When it comes to triple-doubles, Russell Westbrook is probably the first name that comes to mind. Throughout NBA History, some of the most improbable triple-doubles were put up by big men. Steals and blocks were not an official stat until the 1973-74 season, while guys like Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell could have had way more triple-doubles for their careers.

Hakeem because he would damn near have a quadruple double while also getting a shit load of steals. Also it's more impressive when a center drops over 10 assist and I'm sure he had a crazy FG percentage as well. Hakeem is underappreciated when the goat center conversation comes up, or even when it comes to top 3-5 players of all time. Had he had a better supporting cast, I think he would've had a better argument for GOAT over MJ. He never had another top 10-15 player on his team, even in the championship year. Clyde was way passed his prime.

Nah, hakeem had a quadruple double, meaning he can exclude his points as one of the categories and still have a triple double with blocks, rebounds and assists. But if you are talking about a true triple double with only 3 categories, then yea draymond is the only one

In Chamberlain times, they didn't count the blocks. Most probably Chamberlain and Bill Russell had done a few quadruple doubles in those years...

Tim Duncan should have been there 21 points 20 rebounds 10 assist 8 blocks (arguably 10 cause 2 of them were not listed in the stats) And most importantly he did that on a closeout game in the NBA Finals

@@felixmartinez9673 there's actually a big stat sheet with over 100 games where blocks were reliably recorded for Wilt. His average over those is 8.8 blocks. There's enough unaccounted for triple doubles in that list to move him from 78 total to over 100. And that's a fraction of the games he played in. Russel has a similar stat sheet, fewer games, but his average is also over 8.

Larry Bird was having one hell of a game against the Utah Jazz on February 18, 1985. After three quarters, the Boston Celtics were up 90-66 and Bird already had a triple-double with 30 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. With the Celtics holding a comfortable lead, Larry Legend sat out the entire fourth quarter, even though he was one steal short of a quadruple-double. After the game, Bird was asked if he wanted to play and try to get that 10th steal. Bird said, “What for? I already did enough damage to them.” 'Nuff said.

i think if we factor in eras, harden's new year's eve triple double might be the greatest offensive performance of all time. 53 points, 16 rebounds, 17 assists. each category is an insane amount to get for a player at any position, and he did it all in one night

Not particularly. It's not just about eras but also who guarded him, his direct competition that night. None of the guards on the Nicks were remarkable and Anthony was on the downward trend. Other players have had bigger nights against similar or stiff competition. Chamberlain plaid against the Lakers in the 61 to 62 season and they had similar journeymen at their bit men positions. Plenty big enough, just not skilled enough to hang with him. Chamberlain dropped 78 points and grabbed over 40 rebounds. And then in a game against hall of fame 7-footer Walt Bellamy where Bellamy had over 30 points and over 20 rebounds, Chamberlain put up 73 points and grabbed 36 rebounds. Those are just two of the fifteen 60 point games he had in that season alone and those are the low hanging fruits. Then there's the question of efficiency. Harden shoots well, but Chamberlain shot 18 for 18 from the field while getting 42 points, 30 rebounds, and 10 assists. And he also has a 16 of 16 game, a 15 for 15 game, a 14 for 14 game, etc in that season. And this is all just Chamberlain. There are other games from other players that I would say are more impressive than Harden's triple double.
