Oscar Robertson used to be regularly in the conversation for greatest player of all-time. As years go by, he barely gets mentioned when people talk about the best players ever. It's ridiculous. In 10 seasons with Cincinnati, he averaged 29.3 ppg, 10.3 Assists and 8.5 rebounds. He won a title as an older (but still good) player with the Bucks playing alongside a young Kareem. He was a great all around player. People seem to judge him based on a few clips of him as an older player shooting a midrange jumper. He was much better than that. He is easily one of the top players of all-time.

Yeah, but everyone who played in the league when there were 8-15 teams is going to get overlooked. They simply didn't have to face the same level of competition, so their accomplishments are less impressive. Just like how people putting up records today are getting snubbed because of the lack of defense in the league. Different times, different levels of accomplishment.

If blocks and steals were being tracked back in the 60s, then wilt and Bill would be on the top of this list. Those two averaged nearly 10 blocks a game with the occasional 10 steals. Wilt even has a quintuple double game, as well as his famous single triple game that anyone else has to do

Seeing Wilt start hunting down the Big O, then getting injured in '69, is pretty amazing. If they'd counted blocks back then, every one of his 78 triple-doubles would be a quadruple-double - except any possible quintuple-doubles, seeing as how they weren't counting steals, neither.

Bill Russell and Wilt kind of get shafted here as blocks weren’t officially measured until the 73-74 season when both were out of the league. Either of them getting 10 blocks in a game was not uncommon, so they would easily have way more triple doubles than what they’re officially credited with.

But back then you didn't had the rule, that you can only stand three seconds in the zone. So for example imagine a Rudy Gobert or even Tacko Fall standing the whole under the rim. This is also supported by the fact, that back then the Players literally shot no threes and where just running towards the rim. So please stop comparing different ages with each other an jumping into conclusions.

If blocks were counted towards this stat back when Wilt played, he would lead this list by hundreds of games. Remember this guy blocked, literally, thousands of shots. Over 20 a game was common for him and 10 is pretty close to his average before 1970. So think about how many quadruple doubles he had when you look at his counted triple doubles. Also Russell fits into this category due to his 10+ blocks a game being normal.

Least respectable stat thanks to Russ. He had an entire organization dedicated to make him triple double for years. All his teammates let him get the easy d rebounds, got the ball all the time, made attempts whenever he wants. Kidd's 107 triple doubles way more respectable, so many times I have seen him finishing the game like 9-17-15 stats, he just didn't care. Anyone on this list would have way more triple doubles if they were stat padders like Westbrick.
@NBATheory2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Russ has more games with 9 rebounds or assists in NBA history. And his teams let him get the rebounds because it helps him push the ball in transition. Hence why his teams are always at the top of the league in pace. He has the 2nd most offensive rebounds in history or a PG behind Kidd in 500 less games. Let that hate go man.
@barisk68552 жыл бұрын
@@NBATheory I heard this argument so many times, apparently only Russ of all PGs figured out that ball transition formula. Not buying it. It's not hate, I just don't like to watch selfish players turning the game into their personal showcase. It's a team sport. He is the only player I know boxing out his teammates, once I even saw he was yelling to Adams in the middle of a game for not letting him to grab the easy rebound (btw how about Adams' stats?). I have seen him sometimes didn't take a single shot and forced unnecessary assits during a whole quarter because he was one assist away from his triple double. Like many said his triple doubles are not organic, it's not the result of a good team play, it's one individual chasing his own glory. That's why when he averaged triple double numbers 4 season in 5 years, his teams didn't even make the playoffs or lost in 1st round at best. Congrats on most inefficient triple doubles in history. There is a reason when you google "stat padder" it looks like you entered Russ's insta page, dude's face is everywhere. Even though he is a talented player he got this title by stat padding and we all know it.
