the judicial system) and hold everyone in contempt. Every single commercial and advertisement is insulting in some way. The good ones hide it well. But they are targeted toward morons, because for advertisers everyone else in the world is an idiot to be manipulated.

man, youtube comment sections are scary, scary places I wonder what it says about our current society that people insist on arguing about every single thing? I choose to think of it, honestly, as a sign that individual autonomy is growing - people are finding it easier and easier to espouse and express their own personal views - although an argument could be made (and probably will be) for a widespread de-maturization (not a word but I'm using it anyway) of today's internet-using population. Either way, I'll just sit on the sidelines watching and then run away when I get too frustrated. Ah, how I love the pure, unadulterated freedom of the internet~

Being a straight white male IS pretty rough. I'm not allowed to watch Project Runway and everyone assumes I'm a bad dancer. Plus, all those opportunities and fair wages are seriously exhausting. Not to mention the fact that cops only pull me over when I'm actually doing something illegal... Now, if you'll excuse me, I really need to get back to running most of the planet.
@TnT_F0X
@TnT_F0X 6 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention the sign that actually brings up an important subject. Also: 1. The wage gap is a myth, different wages are based off of work hours, training, and education. 2. Opportunities strictly for being straight, white, or male are illegal, but ya know, affirmative action is legal for some reason. 3. Last I checked China and Japan were 2nd and 3rd for the economy, and three years ago Obama was US president, and he was only half white. 'most' of the world is run by Asians, they have a 3:1 number on all other races combined, and produce most of the world's goods, middle eastern countries control most of the world's oil... So unless you mean because the US and European countries buy a lot of stuff, that's like saying you control McDonalds cause they are nothing without consumers. 4. People of all races and sexes get pulled over for 'information picking' I've been stopped by cops for walking at night, then again I glow in the moonlight I'm so pale, it's probably my white privilege, they wanted to make sure I was ok!

I never take anything made by dove seriously. All their feminist feel good about yourself bullshit gets really annoying. And that "like a girl" ad gets to me the most. I mean it's just so freaking biased. I highly doubt that everyone they filmed acted like that. There must have been at least some manipulation involved. I mean if someone told me to pretend to fight like a girl I would definitely stop and ask them what they meant. I am a girl so I just don't ever even consider that stereotype of girls being lame and weak at fighting because it's so obviously untrue. I find it hard to believe that none of their subjects questioned this and just automatically went for the stereotype. It's just so unrealistic.

You know what the shitty part about being a white male is? That no matter how shitty your life is or how low you are on the totem pole, people treat you like you've got some wonderful perfect life full of advantages. Like the white guy working near minimum wage flipping burgers has some great leg up on the woman who's a Senior Director of Marketing or some crap because he's the white guy and she's the woman. Because so many OTHER white guys who aren't him and don't know him from Adam have so much power and wealth. I think next time I'm at the supermarket and see one of the homeless white guys with a sign on a piece of cardboard saying "HOMELESS POOR PLEASE HELP", I'll just say "Hey buddy, it aint so bad. @ge2719 9 жыл бұрын
DriscolDevil there have been cases of even knowing its a placebo still has a beneficial effect from going through the motions of using something. Showing someone falling for a placibo isnt an insult. Also, picking not overweight and not disfigured people may well be intentional but a placebo will be less beneficial to those people who would be more likely to hace much deeper psychological issues about their appearance that a placebo wont negate. If you go looking for things to be offended by in anything, you will find things. Well done
@ge2719
@ge2719 9 жыл бұрын
DriscolDevil I never said she knew it was a placebo I said placebos can work even if the person knows they are a placebo to make my point that 'falling' for a placebo isnt an insult. So you are trying to say its a stereotype, in what way? the being emotional? are you trying to say no women would react that way when told they felt more confident in themself when their appearance didnt change? Most would feel emotion from that experience. Would you rather they did the advert and have the women say 'what the fuck ever, I dont care'? And so can no advert show a woman crying, because you think its a 'stereotype'? If you start using that word for things people actualy do then you've made it lose all meaning
@ge2719
@ge2719 9 жыл бұрын
You want me to understand what the heck you are talking about then maybe you should explain your rational behind the things you say. What exactly makes you think the women In the ad had no idea what a placebo effect is? How exactly is it supposed to be a compliment? The ad didnt show if they knew what the word placebo means, it showed them that they can feel more confident without changing their appearance. A company saying you dont need their products to feel confident...Yet you manage to complain about it?
@Frogasmol
@Frogasmol 9 жыл бұрын
Graeme Evans Don't you see the contradiction? You stated yourself "A company saying you don't need their products (...)". If you swallow that, your more gullible than the women portrayed in the ad. Dove ads are nothing but hypocritical bullshit hidden under some PSA front about self-confidence. They just want to appeal to women that are disgusted by typical beauty products, while they (Dove) are nothing but a branch of the company they pretend to criticize. THIS is why they take women for idiots, and THIS is why I am disgusted. Unilever doesn't give a shit about women's self-esteem, they just wanna sell soap.
@stumbling
@stumbling 8 жыл бұрын
Since I apparently have no fucking life, here goes… Beer: Yeah, okay, these adverts are dumb. This is not why I'm here. Oh, wait, "Man, guys have completely lost their fucking minds, haven't they?" No. These are advertisements made by advertising companies, not magic windows into the collective male psyche. Dove: The placebo effect is a well documented phenomenon and "falling for it" (in some cases people actually recover faster from illness just from the illusion of placebo medicine helping; the power of positive thinking, eh?) doesn't make you dumb. "… women's problems are all in their heads?", when their problem is body dysmorphia, yes, yes it is in their heads. Computers (for her [sic]) - Buying shoes, dancing, going on dates and getting married are all things that many women do. Targeting their ads at the 100 or so female particle physicists in the country might not lead to a huge spike in sales. Plus, it's a fucking tickle-me-PC designed for simple people and folks who already have a computer but want an expensive toy to sit on the couch with. What do you expect her to be doing with it? Calibrating sensitive lab equipment? Maybe the UPS guy doesn't think she is the manager (yes, manager, who the fuck refers to them as "The Boss" aside from some tool trying to establish their own nickname) because she is just standing there behind the counter waiting like a part-time barista. SSD: Yes I too am shocked at the fact that the housewife who barely uses a computer doesn't know what an SSD drive is and the other two do. Housewives are notorious for their tech knowledge, systems analysts from around the world travel thousands of miles to consult the wisdom of the American housewife. All three characters are stupid and fucking weird looking. NEXT. Feminist Bullshit: Does it matter what the adverts are for? Apparently this is just a platform for feminist propaganda. I personally don't give a shit about advertising but you're being a massive hypocrite by first complaining about women being, "made to think they're crazy", or "given a placebo" as normal people would call it; yet when men are depicted as bumbling retards you choose to go off on an unrelated rant about how privileged men are and hold up a picture of a few dozen portraits of white men who have been dead for centuries. What the fuck does this have to do with anything?

I had friends that I thought of while watching it who always describe themselves in terms that do not reflect what I see. Love this because lovely people need to know that good feminists don't think women are better, they believe in equal rights for all genders.

It's easy. Do your ads in a way, that the majority of the people can relate to. It's like stand-up comedy.

As Neil Postman pointed out in Amusing Ourselves to Death, “The television commercial has oriented business away from making products of value and toward making consumers feel valuable, which means that the business of business has now become pseudo-therapy. The consumer is a patient assured by psycho-dramas.”

I actually enjoyed the perspective. Interesting what gets us to switch from observer to consumer. Our common need to feel powerful and not be perceived as weak is sobering. Apparently, not wanting to be gullible often makes us suckers.

The Subaru commercials drive me nuts. They act like everyone (especially your children) are inept and need their car to think for them😂😂

Well it makes sense, men see their wives as buzzkills and women like to think their husbands are incompetent. Advertisers exploit that - AND IT WORKS

Cheedillow You've hit the nail on the head there. Advertising works on a simple setup: 1) You have a problem. No really, you do. 2) There is a solution to that problem. 3) We have that solution. 4) You should buy it from us so you don't look at stupid as everyone else who hasn't bought it. You'll be in an elite club - the-thing-we're-selling-to-you club! So: 1) You're wife is a buzzkill. 2) We have a solution to that problem. 3) It's called beer. 4) You should buy our beer. Then you'll be in the cool-guys-who-drink-our-beer club. 1) Your toilet needs cleaning and your husband won't do it. Because he's a sexist moronic pig. No really, he'd never do any cleaning if you asked him to equally divide the chores because you're both working 40 hours a week. And why bother asking - he'd be useless at it anyway. 2) we have a solution to that problem. 3) It's called toilet wipes/bleach/a grenade. 4) You should buy it. Then you'll have less work to do and you'll make your stupid, sexist, worthless, useless husband look even more useless and worthless when you show him just how easily you cleaned the toilet after he spent countless hours trying to work out how the toilet seat works. 1) Your life is boring. 2) We have a solution to that. 3) It's called discount vouchers. 4) You should sign up to our website, then you too can get your legs waxed, try sushi, parachute from an aeroplane and get a fantastic discount on your wedding venue. Or the TL;DR version: Buy our stuff and feel superior to everyone else.

Okay, after legitimately watching that video carefully; I really have to ask how realistic this all is? Please, when answering; keep in mind that I am an 18 year old senior in high school, preparing to major in Psychology when I go to college this coming August.. So yeah; I would love this channel to be completely, 100% blunt, positive yet realistic as well. Thank you ahead and keep uploading. Love the comedy part of the videos. They make it all very entertaining and fun to watch!
